Prog / Re: Prog 1975 - top cop for the chop?

I understand what you are saying but consider this, although Chaos Day might not have destroyed the same percentage of Judges as citizens, at the end of the pestilence there were still still about 35 million citizens left alive in Mega City One. Thanks to immigration from the Cursed Earth and other cities, that number has risen to over 165 million. Presumably the attraction being that overcrowding in their existing cities, or quality of life being seen as better in Mega City One, many have flocked to the city, vastly raising its dwindled population. And although there is evidence that other mega cities have allowed their judges to transfer (Joyce, Pax, ect) There can be no doubt that the current level of judges are not equivalent to the numbers of citizens.
Robot Judges have not been considered yet and many cadets were slaughtered during Chaos Day by Democracy fanatics. Even accelerated clone tanks cannot produce adult clones yet. Genetically engineered troops and robot soldiers are not specially programmed to dispense justice so realistically they could only be used for riot control.
In defence of the city from foreign aggression, however, I do agree with you. A lot of city defences are automated and Mega City One could probably mount a sustainable defence against most aggressors. Short of another pre-emptive nuclear assault in the vein of the Apocalypse War, it would seem unlikely that an enemy force would be capable of invasion of the city. And what would be the point of conquering a radioactive city with no people?

I can't believe that this hasn't been posted up already - or am I missing something? Anyway...

Cover: Pretty cool cover, but for flip's sake - pull up your trousers! What's the matter with you?

Dredd: An explosive shoot out and frontier justice meted out while its political talk back in the Meg.

3riller: Possibly better as a Tharg's Terror Tales actually. Still don't know what is going on here.

Survival Geeks: A getting to know you episode. I was a bit disturbed by the two stoners going at it on the couch - I mean to paraphrase Red Dwarf, "You pieces of filth.  How could you commit an act of carnal knowledge?
What could possibly  have made you contemplate making love to yourself?"

Tainted: The terror and insanity grows in this episode. I get a feeling of futility from the colours and the artwork as the very weather seems to understand that the end of humanity is coming.

Aquila: A little more explanation for this current story is revealed in a flashback. That guy at the end is a flippin pyscho!

So a good prog again with the least entertaining for me being the 3riller.

Dredd: Good opening. I especially liked the evocative scenery of the Cursed Earth in this story.

3riller: Story was a little flat to start with, lots of talking. Things didn't really get going till the last page.

Survival Geeks: The first thing I thought was Ghostbusters reboot! We'll just see how this plays out.

Tainted: I enjoyed the last run of tales from Deathworld. The humans here looked pretty messed up already.

Aquilla: Certainly a departure in art style for this story but a nice introduction to the story anyway.

All in all a good prog with Dredd being my favourite.

Dredd: I'm not crazy about the artwork in this story. The misshapen heads are really jarring. Hershey looks like Patrick Troughton. The story by and large was entertaining enough apart from Dredd's internal monologue. It was just too out of character. In all the years I've read Dredd he has never contemplated suicide, even in jest. Just too unbelievable. Also, it is well known that Dredd has a problem with non family members liking him. Otto Sump and Walter the Wobot never had their regard for Dredd returned. In the early years Dredd did have friends but they all ended up getting killed; it's probably that that's given him his attitude.

The Order: The story ends well, but its been two books now and I still have trouble knowing what's going on. I'm all for a mysterious story that has it premise explained over time, but it's just confusing now.

ABC Warriors: Great art, great story, great ending. Looking forward to seeing more. A lot of the time when a magazine revisits and retcons a beloved story I have a problem with it, but the use of a time delay patch which prevented Hammerstein from remembering this until now was a good to explain this new information. I still don't get the Hell Something angle though.

Future shock: The weakest link in this issue in my opinion but not terrible. Simplistic art and an overcomplicated story crammed into four pages.

Kingdom: Great cliff hanger, but I hate to think what has happened to Leezee if the humans were happy to weaponized the tick things.

