In my Dad's time they had a full film before the main feature! (He was born in the 40s. He is now a rather robust 70 something, bless him.) Or maybe there wasn't a 'main feature' and they just showed two films at a time. Of course not all that many working class people had a TV back then, and i don't think they only showed new releases at the cinema. I think they might have even shown series and the news at the pictures back then.

I remember double features and I'm nearly 50.
When I saw the original Star Wars it was shown with another film but we came in and saw Star Wars first. It was agony having to sit there through another, much duller, movie. All I wanted to do was go out into the sunshine, pretend I was on Tatooine and fight stormtroopers.

Last movie I saw that had an intermission that I recall was The Towering Inferno in the last 70's (on a re-release).
I saw 2001 a Space Odyssey recently and that has a built in intermission but it was basically ignored.

You've got me wondering now - I can only remember getting one intermission at the cinema, but can't remember what film it was (in the mid to late 80s though).

Where's the built-in intermission in 2001?  Obvious point I'd guess would be on the moon, but it's a bit early in the narrative...

Just when we realise that HAL is reading the lips of the crew in the pod, IIRC.

I must say I'm enjoying the R2-D2 build more.
Up to issue 8 on that one.

magnetic screwdriver is your answer - I always had trouble with fiddly screws until I got one of these (or actually until a friend just magnetised a normal one) - pop the screw on the head and insert with the screwdriver

Thankfully they supply a magnetic screwdriver with the second issue and it helps enormously but it's still incredibly fiddly.
Having to really take my time.
Started yesterday and did the first seven issues.

Absolutely brilliant, dark and more than a little sad.
I didn't notice
the pairings of the things either but I rarely do on a first watching.
I'll watch this one again tonight.
We sat down, as a family, including my nearly 13 year old Son and watched The Riddle of the Sphinx, Empty Orchestra and the latest episode and he loved them all.

This thread has gone very quiet.
Just started my build.
My fingers are too fat for these screws.  :-\

Just watched Empty orchestra again.
This series just keeps on getting better and better.
It's by far the best thing on television and the writing is so crisp, clean and truthful that every episode almost makes me want to weep with it's total beauty.

It's so good that it makes me want to punch Shearsmith and Pemberton. Punch them with love. In the face. Hard.

The Bill:
why would he join the consptracy rather than calling the police? He's alrteady loaded, and they've got no leverage on him
Watched this episode again today and my thoughts are;
How do we know that he is loaded? Everyone around the table is basically lying and so could he be. He has his card declined and says 'I've got £250 in that account'. Not exactly a fortune. I think the other four have fallen for his lies and then realise the truth but he knows the scam now and joins them instead after he has paid out loads of money for his divorce.
I could be wrong but it works this way.
She pretended to be ignorant at first, but when she thought that he'd been incapacitated, she began showing off her skills - the clues in the crossword should've tipped her off that her plan was already known to the victim
You are absolutely correct.
However, I would suggest that she is presented with the clues in such a short space of time that it would have been nigh on impossible for her, or any expert, to solve a complicated crossword in such a short space of time (around 15 mins?) But I take your point. Had she been given an hour or two then I agree.
The sphinx:
as she is a crossword expert, why is she so eadilly led clue by clue? She has the grid and the list of cluues, but doesn't twig asphyxiation, myistery guest or pufferfish
Minor nitpicking though - I bloody love this series

I've only watched this once, and then under the influence of alcohol but
she wasn't a crossword expert though was she? Thought that's why she had to have it all explained to here.
I could well be wrong. I usually am.
