And now for my comments...

Cover: Ace, Brill and Skill!

Judge Dredd: Origins. So far so good! It's a shame that they couldn't take a Killdozer, but you can't have everything. When I read that Fargo might be alive, I thought that he might have been cryogenically preserved, but that wouldn't explain the contaminants. Suffice to say, I'm looking forward to next week. BTW, why have they cast Logan as a man with a bad hip?

Malone: I don't know, there is a bit of circumstantial evidence that points to Finny. The red nose, the cigarette etc, but Malone, looks nothing like him! And at the end of Sin/Dex they were both dead! Even with Rocky's arrival, I can't add things up.

Stone Island: And one by one they die. Am I ever going to find out what's going on?

Banzai Battalion: Now they're introducing the concepts of Weapons of mass destruction and home made explosives. And now the Captain's sacrificing his own troops in his insane war. I said it before and I'll say it again, this won't end well.

Dante: Mark my words, no good will come from creating an army of warriors using the Kraken as a blueprint. I don't think the slaughter is over yet! The Kraken hates Dante so much that I believe that when he wakes up, he's not going to be very happy to see him!

All in all, a very good prog, just with my reservations over Banzai Battalion, and Stone Island.

And now for my comments:

Dredd: Well, I've been patiently waiting for Origins to start and it has certainly had a good run up to it. Lots of questions still to be answered. From what I have seen, it looks to be a wonderful classic in the making. The trailer page was brilliant! Bolland's art has been missing for far too long, and it was a great touch to commemerate Tom in this manner! Can't wait till next week.

Malone: Nice dark artwork mirroring the storyline. I'm still having trouble getting to grips with this story. Perhaps you need to read the whole series just to understand these things...

Nikolai Dante: I was never happy with Dante having to do the bidding of that sea witch, and am happier that this is finally out in the open. I have the impression that the "Dante the Pirate" phase is drawing to a end, just as the war story arc drew to an end. The sudden appearance of the Tsar (missing from current stories) was a nice addition.

Stone Island: Like Malone, I'm finding it difficult to get into this story. There's obviously a lot going on here that we're not yet supposed to know. Nothing like this ever happened in Porridge!

Banzai Battalion: I keep checking to see if it is really Wagner who is writing this story. This storyline is such a departure from previous outings from the Battalion, I'm finding it harder and harder to read this. Every episode it seems like they are going down a darker and darker path. It was bad enough when they started taking their replacements apart, but to attack Rosie! I could see things were starting to change when the two characters from the previous story had no part to play in this story. The piper and the war correspondant are characters that are not suited for such a dark tale. Now with the introduction of the robot ratter, I don't see any kind of ending to this story I'm going to like. I haven't been this dissapointed with how a story has turned since Return to Verdus (and I'm afraid that's saying something!)

I'd like to end on a optimistic note, so I'll just say that I'm really looking forward to Origins and leave it at that!

I seem to be in a minority here but I would like to voice my doubts over the latest episode of Banzai Battallion. I do not believe that this story fits in well with the spirit of the previous stories. The characters are acting out of character to the patterns established in previous stories. The humans seem ungratefull for what the Battallion have done for them in the past and the Battallion themselves have starting engaging in war atrocities. It is not what I would have liked to read, as I was fond of this story.

I came accross this and thought it was very funny. Apologies if it has already been seen here before.

And now my comments if I may...

Judge Dredd: A very good start to a story so far. Was I the only person who thought TARDIS when I first saw the Justice Dept Sanctuary? :)
The fight with the beast was great aand teh last couple of frames sets up next week's episode nicely.

The Red Seas: I'm enjoying this latest adventure with Jack Dancer and co! I'm begining to think that his dino allies should be wearing red shirts, because they seem to be getting killed off one by one.

The V.C.s: This was a good ending to this part of the story. I don't think a lot of the readers actually believed that it was Gaek'rr that was killed in last week's episode but it was still sad to hear that Keeg was dead. Hoff could have gone either way, but if he is destined to be Smith mk II, then this was a good mission to get him on the way. Let the soldiers get on with their soldiering and leave the politicians to talk.

London's Falling: It's all about belief. That's why Shuck wanted people to be afraid of the unknown things that lurk in the darkness. They gave him power. I was on to Jackie's mistake a few episodes ago. When Tommy Rawhead warned him to watch his kids, he wasn't saying that he was going to hurt them, but Shuck was. But Jackie got the wrong end of the stick. I have to applaud the ending though. Very apt with the message of this week's episode! It's all to do with belief.

Droid Life: Fun as always.

So all in all, a very good prog. Very enjoyable.

That's one brilliant painting! I loved Meltdown Man when it first came out! And I see that Massimo is still keeping with his habit of including himself in his pictures! It's terrible to hear of his failing health, but it's heartening to see that his talent is still with us.

And my comments if I may...

Dredd: A nice twist what with it being Orlock's hand. I confess that as soon as it was identified, I leapt to the conclusion that the Sov's were going to clone Orlock from his DNA. But as Dredd said, Mega City One sent the body to New Kremlin after his execution, so there would not be the need to go to such lengths to get a missing hand. In retrospect, a handprint identification was the logical conclusion to reach.

Kipling: This week's conclusion was far better for me than last week's episode, which was marred by the psuedo-Christian imagery. There were echoes of Terry Prachett's Small Gods in Kipling's explanation that all you need to be a god is for someone to believe in you! And the way his sidekick killed the Aztec Spider Queen was quite inventive.

The Red Seas: Another good episode, if slightly lacking in action. There were funny moments in this episode, the dinosaurs singing drinking songs along with the pirates! And The dogs seem to know more than they are letting on. Well, we know that their ship is going to crash land next prog, so we'll just have to see what happens from there.

The V.C.s: Out of the V.C.s, I didn't think that Ryx and Kali would be the next to go. But I suppose if it was obvious what was going to happen, no-one would read them. I am reminded of the ending sequence of the original V.C.s, when one by one the team met their ends. I'm not saying that is what's happening here, but there are similarities.

London Falling: Just as last week, I feel that I have to plead ignorance on behalf of those Terrans living outside the Greater London Area. My knowledge of English Folklore is sketchy at best, and because of this, I cannot get into this story. Which is a shame. Perhaps a page to get us up to speed on this might be a good idea. Or perhaps you could emulate Pat Mills, who used to quote early Christian documents in his earlier Slaine stories?

All in all, a very good prog with lots all ages and species!