I enjoyed this issue overall, as I have most of the recent run of stories in 2000AD. It certainly scores over the Meg at the moment, which is in dire straits. I'm not enjoying it much. I know things are supposed to be edgier over there, but outside of Dredd and Demarco the rest is drek. I don't need to see people's dangly bits to further my enjoyment of a story. I'm not a fan of Norwegian Death Metal of 1960s counter culture, so that's a good part of the magazine that's just not for me. I thought it was supposed to be the Judge Dredd Megazine after all...

I couldn't agree more with your opinion that the Doctor's speech was the best thing in the series so far. You really got the feeling that the Doctor was genuinely hurting when he was recalling his time as the War Doctor.

AILING DOC SHAKE-UP
Plans to scrap series for one-off specials
Exclusive by Nigel Pauley

WORRIED BBC chiefs are considering scrapping next year's series of Doctor Who and screening feature length specials instead.

The legendary sci-fi drama - starring Peter Capaldi as the Time Lord and Jenna Coleman as his companion Clara Oswald - is the Beeb's biggest selling programme overseas, earning an estimated £60million a year.
But the cult show has hit a crisis period. Viewing figures have ploughed to under 4 million.
Coleman is leaving
and Capaldi may do the same to spend more time with his family. Now BBC executives are discussing a range of ways to revive their cash cow.
Last week, they announced their spin-off series, Class, aimed at teenagers, to try to find a new army of Doctor Who fans.
Sources say they are also weighing up the drastic step of axeing the 12 episode series run planned for 2016. Instead, they would film a couple of Sherlock-style feature length specials plus a Christmas episode.
A BBC source admitted:
"Doctor's Who's decline is very worrying and needs to be addressed. At this stage all options are being considered
"Everyone accepts that drastic action may be needed."
Another plan under consideration is rebooting Doctor Who with a new cast in 2017. Game of Thrones and Lady Chatterley star Richard Madden tops the wish list - although BBC1 Controller Charlotte Moore has not ruled out introducing a female Doctor Who,
A BBC spokesman said: "We are only three weeks into this year's run, It is far too early to discuss next year's commission."

I just read that the BBC is considering not doing a full series of Dr Who next series but just do a bunch of specials like David Tennant's last year in the role. Why? because they don't think enough people are watching it!
I think if the BBC don't have to the commitment to stand behind its programmes just for the sake of a dip in its ratings, they should sell the rights to another company that does. Dr Who used to be a mainstay of the BBC and it has been treated terribly in the past just because some higher up in the company doesn't see a good thing when it is right in front of them (Michael Grade I'm looking at you!). With all the revenue Dr Who videos and merchandise makes the BBC, it deserves better!

Colonel Miles Quaritch stands on the Command deck and impassively surveys the alien landscape below him. He turns as he hears the main doors open and close and turns to see his adjutant come towards him.

"Has there been any word from our operative on the surface?" he asks his Lieutenant.

"None Sir, and it looks like we won't be getting any," the nervous Lieutenant replies.

"What the Hell do you mean?" exclaimed Quaritch. The Lieutenant takes a step back as other soldiers and scientists in the Command Deck look up from their duties, startled by the outburst.

"It seems our operative has become...sympathetic to the plight of the Na'vi" the Lieutenant explains, "He has spent so much time in the company of the natives that he has decided our plans for them are wrong."

The Colonel does not take this news well and becomes incandescent with rage.

"He thinks what?! Does that blue bastard KNOW how much resources it took to engineering his body? Of how difficult it even is to make a form that can breathe that alien atmosphere? And now he dares to desert us and make his own decisions?"

The Lieutenant is visibly shaking now, "I'm afraid so sir, he's gone Rogue!"

I would like to think that Boss Cage is not a very good representation of Judge Dredd with his use of electro-torture, but I can think of two instances where Dredd used this very method of torture. One was on an Asian holy man, the other was a war veteran amputee.
