Cor, I was delighted by these works all over again. Thank you all for giving so generously of your time and talent, it really boosted my enjoyment of the festive season. I feel so privileged to have been a part of this and to be in the company of such excellent people. The rest of the 'net should worship 2000ADonline, I know I do.

Thanks again, and I wish you all a happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year!

Jesus Christ Almighty, what a mess. Self-indulgent twaddle. It felt like RTD wrote this with his penis, masturbating the words onto the page like some Hellish Satanist with brain damage and a book called "Why Science is Bollocks" as his only reference.

Radiation-proof glass? Okay, no problem, I can live with that. But, a gap you could poke your fingers through around the radiation-proof glass? And, what kind of idiot designs something that, when it goes wrong, deliberately shunts deadly radiation into the very place where the operator is standing? On the other hand, maybe we could demolish Parliament and rebuild it along the same lines - keep your fingers on those buttons, MPs, and if the banking system goes breasts aloft again you'll all be irradiated.

I couldn't wait for it to end. When the Doctor had the gun and couldn't decide who or what to point it at for an hour, I found myself shouting "for God's sake shoot SOMEBODY!" at the telly. "Shoot anybody! Shoot yourself, even! Just get on with it!"

Disappointing in the extreme.

Looks like GIs aren't immune to the cold, and why is she armed with a hoover?

How about Tyranny Rex? A green wash and hours of fun drawing the scales.

"Give me control of a nation's money and I care not who makes her laws."

Mayer Amschel Rothschild.

There's a lot of money being made in Iraq. Oil is just a small part of it as you can make far more money out of exploiting a whole country than just its oilfields. The fact is that it's our economic system that's the main problem, not our governments. Take away the influence of the corporations and re-purpose our governments to do something more useful, like looking after the well-being of as many people as possible, and this world would be a much better place. This is also true on a personal level. Take away the domination of corporations from my life, and my life would be so much better.

We all know this is true.

Case in point, the banks (whether deliberately or through incompetence) have "lost" a great deal of "our" money* and instead of punishing or restructuring them we allow them to be given even more money. This money isn't even ours to give, but belongs to our unborn generations. We are all enslaved and ensuring that slavery will continue for many years to come. Why? Because they tell us that this is the only way. And who's this "they?" That's right, "they" are the rich, ruling elite - the ones who got us into this mess in the first place.

It's time for a change. I don't call for armed revolution or assassination of bankers, that would have to be a very, very last resort. All we need to do is press for change. I once read that it only takes 3% of a population to usher in any revolution.

The best thing we could do is to put the Bank of England under the control of the people and run it for the benefit of the people. Some will tell you that the BoE DOES belong to the people, but I think you'll find that we only own the building and all the profits the BoE makes go into private hands. Imagine a government-run bank that doesn't need to make a profit, where any British Citizen can get a loan for one or two per cent interest. How would that change the lives of poorly paid people with mortgages? I think it would make life quite a lot better. So, all we have to do is get 3% of the population to call for a Real Bank of England and let the big, corporate banks continue screwing each other and leave us out of it. Oh, hang on, if we had a fair bank, the others might collapse. Bummer.

Until we sort the economic system out, we'll continue to send the flower of our youth out to die for questionable causes. We'll continue to have pensioners having to decide between heating and eating. We'll continue to groan under the pressure of artificially inflated bills. We'll continue to be a country of haves and have nots.

It may be comforting to think that our government will eventually sort this out, but they won't. Why should they? There's no incentive for them to do so: Buck the system and get smeared in the press or marginalised; or go along with it and end up with a peerage and seats on loads of juicy, lucrative corporate boards. They can't help us, even if they wanted to.

The future, my friends, is up to us. For all the problems and iniquities of this grand country of ours, the power to fix it does not lie in Westminster or in shadowy conspiratorial backrooms or in corporate offices. The power resides in the streets. It lies in the living rooms, kitchens, offices, fields and factories. Look at your own hands. Go on, just have a look. That is where the power is, whether you believe it or not.

*Money which never actually existed in the first place, but that's another argument altogether.

Come on, Shark, squaddies do a lot more thinking than you give them credit for!  They're not shaking in their boots at the thought of going to Afghanistan, they understand exactly what soldiering's about.  They are all volunteers.  No one has forced them to go!

That's not what I meant, Tankie, and I'm very sorry if that's the impression I gave.

What I'm saying is, if the squaddies were given the true facts (ie, "We're going into Iraq in order for the US to gain an economic and political foothold in the Middle East for the benefit of the ruling elite,") would they still be as enthusiastic to die for that as they would for a lie (such as WMDs being targetted at the West)?

I in no way meant to imply that soldiers are stupid, unthinking automatons. Any person who puts him or herself in harm's way for the benefit of others deserves the utmost respect in my book. And yes, I do mean ANY person.

And, just in case folk think that our governments and military never lie: http://alethonews.wordpress.com/2009/12/13/on-the-demonization-of-saddam-hussein-and-manuel-noriega/

It's the last WNC before Christmas, so why not pour yourself a glass of the necessary, throw another reindeer on the fire and come have a Yuletide yap in the Yap Shop?

"If my soldiers were to begin to think, not one would remain in the ranks." (Frederick The Great (1712 - 1786))

And if we were to begin to think, not one of us would tolerate any government that sends our kith and kin to die for power and lies.
