Film & TV / Re: The 13th Doctor

The Doctor hasn't yet regenerated into a previous incarnation, so I doubt it. That's not to say Matt Smith couldn't come back as the incarnation he actually played interacting with the current Doctor due to time travel related shenanigans as that's happened quite a bit before.

Thanks, Hawkmumbler's recommendation of the Maxx and a read-up of the blurb persuaded me. Just went for the $1 minimum, but that's still quite a bit of material. I've got Locke and Key already. (Likely from previous deals.  )

*How do you have terrestrial vegetation without insects or birds? What eats the dead cellulose so the planet isn't miles deep in dead plant matter? How does an obvious cultivar like that wheat spread its seeds without active human management? Why am I pretty sure nobody cares?

Spoiler (but you probably know it if you've read other blurb):
I'm sure the android chap from Prometheus is involved in that. And possibly that black gunk.
It looks good. I guess it's not a bad thing to lean more towards the aliens side of things, but I do hope they do something different too, to differentiate it from the other films.
(And I don't mean the spine popper.)
I hope they don't leave too much of the subjects from Prometheus behind. No matter how low people tend to esteem that film (I actually thought it was okay, but I can understand people's reactions)  the ideas in it weren't bad, at least.

Rogue trooper remaster on One, PS4 , PC and Switch

I thought you were joking, but yup confirmed for Switch (and others)

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/02/rebellion_is_reviving_rogue_trooper_for_nintendo_switch

Okay. I should have read further down the thread before posting.

Not as good news as a sequel perhaps, but then, who knows what would be added?

Hope so!

Absolutely loved that game!!!  :)

Me too. Although I never did get past that train level and gave up after a while. I intend to dust off the PS2* (or maybe it'll be the PC if I go the emulator route) and have another go, though likely from the beginning. I loved it up until the train level.

Does this mean I might have to consider getting a PS4 in future? Heh.

*Yes I've still got PS2. That's the irritating thing about consoles not being backwardly compatible, and you still have games you like. I e been thinking of getting an emulator so I can play Ps2 games on my PC, but that seems a while lot of rigmarole considering  bios, etc, and my CD-Rom drive has gone wrong...

I remember enjoying The leopard Of Lime St as a youth, but I worry it may have dated. Fingers crossed.

To say it's like a bristish Spider-Man is an understatement.

From the official press release:

"Billy Farmer ... is scratched by a radioactive leopard  at the local zoo. Gaining leopard-like strength, speed, reflexes, and tree-climbing abilities, when he's not fighting crime, Billy sells photographs of himself to the local paper, using the money to support his frail aunt"

Radioactive leopard? Cor blimey!

Really?

I knew it was about  lad with leopard powers (I believe I even read one episode back in the day, although possibly not in the original comic) but they actually went the radioactive and photographer route too?

On the plus side, I seem to remember the tone being different from Spider-man.

Hmm. I don't have the space or finance for this and it would involve some double dipping. It's tempting though, as these volumes are so nice and likely I'd just sell older volumes of material I already own, if I got these.

I may very well get the first volume though. I don't have Slaine: The Horned God, and what a bargain for that price!

That was my introduction to Slaine via Lewisham library.

When I found out there wasn't a Strontium Dog story in the prog*, I'll admit I mentally questioned Johnny being on the front cover. (I kind of like my covers to have something to do with the contents, unless it's a big 'loads of characters included' crowd scene.)

I guess the thing about it is, it is the 40th Anniversary special and I think it is fair to say Strontium Dog is 2000AD's 2nd best well know strip, so given that I think it is perfectly reasonable for him to be on the cover. And Carlos is probably 2000AD's best loved artist and these are "his" two main 2000AD characters...so of course they are going to feature on the cover...I would have thought...

Reasonable sure. You make a good point. I was just expressing a personal preference e that I prefer characters on the cover to be in that prog.

Well turns out Johnny Alpha was, anyway, (albeit another strip) so it worked out anyway.

