Late entry to market (in non-Japanese/US markets at least) + massive price tag + no real innovation (thats not nicked from a competitor anyway) = disaster waiting to happen

There was? Cor.

My spotting career lasted a grand total of 3 hours and 2 minutes.  Back to "Ooh look its a plane.  A red one!" :)

Got my subs copy this morning.

One weird thing.  On the 20th page or so there is a transporter that looked vaguely familiar (the plane with rotor wings)- I would post a scanned copy but my bloody scanner is borked.
Anyway I tracked the distant memory back to some photos of an airshow I went to this summer and sure enough its the spitting image of this: http://www.aeronautics.ru/img003/v-22-osprey-01.jpg

Considering that this thing has only been public news since mid-80s and Shako was in 1977 progs, sod Arthur C Clarke and his bloody satellites, 2000ad really did predict the future.

Off Topic / Re: Judge Blair strikes again........

"isn't Blair introducing a bill which will allow the PM to bypass parliament completely, under the guise of 'doing away with red tape'"

Yup - the "Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill" (snappy title eh).  Very very scary law that Blair is trying to force through.  More details at: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/bbc_parliament/4802704.stm

Mikey: "Spoiled ballots make no fuckin difference either to these fuckers."
I don't agree with this at all.  Not turning out to vote just reduces turnout and allows the government to say that you were happy with the status quo or the opposition to rather feebly mew on about increasing voter apathy.  At the end of the day people don't usually ascribe a non-vote to any frustration at the government.  The winner does not factor it into their so-called mandate (i.e. they will quote that x% of the voting electorate asked for them, not y% of the whole electorate).  A poilt ballot on the other hand is a very definite signal that you have not voted for any of the candidates.  It is counted as a "vote" and so your non-vote is counted when governments start bleating on about mandates.

Its your choice really but if you don't vote you are in effect voting for all parties.  If you spoil your ballot you in fact voting for none.

General / How do you store you old progs?
30 August, 2006, 05:52:38 AM
I generally keep mine in those printer paper boxes and lob them under the spare bed (good thing too as I think they're the only thing that's keeping it up at the moment).

Anyway, I find that when I'm reading past progs and put them back in they get all mixed up (generally after panically putting them back after being screamed at by the gf to "sort out the *@%$ing mess out in he spare room".  This proves to be a bit of a bummer when you're reading some story and thinking "i only half remember this - I want to read the rest of it now" and find that the next/previous prog is broken over half a dozen other boxes.

Anyway, do other people suffer from this problem, and if not how do they store them?

General / Is this the face of Dredd?
27 August, 2006, 05:09:31 AM
Reading some old progs, I noticed that one of them mentioned that 2000adonline had summaries of old stories.  I sort of half remembered a story called The Dead (or something similar) drawn by Belardinelli.  While looking for this story I came across the list of Chief Judges at http://www.2000adonline.com/?zone=dredd&page=chiefjudges with a piccie of Fargo's face at the top. Now, if Dredd is a clone of Fargo, surely he will be exactly the same i.e. he will have the same face?  Or have I got something wrong.

Han Solo or Chewwie are sitting in place of Judas Iscariot.  Now that is heresy.

Lots of the above plus:

When Nikolai Dante "kills" Konstantin in Tsar Wars with a "Heroes be damned".

Or the end of America 2 with the zoom on Cadet Beeny - still gets the hairs on the back of my neck going.

For Dredd stories in general:
the lead up to Necropolis where Kraken takes the lethal injection from the executioner and injects himself

For the old man himself:
On the final stand-off with Neros when (can't remember the exact words but something like) Neros says "I suppose you want to know why I did it" and Dredd replies "Not really".

As several of the above have already said - "The Dead".

Also, not sure if it was underrated or not, but Leviathan was easily the best one-off in recent years in my opinion (but then I'm a sucker for D'Israeli's art)

Final one is B.L.A.I.R.1.  I loved this series, and don't understand why some people slated it so much.

*reads thread*

Bloody hell - that is amazing?

Once you've got the characters sorted - how long do you think it would take to do a 30min film?  I'd pay for that.

All time great - Mike McMahon.

Current great - Colin MacNeil.  I'm generally a fan but the work he did on America was absolutely spot on.

I think its "Fargo" that flashes up on the badge at the end.
