There's still plenty of unknown stuff in that time period though. As long as they keep the series finite in length ( i.e one or two series before dealing with another time period in another show) they should have enough scope to play with. This is the early days of the formation of the Federation so I'd imagine there could be a lot of political and negotiation stuff going on. They may still be dealing with the aftermath of the Earth/Romulan war too, which I believe happened between the Enterprise and Star Trek time periods. (Sigh. Why did they have to cancel Enterprise early? It would likely have dealt with that war....)

The lower tech doesn't bother me, but then I enjoyed Enterprise.

Btw if you haven't found out yet, Colin Baker is AMAZING on Big Finish.

I've heard he was good.

I haven't seen much of Colin Baker's Doctor Who, I didn't like the episode I saw him in much, but I actually thought his Doctor was rather good.

While I'm glad they're going back to the Cybermen of Mondasian origin, I'm not a fan of the costume design. Something different from the Cybus  Industries chaps* to differentiate them and acknowledge the seperate origins and timelines is welcome, but blokes with rubber masks with metal blocks strapped to their chest? No thanks.

I can understand why they're doing it, and I guess an in story explanation could be that this isn't just the Mondasian but the actual early generation from the First Doctor's time period. An early stage in their evolution, if you like.

I'm interested to see the episode and how these Cybermen are used, despite disliking the designs. The faces are creepy, though.

*A design I do actually like. I'd question they're actually Cybermen at all though since they originate from an entirely different planet and (presumably) species in that universe. There was a nice little Easter egg on a Doctor Who related website devoted to Cybus Industries suggesting that they actually got hold of the Cyberman head from the parallel universe version of the bunker from the episode Dalek (you remember the first outing of the Daleks in the new Who time-period). The assumption being that the Cybus Industries Cybermen are actually based on the Mondasian Cybermen technology. I quite like that explanation, if the Cybusmen have to be Cybermen.

Appearance-wise, I suppose the morlock look would be most realistic for mutants of human origin (assuming they are human in origin. Maybe they (or the bruja) are actually from animal stock and sentience and linguism came with the mutation) but I think I prefer the predatory lizard look. Tht might be largely due to their excellent realisation in the Judge Minty film as well.

Being reptile based, (at least in appearance. They could still be mammalian)  I guess they share some similarity with the kleggs, but they're different enough, being based more on lizards than crocodilians. Their bodies are actually rather different too, giving the impression of something sleek, mean and fast, while the kleggs are more like bulky humanoids with crocodile heads. Tanks, in the gaming non literal sense of the words. They're possibly more powerful in a one on one punch up, but once the munja/brujas do their stealth thing and start scrabbling around walls, the odds change a lot. They're both interesting in their way.

And yeah, I don't like the crab hands, of the morlocks. They are scary looking creatures though, I will say.

As for the Xeno-with-mohican look, no thanks. It's kinda scary, but it's been done before, and it's too alien (pun unintended).

Night of the Living Deb.

I hadn't even heard about this pun-tastic RomZomCom before I encountered it on the Horror Channel a couple of nights ago.

I didn't like it very much although it had its amusing moments. Other parts that were probably supposed to be funny, I found irritating. I think maybe someone wanted to capture the gold of the equally pun-tastic Shawn of the Dead, but I think they failed.
[And the declaration of love speech during the broadcast at the end was cornier than a cornfield, full of bioengineered triple yield corn after harvest that was cooked up, slathered in butter and dipped in corn-flour.

Yeah I'm a bit rubbish with my similes.
The main character was cute and quirky though.

General / Re: Are all new graphic novels hardcover?

I haven't checked the format of all the new outings, but I think there'll still be plenty of paperbacks produced in future. The Judge Dredd case files are entirely paperback (with the exception of those special editions) for one thing, and they're still in production.

It would also be cutting off a major source of profit, condidering the cost compared to hardbacks.

Film & TV / Re: Suicide Squad has (most of) its cast

I'm another who rather liked Suicide Squad.

I liked Batman vs Superman too, actually, although it is a bit messy and takes itself rather seriously.

Mind you, I seem to like quite a lot of films others consider rubbish, so, I'm not sure how much my opinion is worth.

I do like the majority of films others rate hi ghly too. The Nolan Batman films got on my nerves a bit, though. I didn't dislike them (I thought the first was really good actually) but I did find them somewhat pretentious, and a bit overrated.

Weirdly I think that this is how the normal Waterstones audience look at the current Dredd trades.

I honestly believe 80% of them don't know 2000ad is still being published.
They think they are new originated content.

One thing I find really irritating about Waterstones is that sign they have over the collections/GN section: IT'S NOT COMICS.

Yes. It. Is.

That being said, if it draws in new customers who usually associate comics as being just for kids, I guess that's no bad thing. I'd prefer they didn't misinform to do it though.

He can do 'odd chap' well, at least. A big Doctor trait.

It made me chuckle.

Edit- Never mind,  Goaty beat me to it on the Dirty Laundry thread.

Odd coincidence is that Im following Forever war now.
But yeah, the third book is the best one IMO.On the Halo herself, she is kinda bland. She just kinda goes with the flow and is tossed around by the story. She doesn't really exhibit an influence on her own life/story.

I dunno. When she
gave her boyfriend that final cuddle at the end of Book 3, I think she did something very decisive for the future of herself and the war in general.  She kind of goes with the flow to start with, then puts her foot down and says "no more"! Actually she does that in book 1 too by leaving the loop.
I've never understood how Halo Jones is 'unfinished': all the existing plots and characters are resolved, bar the odd apocryphal suggestion from the history class, every name, concept and organisation mentioned across the three series appears and contributes something. It ends where it begins, with the character gazing towards the stars, going out. If you didn't know there were additional books planned, you wouldn't miss them.

This totally.

When watching Neil Gaiman's review of Halo Jones in the recent thrill power video on the 40th (sorry, the title of the production skips my memory) I had similar thoughts when Mr. Gaiman laments the fact Mr. Moore did not finish the Halo Jones story. Don't get me wrong, it was a lovely review. And if Alan Moore had written or writes more (ugh, no pun intended) I'd snap it up. The future ideas of Halo Jones becoming a space pirate, etc are smashing, but I've always felt that the ending as we have it was fine and as a story it is complete.

Sequel stories, fine! They'll further the saga, but in a similar way to how the Star Wars sequels further Star Wars. If they'd stopped with A New Hope, your have still had a complete story that's fine in itself. If they'd stopped at Empire Strikes Back.. probably not so much, what with Luke's daddy issues and Han. being on ice, and all.

I didn't realise there was a second series of The Expanse already. I watched  a whole lot of series 1 shortly after it premiered on Netflix late last year. (Unfortunately I'd cancelled Netflix and my time period ran out short way from the end. Never mind, I'll catch up...)

Wow.  Very nice. I wonder if they'll have the wing open mechanism fitted? ( Do you remember how you'd do that by pressing R2s head on the old toy? )

Those glass cube crafts 'free gifts' look pretty nifty too.

I wasn't sure we even could subscribe yet, considering Molch-r's posts. I know there's a link on-site, where we can enter details, but I wonder if they're taking the information there yet. Response messages are easily automated.
