Article on io9 about mysterious recorded sounds under the sea.
http://io9.com/5883622/meet-the-bloop-the-mysterious-sound-from-the-bottom-of-the-pacific-ocean?tag=io9-backgrounder

About the most mysterious sound, named Bloop, the article finishes by saying:
QuoteIt just so happens that the origin of the Bloop noise is located in the same general part of the southern Pacific Ocean as the location H.P. Lovecraft gave in his 1928 short story The Call of Cthulhu for the underwater, extra-dimensional city of R'lyeh.

A worthy project and I wish them all the best with it.

I'm a bit of a lefty myself and think the Occupy movement is great. Even if it goes nowhere I respect them for making a stand. However, upon reading the synopsis of the comic, there's a large part of me that thinks that this could possible be a leeeeetle bit boring.

Obviously it all depends on the content, which hopefully will be amazing considering the contributors, and how the stories are told. Can't help think that some 'straight' stories could be dull. I've got time for political stuff like V for Vendetta or Maus, but I've no real interest in any straight-laced tree hugging true-life tales of protestor power. It turns me off.

This could just be my preference for comics as fiction and escapism.

Nice article on Down the Tubes about comic sales and readership.

I imagine there must be a lot of girl readers who would appreciate romantic comics. Manga for girls seems to be popular still, lots of strange pre-teen flirting and coming of age/relationship stories. A UK made version of all this gumpf must surely be a winner.

Quotefistfight between a robot and a bull
Sounds awesome.

Watched The Human Centipede 2 last night. I liked how they integrated the previous movie. Nice touch. The rest of the film is just depraved.

It's a decent film and the lead character is well played considering he doesn't speak for the entire movie. But...my god is this film a wrong un. They've gone for it, all guns blazing, to make the most horrible film they could possibly make and for that I applaud them because they sucedeed. It's truly disgusting. Do yourself a favour, don't watch it.

Must have glazed over during that bit.

I agree with the comments that it's better to have more post, more frequently, than one large post per month.

My own real experience is with Bearmageddon. I know they update twice a week but I don't visit exactly on update days. I just pop in a couple of times a month and read what's new.

I was never an Apple fan and don't own an iPhone. Really the iPad is just a big iPhone.

Quoteother than having a larger screen.
Probably the biggest benefit. Personally I detest browsing on mobiles, screen way to small, tablets are a much nicer size. That's why they are the future. A wonderful medium between laptops, which radiate your bollocks off when sitting on the sofa, and phones which are to small to read.

When i first wanted to transfer some .cbz files to my iPad I was flabbergasted at what a ball ache it was. Download an app to read them, connect to iTunes on PC, sync the 2 devices. 'I just want to plug in a USB' I thought. The iPad is so nice and usable that you kinda forgive it for its failings and there are other ways to transfer files that work nicely eg Dropbox.

There are USB ones out there but you can buy USB adaptors to connect to your iPad.

Uzumaki Unique story of a town haunted by spirals.

The Drifting Classroom Lord of the Flies on acid.

Death Note Noted above but worth another mention as it's good.

Creative Common / Re: Setting Up A Webcomic Advice...

Nice site Doombot. 4000 views a month is awesome. I'm sure some aren't real, as you said, but the fact you get repeat viewers is an impressive achievement.

If I had to recommend a platform Locust I'd say use Wordpress, and the ComicPress template, as used by http://bearmageddon.com/

You will need to purchase a domain name and you would be best served buying some web hosting as well. This will cost but your gonna have to pay if you want your own site rather than piggybacking on somewhere else. GoDaddy would be good for this and not too expensive? Take a look at the economy plan here http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/wordpress-hosting.aspx?ci=15005

Purchase and basic setup is almost foolproof. If you need more help making this happen let me know.

I nearly snared your art skills in this thread here but you declined due to similar topics. Fair do's. This story is about horrific events having a causal effect on young minds resulting in something even more horrific. It's also an attack on modern life styles, the media and consumerist culture. I want it to be more than just a violent tale, even though the violence is key to the story, and have some real substance, to make people stop and think. It's really hard to write those topics well.

Could be we are trying to write the same story?!  If you ever wanna bounce ideas or talk shit about stuff let me know. I'll show you mine, if you etc... Could be beneficial to both our epic tales.

Nothing wrong with a bit of ranting and I love your call to arms John. I do agree, the desire to make something other than vacuous pap is what comics should be striving to achieve. To create something that makes a real difference has to be far more fulfilling than writing a cool Spidey story that no one has thought of before.

However, I'd say these are the hardest types of stories to achieve and only doable buy a lucky gifted few. To be honest, I did turn off a little at the thought of stories about real life and council estates. I suppose when I'm reading comics I want escapism and not to wallow in the misery that is real life.
