And - oh dear - I quite liked American Reaper <assumes defensive huddle and awaits kicking>

While I found the (in my opinion) over-use of splash panels taking up a lot of space in the past, I quite like it too. I particularly like the extra little tales covering back-stories that have occurred in the last couple of Megs.

Argh! Extra 'and' before the smiley. Silly android predictive typing software tries to be too clever.

Something like this is fine for those already familiar with the story and collectors but is your average 16 year old going to drop a ton to have this?
It's not aimed at them though. It's aimed at those who frequent the site, mainly 30 plus guys who grew up reading these stories.

Technically that doesn't include me either (although I'm sure Rebellion would happily take my money, and ;) ) as I'm well in the age bracket but I'm a relative newbie to the prog as I only started reading a few years ago. So I haven't read any Zenith. I'm intrigued and I would like to pickup a collection, but not at that price.

If these 1000 copies all sell well and quickly I reckon paperback collections in our price bracket will be published though as others have said.

Battery life is pretty good on tablets though, and at least it is on my Nexus 7. It'll last the day (more if it's not used heavily) and you can recharge overnight. It'll cover a comic reading session easily. For resolution it's better than the I pad mini too although not up to the larger ipad specs. (With a smaller screen that's not an issue though.)

I get all my individual comics in electronic versions now, relying on the Comixology App for my Dc comics (just three at the moment) and ComicRack for the Prog and Meg CBZ downloads from ClickWheel.

Concerning Valhalla rising:

I had it on until the end. I say 'had it on' because I stopped paying attention after a while and as such am probably not qualified to make this judgement but...

It really wasn't very good. The main problem was it was just so very boring. (Hence my reason for switching off.)

I'll reiiterate, the bleak imagery was interesting, but give me Erik the Viking any day.*

The Returned continues to be rather good and highly intriguing.

*Okay poor comparison since it's a completely different kind of film, but it's fun!

I recent finished Hungry Hearts. Not bad, but
dear me was that a cheerful ending.
I felt it could have been a bit longer and they could have done more with a couple of characters.
I.e. there are two particular characters who were killed off shortly after we meet them and I thought it would have done more for the story to have them hang around a bit longer.
Then again, maybe that would be too predictable?

I'm reading John Lindqvist's short story collection "Let the Old Dreams Die, and other stories" now. I've read three of his novels so I though I'd give this a try. So far very enjoyable and rather weird* stuff.

*Not that this takes from the enjoyment.

I'm watching it at the moment, and was wondering quite what was going on. I saw a bunch of guys chained up and killing each other and...
Yikes. A guy just got disembowelled by a one armed man who just escaped captivity.
It feels rather like I've entered the film part way through, but maybe things will become clearer later.

Lovely bleak scenery.

And from that recent article where Pat Mills spoke of Defoe and The Levelers I could tell he just adored the monarchy.

Just booked a couple of tickets for me and a mate at Imax in Waterloo. Dear me is that place expensive... I could pay under half the price at my local! (To be fair Bromley Cinema isn't in the same league...)

Hungry Hearts by Gary McMahon (One of the Tomes of the Dead book)

I saw this advertised (I think in the Prog or Meg)  and on seeing it in the library I decided to give it a crack.

The cover is amusing in that it plays on the fact this is in part a love story by giving you a Mills and Boone style cover... except the woman is a rotting corpse. All the more amusing in that the story itself is completely different in tone, apart from the gore.

I haven't gotten that far but it's pretty grim, disturbing and kinda nasty. That probably looks like a criticism, but I mean nasty in that 'nasty things happen', but it's rather interesting and compelling. It does something rather different with the Zombie outbreak thing.

Overheard several women talking in work today about the egg throwing incident on BGT, when one of them asked the following.

"Were they cooked?"

Why this was of concern I still can't work out!

Maybe she was worried poor Simon got a bruise.

(Yes, I watched it. I don't usually, but I was at a friends out and they wanted to watch it. Not that it was bad to watch. I quite liked the ventriloquist.)

Books & Comics / Re: New Comic Book Day Megathread
10 June, 2013, 11:17:58 PM
Not really the thread for this, but I didn't really want to start a new one. I had planned to put this in the New 52s thread but that thread hasn't been posted in for aaages (well, okay, february) so I'm not sure I should resurrect it...

Anyway. I popped along to Comixology to see if the new Animal Man and Swamp Thing comics were out (Swamp Thing is, Animal Man isn't) so I could download last month's for the £1.00 discount... and they were the same price. One search later, I came across this...

Little rascals. So... do I wait another whole month for the price to drop? My memory is bad enough as it is.

Not a big deal really, but just a little heads up for anyone who waits for the monthly discount.

Okay back to the spirit of this thread- mainly the same pulls for me:  2000 AD, The Megazine and, on the digital front the afore mentioned Animal Man, and Swamp Thing and All Star Western.

I also noticed that the lastest Dark Tower Comic: On Evil Ground #2 is finally out on Comixology so I pulled that too. I'm also reading comics from the the library but as there's another thread for that and I've waffled on enough.... blah blah, etc.

I saw it. Mostly set up and
an interesting little bit at the end that relates to the beginning
although I think the subtitle as misleading. I'm sure it showed  '4 years later' when it meant '4 years earlier'). I think some people might find it a bit slow but I wasn't bored and didn't find it a bad thing at all.

Thank you for reminding me! And just in time, too. I'd planned to see this but, well, clean forgot.
