Games / Re: Rogue Trooper review thread......

So after all that he survives anyway and the game is left open for a sequel

I'd call that Rennie learning from GFD's mistakes!  I still fantasise about a Rogue 'epilogue' where we see the TG emerging from the ruins of his Arctic base, and watching Rogue's receding Millicom-bound shuttle before staring down at the remains of his convincing robot duplicate.  You could (just about) allow Horst to remain in continuity, and then have Rogue return to a ruined Millicom, sabotaged by a shadowy figure...

Sadly Funt, those are also the *last* two Top 10 collections (that are worth reading...), and while I would heartily recommend 'Smax' and 'The '49ers', they just aren't quite as good. And DO NOT touch the recent non- Moore 'Beyond the Farthest Precinct' book.  It tastes of vomit.

Prog / Re: Prog 1484 - The Hitmen & Her.....

Great Prog, seemed to take ages to read.

Dredd was well written and nicely drawn, highlighting a softer Justice Dept approach to its older judges, but ultimately this was just a pleasant retread of several earlier strips.  Still, no harm in that, and Grennie's Dreddvoice grows ever more convincing - it's only the obligatory mention of the wider Family Dredd that identifies the author.

Lobster was a dense little gem, loved the symbol gag.

Low Life.  Nice art.  Story just starting, we'll see.  I'd prefer it if 'undercover' Judge Nixon didn't keep telling everybody her name.

ABCs.  Sigh, I know I shouldn't, but I really love this childishly wonderful story.  Robots beating each other up is such a perfect vehicle for great Flinty art!  The only thing is, I do wish that the new Mars stories hadn't been blighted by the 'backup bodies' rubbish - Lara didn't build you that body, Mongrol you nerk, that's a brand new one (and why it too was built out of battlefield scrap is a bit of a mystery).  How can we feel the Warriors are ever in jeopardy when they can just pop into a spare?  And no, I'm not overthinking - overthinking would be pointing out that everyone other than Steelhorn has a 'younger' version of themself running around out there somewhere...  Try to pay attention, Pat.

The '86ers. As someone mentioned earlier on, I was a bit non-plussed by this story until this ep prompted me to sit down and re-read it as a whole - it's actually a well realised little cast/setting with an intriguing plot.  Oddly, the only dud moment is Rogue's brief appearance  Could this be the first really successful Rogueverse story since Cinnebar?  PJ is more than holding his end up on the art, although it would have been fascinating to see Richardson follow it all the way through - give it the consistent look that a multiple-character story needs.

Oh, and I quite liked the cover - striking, I thought.

" I defy any man to not feel at least a bit weepy at the last scene."

Only the last scene?!?  The whole damn movie!  When poor Huey gets run over... >SOB

Interesting to hear there's that level of flexibility - I'd assumed a more controlling environment (on the Lucasfilm rather than DH side).

Sunber is certainly the stand-out character in 'Empire', itself the best SW book by far, so you made a good choice there.  'Empire' had cleverly built up a mildly interesting set of Rebel supporting characters, allowing a bit of proxy peril for the obviously invulnerable main characters, and Tank (actually mentioned in the movie! gasp!) was a good next step.

Liked the Micheal Sheard/Admiral Ozzel cameo, BTW!

Well now, I did enjoy that.  After the superb Tank Sunber tales in 'Empire', I was dreading a change of creative team, and while I still prefer Fabbri's incredibly movie-accurate style Badeau does a wildly enthusistic and insanely detailed job here.  I do have  aporblem with the odd perspective and slightly washed-out colouring, but it's still very visually impressive stuff  (Interestingly, while Fabbri gave Luke the wrong lightsabre handle, Badeau hangs Vader's hilt upside down... persian flaws?).

Rob gives Sunber a much richer internal monologues
than Hartley, but this gels well with his changing mindset.  What Rob brings to the story is dramatic (cinematic?) scale - we get a truly massive land battle, and an audacious crash sequence.  This neatly balances the personal narrative of Tank's relationship with Luke and Biggs.

If you're still around Rob, I'd be interested to hear how the writing guidelines for this type of title works. How free are you to tell your own stories, and how tied into a programme?

Anyhow, Tank is the most interesting character to emerge from SW licensing in an age, so keep it up.

Games / Re: Urban Dead - Necronauts..........

Hello folks, just to let you know that Luiz Cannibal (Zombie - forgot to check his spigot) is presently sacking the Tomson Mall in Lockettside (glee!), while Lux Roth Chop (Consumer) is having a nice lie down in a cemetery in West Becktown while his APs reach a sensible level (Zombie Squad revive-request site highly recommended if you're in the area - takes about an hour!).

Aquaboppette (Bou-style Fireperson) is holed up in St. Francis Hospital in the boring deadend of Miltown, and Brinna (Scout) is alternately snoozing and searching in a warehouse in Darvall Heights.  The survivors hope to head over Peppardville way to link up with their fellow 'Nauts once they get their post-apocalyptic angst under control.

Well I haven't seen Hostel and don't really plan to (although the soft porn alluded to does sound faintly intriguing...), but I have been working with lots of Romanians (and indeed Poles and Lithuanians etc. etc.) over the past 5 years and I can report the shocking truth:  some of them are decent hard-working bastards, some of them are good crack, some of them are hopelessly dry and boring, and some of them are utter wankers.  And yes, some bad things happen in their country, unlike... uh, well, actually, very much like here.  Amazing, I know - who'd have thought it?.

Aw that is a shame about Gary Gygax.  His game and its successors made me a lot of lifelong friends, and kept me from losing my marbles on many a washed-out family holiday.  There's a lot to be said for a game with no winners or losers.

Yup, there's nothing like another cold-blooded murder to make up for all that cold-blooded murder.  Couldn't give a flying fig about that partcular shithead, but either needless killing is wrong or it ain't.  And morality aside, how many thousands of innocents are going to die as a result.

Someone should call Elton John:
