Say what you want about Sylvester McCoy, at least he was a hell of a lot better than the woeful Colin Baker.

I haven't seen a whole lot of Old Who, but I did watch Remembrance of the Daleks on video starring Colin Baker's Doctor*.

I didn't think the episode was particularly good. And Colin's doctor was given woefully little to do.

I actually rather liked Colin's doctor though.

*Starring Alexei Sayle as a rather annoying DJ character. Oh and him from Keeping up Appearances. Before he kept an appearance on that show. (Boom, boom.)

At last!  Sorry if I am repeating anything but whilst browsing the shelves at Bromley WHS there was a pile of Strips No2 on sale.

Hmm! That's my local! (Well one of them, there's Catford in the other direction, but I don't go there that often.)

I might take a look...

Fair enough! I gladly stand corrected. That certainly makes sense.

It's a hard one as blue often translates as black in comic art, doesn't it? (For ages I though Batman's cloak was blue for example.)

I remember discussing* the uniform on this board and someone stated that since  Carlos Ezquerra tends to paint the uniforms black that's the colour it is meant to be.

However, just the other day I remember reading one of the Case files (I think it was 3) and it featured a story where Dredd got transported into the future and encountered vampire judges who (I believe) were nicknamed 'the blues' by the surviving populace...

Of course the uniform colour could have changed.

I guess either interpretation is valid since I don't think there's a definitive answer in the comic (unless the above counts).

*or maybe I just read the discussion. I think it was me who brought it up but it was a good while back.

I actually liked Shadow of the Vampire a lot. Although it is very strange. (Although that's not an issue for me in this case.)

Then again I've noticed I seem to like films others dislike...

Film & TV / Sleepy Hollow Series - Minor spoilers.
28 July, 2013, 07:16:02 PM
I'm sure someone started a thread about this a short while ago, but I couldn't find it. And ironically I couldn't find the search function either.

So apologies for the repeat.

Anyway, I enjoyed the film Sleepy Hollow a lot. (I know there seem to be a fair few here who dislike Tim Burton films. I'm not one of them, so I guess I'm biassed, but I think this is a good film regardless incorporating
supernatural
horror, creepy whimsical tone and location, comedy and period drama as it does. Oh, and a decent mystery story.) So I was intrigued to learn there was a series being adapted. I had an idea it might be an extension of the original idea, hopefully with twists to differentiate it from the original but a similar period drama setting.

I came across this article today on Bleeding Cool though. It seems they're bringing it to a present day setting with Ichabod Crane waking up after a long sleep Buck Rogers style.

Yeah. Not sure about that at all, although the review seemed fairly positive. I guess I can understand the change of time period when considering budget (I mean they relocated the Connors from the 90s to the noughties in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and I seem to remember the nineties looking pretty similar).

Anyway, we'll see. The themes mentioned could be interesting. I don't really buy that reviewers idea that including religious elements will make it bad, just because it apparently was for Heroes. It's all about how it's done.

The only character that really pops up from "Road" is Lily (in #46-#48). I've no idea if there's a tv show counterpart though as I don't watch it so haven't a clue how faithful they are being to the comics continuity (where this trilogy of prose novels are set).

I haven't read the other prose novels. I didn't realise it was set in the comic continuity. I've read some of that including the governor arc (or most of it). I can't place Lily, but that's not saying much as my memory for names is bad. By the end of the novel, when I see where she ends up, it should be clearer.

The Walking Dead: The Road to Woodbury

A novel set in the series universe. I don't recognise the characters, which isn't too surprising as we are following another group.
I know they turn up in the governor's town so I wonder if they'll turn up later in Series 3. Of course they could be a bunch who come and go in the time period before.
Anyway it's interesting reading about another bunch in that world.

About 18 months ago I received a tax rebate a couple of days before my boiler packed in. The cost of the replacement boiler came to almost the exact amount of my rebate.

Yesterday I received another tax rebate for around £300 and this morning my dishwasher packed up.

Not sure what kind of luck I'm having here  :|.

Your dishwasher packing in is karma's way of telling you dont need a dishwasher.

That, or he should give the poor girl a holiday.

Oh yes, I and I enjoyed the comic as well. (I've yet to read the bagged comic.)

I'm not always keen on Bob Byrne's stuff as I sometimes find it hard to follow. Not an issue with this one though. A nasty enjoyable little tale.

Am I the only one who read the Slaine advert as 30 Years of Laughter??
I read it that way too, then saw the grim expression on Slaine's face and thought, "are you sure?" I suppose if one has a warped (no pun intended) sense of humour. Then I read it again and spotted the hiding 'S'.

So far, I'd say it's worthwhile picking up Charlie. But obviously we've a bit more to go. I'll let you know if I change my opinion when it's finished.
That last episode was ridiculously raunchy, wasn't it?
I finished Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. A very interesting book. While I haven't researched the president or era I get the impression it was very well researched. Not that I believe
there were really vampires involved in the slave trade and civil war (except metaphorically)
but having that blend of reality with the fantasy really sold the story. I almost believe that other stuff could have happened. The cleverly doctored archival photographs helped. Very cleverly written.

On the comics front I picked up volumes 3 and 4 of Sweet Tooth from the library. I gobbled up 3 quickly and I'm now on 4. These comics are such a great read.

My TV keeps switching itself off. I can't just switch it on with the remote either basically having to do the standard main power 'turn it off and on again' routine followed by the standby. I wouldn't mind if it happened once in a while but tonight it's done it every few minutes! So small in the scheme of things but really irritating.

I've been meaning to get a new one for a while (it's a CRT over a decade old. Not that others haven't lasted longer). Maybe I should use this as an excuse to start saving up...
