You can't discuss BICs without mentioning two things.

1) Chaykin is a genius in putt-downs (to the Shadow ' take off that ****ing scarf")
End every skecth with "be good, set an example"and varoius mentions of porn. Class.

2) The blonde cropped girl with stripes on her face. wow.

Hi PJ

It was good to meet you. I was the guy who got teased for ofeering you a sympathy sketch when the other two were busy sketching.

You did me a nice Dreed & Rico and a Zenith.

I just wanted to add that I think unless you've got a perennial best selling graphic novel on the shelves in Borders, I think charging for sketches is completely necessary to fund your trip.

Cheers mate - and congrats on this week's Dredd tale...

Classifieds / I want to buy a 2000ad binder

Any ever get one?
How did they work - I'm presuming they had a metal looped strip that held each comic in.
Anyone know what 'size' 2000ad they held?

(sorry to clarify these are the ones that held the comic not the traidng cards!)

Cheers.

I bought 1982 and 1983 for a £5 each so I guess there's lots of copies out there. There's no chance of reprints of the photo stories so I might make a book of Doomlord 1 -3 and pad it out with Tower King and House of Daemon.

I'd love to do a dan dare book but as they are all center spreads I guess you'd have to bind them from the top (ie horizontally) and I wonder if you'd lose too much!

Be nice to have all the Ian Kennedy art in one place. Though my fave Dan Dare artist is the 2 episodes by Oli Frey (from Crash spectrum fame)

Anyone else remember the flying shark pursuit?

Books & Comics / Eagle (1982 version) and John Wagner
09 September, 2009, 08:59:07 AM
Hi guys
I've been ploughing through the Eagle comic relaunch from 1982 - 1983.
Wikipedia helps a bit but:

a) Does anyone know much about Dan Dare - did Pat Mills & John Wagner really write it together?
b) Is Alan Hebden an Alan Grant pseudonym - He's credited for writing the Tower King by the fabulous Ortiz which went straight into House of Daemon (again by Ortiz) but this time credited to Alan Grant.
c) Joe Soap - still bizarre - anyone oelse got fond memories of having Joe sat on by a curry eating fat man!

I still love Doomlord the photo stories - there's something great about the mask!
I don;t expect much response as this is a bit niche!

Cheers guys

Sorry for 'watching' for so long.

I think I've now figured out I can login and post on the wii (but anyone who's got one knows that the virtual keyboard is a bind!)

Great site

Sorry I only access this site using my wii which doesn't allow me to leave messsages.
But I've been reading for the past year and a resubscriber to 2000ad since Zombo and Cradlegrave really impressed me.

I'm also a hopeless Zenith fan as you'll see from my old/other post

I had a great time filling my Zenith book with sketches from Boo Cook, Jock, Alan Davis and Dylan teague. Henry Flint and Lee Carter (? Dead Eyes artist) were also very good. Kev O'Neil and Dave Gibbons bashed out the line sketches politely.

The 2000ad stand was really friendly especially the graphic designers (sorry forgot your names) and the panel with Tharg was hilarious. A really good show on a small scale - you got to see pretty much everyone you wanted to if you were prepared to wait 40 mins.

And picked up 2000ad - which is the best its been in years. The current John Smith grime compliments the madness of Mongo nicely and Dredd has an interesting plot point.

Apart from the fact we're all looking older and rounder as readers - it was a great weekend. All the foreigners there were amazed how ambivalent we are about our conventions - they were in awe of being able to meet Kev O'Neil and Alan Davis IN THE SAME DAY!

I'll definitely go but either they are expecting attendance to be hugely down on numbers or this is going to be one packed venue.

My experience of Bristol this year was that it was great but even in that huge train room there were times on the Saturday when the aisles just came to a complete standstill!

You're right though - it might just make it a memorable convention.

I remember the old Glasgow ones mid 90's when (oh the shame) people like John Wagner were practically ignored in favour of the new Vertigo talent. It nice to see proper credit now paid to UK creators. mike mcmahon queue was one of the longest I've seen at B'ham 07.

Jut read that next year's Bristol Expo is taking place just in the Ramada. The huge train station side building is unavailable. So the organisers are personally inviting stands knowing that there will be over-demand.

I'm gutted as I had to miss B'ham. Anyone else got any news on this?
