QuoteOn the positive side, I didn't recognise Anton Yelchin as Reese; sometimes he reminded me so much of Biehn I assumed there was digital trickery involved, but I think he conveyed that all through mannerisms and vocal inflection - y'know, acting.

Oh yes, he was good. My reference to 'dodgy acting' wouldn't include him. Actually most of the acting wasn't bad, but there was something about the scenes between Worthington's character and Blair Williams which fell rather flat to me. Probably the script had more to blame than their actual performance though, to be fair.

somebody told me a while back that there is a deleted scene from Salvation with Schwarzenegger as a soldier of some kind (with a Texas accent) working with Skynet on the whole idea of cyber-fighters for the military. Like this possible plot for the next installment I've just found out about, it sounds terrible to me.

Sergeant Candy

Yeah, it was for Terminator 3 not Salvation. I'm glad that remained on the cutting room floor although I'm glad it as a deleted scene on the DVD as it has a certain daft comedy appeal.

Speaking of the huge production line of Schwarzenegger terminators, one of the (many) thing I liked about the Sarah Connor Chronicles was there getting back to the original idea that a terminator could be pretty much anyone. (Although a large amount of them still seemed to be good looking and muscular.)
Later they even took to replacing specific people. I wasn't sure how I felt about that as that seemed to fit another franchise more, but it makes logical sense in the next step of infiltration.
Part of me would love to step into that parallel universe where they stuck with the original idea of Lance Henrickssen as the Terminator. Much as I like Arnold's version.

SKD, why were you painting swastikas on a mosque? (I didn't read the article, I'll grant you)

I'm not sure how to react to this...

I think he was pulling your leg.

Actually I probably should have waited a while for the thread to vanish to the next page before implementing the above joke...

Who would DO that?

There's stuff in Salvation I dislike.
The inefficient method of termination the T800 employs for example which seemed to amount to a lot of throwing.* I mean he actually wrecked a T600 at one point and didn't make use of the mini gun. Oh and that sacrificial ending rubbed me up the wrong way.
And I found some of the acting a bit dodgy.

Overall, I really liked it though. I quite liked the idea of
Skynet's new tactics with that twist concerning Worthington's character, although it seemed a bit over complicated.
And yeah, Sarah Connor Chronicles is good if rather slow in places. Actually the second series was the first or second blu-ray I bought (the other concerned a certain future lawman you might have heard of. Clue: it didn't star Sylvester Stallone) . I've delayed watching it until I pick up the first series although I saw the original run on the telly. I think I missed a couple of episodes though. Shame it was discontinued.

*To be fair the terminator
in the 80s film does a bit of that too when confronted with Sarah's roommate's boyfriend.
General / Re: Digital v Paper
13 July, 2013, 12:35:41 PM
Up until fairly recent it was digital for individual comics and paper for collections/trades for me. I still think that is the ideal for me (and in the case of collections digital versions often aren't available anyway) . However, when I saw whole bunch of collections of Locke and Key and older Dredd Case Files available digitally at a low price, it swayed me towards digital for that format, at least temporarily. I'll admit price is a major factor for me. (In the case of Locke... being on the Comicsology App the experience was nice. In the case of te Case Files on the Kindle app, workable but not great.)

Incidentally, slightly off topic but I was surprised to find a new Comics Shop open in Bromley recently. Not sure how long they'll last considering I thought these places were actually closing but good on em. I was particularly glad to see they have a whole bunch of those Ultimate Marvel Collection back issues available meaning I won't have to trek to FP for them. Now those are good examples or collections that make good use of the traditional format. Hardbacks for under a tenner? Yes please.

So sorry! Silly me not paying attention.

Concerning weather, yes too hot for me too. I don't mind this heat if there's a breeze, and there was a bit of that today. :-)

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter.

I've been curious about the film for a while, (but which I've yet to see) so when I saw the novel going for a a couple of quid I thought, "yes please". I can't really say how it is having just started it but it seems well written so far. By same chap who wrote Pride, Prejudice and Zombies apparently, Seth Graham Smith. Mind you I haven't read that yet.

Okay my plan didn't quite work as I forgot The Returned finishes at 11.10 (on Ch4 +1).
I missed episodes 3 and 4 cos they were shown during my recent pi$$-poor TV reception period and so I haven't watched tonight's and won't watch the next few episodes because I won't have any idea to what I've missed or what is going on. You'll have to let me know following episode 8 whether a boxset purchase is in order.
I think you must be watching a different channel they've just shown two on the 5/5* channels so far.

Oh and it was placed on the On Demand surface really quickly so I got to see it yesterday after all. As Tips said, it really was good.
I was shocked at how quickly and ruthlessly Rick dealt with that psycho prisoner. Not that I blame him considering the circumstances. You can't be looking over your shoulder all the time when you've got so many people to take care of, or and that character had proven himself a liability twice already. Third times too much. Shonk! Let's face it, the comic book Rick has done harder stuff.
I guess it will be catch up or the BBC2 repeat after all. :)

I confess, I went to a wedding the other day and I didn't iron it.

In my defence I did wear a jacket over it, as well as a tie, so I doubt anyone noticed.

Also I have to dress smart* for my job, but I rarely iron stuff.... Then again I tend to wear a jumper or jacket over the shirt so that covers most of the creases. Mind you there are often creases on the jumper too... but due to the colour it's probably not all that noticeable.

I'm not sure how I'm going to get away with that in the hot weather. It's okay at the moment as we don't get many into college over this period (summer holidays) but soon...

That being said I will iron stuff on occasion. I sort of go through phases. But when I do I tend to leave it to a minimum.

*Or at least semi-smart. I often forgo the tie.

Stephen King's latest novel: Joyland.

Mr. King gets a lot of stick for his latest novels, particularly his endings*. This though, was all round very good in my opinion. Ending inclusive.

If you read it expecting a horror** you'll be disappointed. But then again, contrary to how he is labelled Steve has never just been about the horror. This is very much a nostalgic character story, with a murder mystery and a smattering of the supernatural.

The story is told well, pulls on the heart-strings in places and, I thought the ending was rather good,
with a couple of twists
.

*Not by me, to be fair. I like most of his stuff including his modern stuff but I can see people's point concerning endings.

**That's not to say there aren't bits which are rather horrific.
And there is a ghost or two.
I knew if I looked on the forum that one of the 'Great and the Good' would be clued in as to what had happened, cheers Mardroid. So Channel 5 decided that after one episode to shift it to the back of beyond, It's nice to see they have so much faith in their programming.

Stew.

I've never been called that before, but you're welcome.

The new schedule actually works out okay for me as I'll watch The White Queen*, then The Returned and The Walking dead on the '+1' versions of their respective channels.

But in terms of increasing viewing figures, etc, yeah not a good thing.

*Quite interesting period drama** in a medieval period I'm not that acquainted with, with a touch of the supernatural.
** Do I have girly tastes? Hee, hee.
