Wasn't it squished when the original Statue of Judgement fell over after being blown up by Grice in Inferno?

And -- again -- the majority of the violence is against non-humans, which is much more acceptable to the Powers That Be. I remain slightly astounded at what Clone Wars gets away with on the grounds that the troopers are Clones ...

Wrapping them up in armour makes them look more like robots, too, so I guess that's part of it.

Yes, but is Judge Death magic?

Oh.

Yes.

Superman is super-fast, so Death probably couldn't physically touch him for long enough to do the old heart-squeezing thing.

Heat vision would deal with Death's physical form, and one of those whirlwinds that Superman and the Flash like to do could probably contain Death's spirit long enough to get some sort of containment set up.

Talking of ressurections having a permanent impact on characters, an interesting thought just occured. Imagine if Johhny was ressurected, but somehow in the process the mutated parts of his DNA were erased. He'd still be the same person with the same history, memories, background, personality, etc. but in effect, no longer a mutant... Now THAT would stir up one sucker of a hornet's nest.

That could make a great story, and I'd be interested in seeing it. However, I think getting enough fans to accept a resurrection story would be hard enough - making Alpha a norm in the process might be an even harder sell.

Wagner doesn't even think of Strontium Dog and Dredd as the same continuity:

QuoteContinuity: no, don't see Dredd and Stront as the same.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/John-Wagner/22334044612?ref=search&sid=1093241813.3829091810..1

So does this mean that Judgement Day never happened?

Where do I stand?

I'll tell you where I stand.

I stand four-square for the timeline, setting development and the rigid application of continuity - and Grud help any separate-worlders who say different.

The fans, they know here I stand. They need to know how things fit together - I provide the answers. They disagree and I disagree back with reasoned argument, and explain how it works.

Simplicity? Sure, I'm all for simplicity, but not at the expense of a richer setting.

That's why I like to see that picture of Dredd and Alpha there, towering over other comic heroes. Kind of a symbol.

Writing
Top Dog had a price, John.

The price is a shared setting.

Langfords okay, but he's no Kim Newman.

Langford does books, Newman does movies. I say get 'em both.

OTOH, I'm more inclined to trust Wagner with a retcon* than just about any other writer in comics, so I'm happy to wait and see.

This is a tough one for me. As I said in another post, I'd be seriously pissed off if one of my favourite stories is retconned (and I realise that Judgement on Gotham is a favourite of some other people...). At the same time, it's Wagner we're talking about here.

I remember a few years ago Logan posted something in passing about Wagner saying he'd not read any of the post-Alpha Strontium Dogs. If he did go on to read it, then that might have implications. Or not.

As it stands, as far as I'm concerned Alpha died as depicted, and the Ennis/Hogan stories moved the setting forward. However, Ennis manged to briefly bring back Alpha, albeit in a rather clumsy way. For me, this raises the possibility that Alpha can come back. His death was far from natural; it was a magical ritual and self-sacrifice in another dimension. I don't think the Gronk's gun would truly be enough to put Alpha's soul to rest, despite what Alpha hoped.

If people want Alpha back, and not just an Alpha from the past, then I'd say use the stories we have and go from there, not simply retcon The Final Solution. Folk might not like seeing characters raised from the dead (and believe me I sympathise), but it happened with Dredd and it happened with the Mean Machine, and it worked.

So, I'm very keen to see what Wagner's up to, but I'm more than a little nervous about it.

Christmas with the Dredds. Now that is a title worth seeing.

I think it happened in a Prog a couple of Christmases ago.

GOD!  The art on Inferno is like a repeated kick in the knackers - that such beauty and skill (and invention in many cases, all those different convict "uniforms" and the story.... well, it's plain awful isn't it?  That it has such great art just makes it all the more annoying.

What's the matter, Grice? Feeling run down?

Wow that is fantastic.

Having said that I'd still prefer to see his pen and ink work the work he was doing particularly when coloured in such wondefully suited subdued tones by Gary Caldwell is just superb. Just read 'Death Becomes Him' and his work is frankly exceptional.

I agree with both those points. And just to say them again, that picture is simply gorgeous, but I remain a fan of inked lines.

If Tharg has any sense at all, he'll be onto Ronald begging to use that pic as cover for something.

There you go, If Mark Harrison says his panel layouts are dynamic (there's that word again) then surely that's scientific PROOF.

What would be great is if someone can find the actual post I'm thinking of. I tried finding when it when this thread first began, but had no luck.

Since he's getting older, he has to die eventually.

Nah. He died once, and was brought back to life by magic. I reckon he's actually immortal. Frankly, it would explain a lot.

Dredd- Oooh, he's pretty cold in this episode isn't he? Even by his standards.

I've not got this issue yet, but based on the last episode I think I can guess how the story is likely to pan out.

I can imagine how Dredd might think about this. The Cursed Earth is a tough place, but it's survivable. It's possible even that some folks could actually thrive there if given the opportunity, but there is simply too much lawless scum grinding them down. Maybe the best thing Dredd could do is not change MC1, but help the decent people of the Cursed Earth survive and thrive.
