Prog / Re: Prog 1492: Ghoul Britannia!......

And if I may, my comments...

Droid Life: A laugh and a sexual innuendo!

Dredd: Comming along nicely. I eagerly await next week's episode.

Harry Kipling (Deceased): The God Killer is back again. This story has the potential of being very good, but it also could go very wrong. They really don't want to go down the Christian route. I noticed a modified Ichthus in this week's episode.

The V.C.s: I never believed it would be that easy to get Gaek'rr to safety. Trust the Polity to get others to do their dirty work for them.

The Red Seas: I'm very much enjoying this story arc! A little quieter after last weeks battle, but good nonetheless.

London Falling: I'm finding this a little hard to get into, what with the moral ambivilance, and the references to London folklore that haven't been properly explained to us out-of-towners.

All in all, I enjoyed this prog. I did get the sampler as well. Oh, the joys of subscription! :)

I very much enjoyed this week's conclusion! The Beast was very impressive! The story went along at a cracking pace. There was shades of Aliens when Rose and co were in the vents - very scary! And on the whole I was pleased with how everything resolved itself. The Doctor freely admits that his view of the universe is necessarily the definitive one (There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy...) There were guesses to what The Beast was but it wasn't resolved, and maybe that was for the best.

BTW: Am I misremembering but didn't the Doctor's seventh incarnation face another Devil (or at least the Brigadier did)?

And if I may, my comments on this week's prog...

Dredd: A nice ending for this story. With a couple of loose ends that leave scope to be be picked up on in future stories. A possible new career for Guthrie? Another criminal with a face change masquerading as a citizen? The Manta Tank project?

The V.C.s: Situation normal - All Fouled Up! Completely surrounded on some swamp of a planet with no back-up and the enemy closing in. Just another day for the V.C.s! There is quite a parallel developing between Hoff and the early Steve Smith. But of course, there's no guarantee that Hoff will shape up like Smith did.

Droid Life: A nice diversion as ever: Grud save us from the Economists and the Accountants!

Out of this week's prog, these are the stand-outs for me. I have never got into the Lowlife's featuring Aimee Nixon as she is a very morally ambiguous character. Dredd might have his detractors (which amazingly seem to include the Mighty One himself this week), but I believe that he does what he does for the good of the city and its citizens. He is tough, but fair. Nixon does not have that in her. And as such, I find it hard to empathise with her.
But she is a babe-in-arms if you consider the moral context of Lobster Random. He has absolutely no redeeming features about him or the universe he inhabits at all. I don't think I can put forth as good a case against him a Mr Kressler did this week, so I will leave it at that.

All in all, a prog worth reading. I am definately looking forward to the new stories coming our way in the coming weeks. It looks as though there is a lot for everyone. Who can ask for anything more?

I have to go against the flow here and go for the Undercity. Depsite the recent Undercity developments, which have included a Vampire society and the incursion of the Aliens (from the film of the same name.) I still believe that if I were a Judge nearing the end of my useful life, the Undercity would be the place for me. Why? Because a Judge must bring the Law to the lawless until death! It has to be said that the Cursed Earth has become much too civilised of late. What with circuit Judges and the Auxillaries and the Cursed Earth Rangers, it's just not as dangerous as it once was, especially after the recent Mutant army cull led by Dredd.
So for me, I have to go to the Undercity. I'd rather see my retirement out fighting Troggies, Werewolves, vampires, rogue robots, escaped criminals and The Creep, than sun myself on the Cursed Earth soft option!

I have to say that this has been by far the best episode yet in this current series. As a fan who started watching in the Tom Baker years, I would of course been in favour of this reunion episode, but there was the nagging doubt that this could have turned out very badly indeed. There HAD to be a story to back up this reunion, or it would have looked too artificial, only there because it was possible to have been done. Thankfully, when I watched this, this was not the impression I got. Alright, there were some emotions involved, but for Pete's sake, Sarah Jane was an important part of the Doctor's travels for a long time. She was there when he regenerated, and she stayed with him long into the Baker years. And importantly, unlike most of his companions, she didn't decide to leave him.
It was good that she had this episode to get some closure, and it was great that K9 was there and played an important role in the story!
And while I agree that the defeating of the aliens was a bit of a cop-out, I didn't think that the whole alien threat was an afterthought to the story. It presented the Doctor with a choice - the change the Universe to suit himself, or to continue working to make the one we have better. Of course, no matter how tempting it might have been to take the easy option, he couldn't. He wouldn't have been the Doctor if he had.
This episode did give me cause to wonder how Rose is finally going to be written out of the series, when her time finally comes. Somehow, I don't see her and Mickey walking off into the sunset together...

I didn't like this episode because of the attitudes shown by the Doctor and Rose and by the introduction of Torchwood.
The Doctor and Rose did not take the life threatening situation seriously enough, even when people were getting torn apart by the space werewolf, they seemed more impressed by the wolf itself.
Queen Victoria establishes Torchwood to battle the Doctor if he ever returned to Britain. So why have they done nothing to stop him up to now? And why were they happy to have him situated with U.N.I.T. all throughout the Seventies? There are too many problems with continuity because of this development.
I prefered last week's episode.

Talking backwards is one of the signs of of the Devil. Desist at once if you value your souls!

Why do you think he gets his minions to put his commands on heavy metal music backwards?

Sir Edmund Hillary died 10/1/08 aged 88.

Prime Minister Helen Clark said: "The legendary mountaineer, adventurer, and philanthropist is the best-known New Zealander ever to have lived.

"But most of all he was a quintessential Kiwi."

Sir Edmund conquered the world's highest mountain on May 29 1953.

After returning from the summit, the famously matter-of-fact climber greeted a fellow expedition member with the words: "Well, George, we've knocked the bastard off."

"He was an heroic figure who not only 'knocked off' Everest but lived a life of determination, humility, and generosity," Ms Clark said.

British adventurer and environmentalist Pen Hadow said Sir Edmund's death "closes one of the great chapters of planetary exploration".

"He was physically and metaphorically at the pinnacle of high adventure," said the Dartmoor-based Arctic and Antarctic explorer.

Because of Sir Edmund's conquest of Everest "millions of people will know him and will and will be affected in some way by his passing".

He said the climber turned his achievement to the benefit of the Sherpa community in which Mount Everest stands.

Sir Edmund climbed 11 different peaks of over 20,000ft before tackling Everest.

One of the few famous people I have seen in real life.