If he wasn't, it still wouldn't have been a big deal. It's a smashing picture!

Im starting Ballad of Halo Jones.Futuristic lingo is a bit confusing.

I guess it can be that way to start with, but I think it works. You can usually get what they're saying by context, etc.

Cover - Lovely. (I bought the Carlos Ezquerra one.)

I loved having the little gag 'tween' strips. Very amusing. The second one before Zombo with that chap being interviewed and sitting on the Zombo lookalike's lap (actually was that the Visible man?)  kind of went over my head. I'm assuming this is a character (Mach ...?) before my time in the prog.

Judge Dredd - Okay story, although quite linear. Nice art.

Zombo - This strip isn't usually my cup of tea, but I liked this one. Again the gag at the end flew over my head as I think it featured a character before my time.

Ro-Busters - The story was simple, amusing, but okay. The art was lovely. I really liked the lead-in one pager by TMO, and Mark Sexton.

Giant Robots two-page Spread - I don't remember those characters (apart from Mek-Quake at the bottom. Just shows how big the others actually are when you consider how dwarfed he is here in his kill-dozer mode), but it's a cracking picture.

Durham Red - Highlight of the strip in my opinion. Great twisty story and nice Ezquerra art. When I found out there wasn't a Strontium Dog story in the prog*, I'll admit I mentally questioned Johnny being on the front cover. (I kind of like my covers to have something to do with the contents, unless it's a big 'loads of characters included' crowd scene.) It turns out Johnny features a lot in this story though, so fair enough. In fact, it wouldn't be out of place as a Strontium Dog story, despite it being very much dominated by Durham Red. Its fitting she is the title character for this story, though, the conniving minx. She really owns it.

Slaine - Of the two Pat Mills stories, this is my favourite. That's unusual as I usually much prefer modern Ro-Busters/ABC Warriors to modern Slaine, but this was such an entertaining story. It was so very silly and twisted, but not in a bad way. Funny stuff, if rather warped (no pun intended).
I wonder how Calad fared as a member of the Red Branch though. Did Cathbad magically reconnect his bits, I wonder?
I seem to remember the name 'Cathbad' from mythology, which is nice.

The lead in strip before Nikolai Dante -
are they suggesting Tharg and Burt were having an affair in the broom cupboard, or do I have a filthy mind?
Nikolai Dante - A great little one-off. I liked the 'sort of cameos' of other characters. I appreciate the storyline is over, but I probably wouldn't mind more if they had a good idea. The idea mentioned in the Primer of a story based on other characters in that world might be a better route to go though.

*Entitled 'Strontium Dog', I mean. The Durham Red strip does actually feature two dogs, but you know what I mean.

I didn't know they were doing Anderson in that scale.

I'll hold out for the 1/12 I think (hoping they do that) but it will be nice to see.

Mine came this morning. In a plastic envelope too, which is brilliant considering the weather!

Film & TV / Re: Last movie watched...

Red - just now. I was in two minds about watching it, but I'm glad I did.  Very entertaining, some great comedy and action. A kind of far fetched story, but not in a bad way. Bruce Willis is... Bruce Willis (a good thing in this case) Helen Mirren is delicious, Brian Cox is a likeable old Russian rogue (not for the first time, surely?), Morgan Freeman is his usual likeable self, and there are other great characters played my actors whose names I can't remember. Oh and our Karl Urban is in it too in a major role.
His character goes on a bit of a journey actually.
I was intrigued by the idea mentioned by the droids of other stories in the same universe, though.

Out of interest when was that mentioned? At Robbie Morrison's panel at the 40th?'

I read it in the interview with Simon Frasier and Robbie Morrison in the primer document attached to the recent thrill mail type email.

Just to be clear, I don't think it's a definite plan. When asked if there were any plans for more, Mr Morrison said it was more likely that we would see a story set in that universe, perhaps with familiar characters, but not necessarily featuring Dante himself.
