Film & TV / Who droids? What droids?
01 July, 2005, 04:36:19 PM
Tooth tales tend to have the same mix of humour, action, characterisation and downright weirdness that'd make for a good Who yarn, so which script droids do you think would churn out the best Doctor Who episodes?

Started thinking about this earlier and the list of droids just keeps growing; I'd love to see pretty much all the droids' respective takes on the Doctor.

So, your thoughts?

On the whole, one of the things about prequels is that you pretty much know what's going to happen, and the only uncertainty is in exactly how it all unfolds.

('course, the same could be said of most films/books/comics: you know the good guy's gonna win, you're just not sure how.  But anyway.)

And because the established continuity can't completely disregarded there's a tight limit on the number of surprises and plot twists that can be incorporated.  So, there's not much chance of Episode 3 bringing us any revelations as stunning as, say, Darth Vader being Luke's dad.

But wait.  What if they (whisper it) killed off Anakin?  Nobody would be expecting that.  The continuity would have to be thought out, but it's possible: after all, we've only really got Obi-wan's word that Vader used to be Anakin, and he could easily be wrong.  The guy wears a mask for three films and, when it finally comes off, the bloke underneath doesn't really look much like Anakin.  Could be anybody.

Anyway, this's just something that occurred to me on the bus.  If this actually comes to pass in the film I reserve the right to jump up and down and say "told you so!" a lot.

General / Crossovers, timelines et al
17 March, 2003, 06:22:54 PM
Bit of a two-parter, this.  Firstly, which--if any--of the strips in 2000AD are considered to be part of the same timeline?  I know there have been Dredd/Strontium Dog and Dredd/Rogue Trooper crossovers, so that'd indicate they're in the same continuity, but what about the others?  I can picture Sin/Dex's world becoming Dante's after a few hundred years, f'rinstance.

Now the second part.  Given that some of the strips are linked, doesn't that open up the possibility for more crossovers?  For example, if the Judges leave a couple of Alien eggs lying around after Incubus ties up, does that mean the Stronts could end up dealing with them later?  (Personally I'd like to see Rogue vs Aliens-- highly engineered killing machine against highly evolved killing machine)
