Well I got it my GF it for her birthday and we watched it last night. We laughed our asses of to it. Cheers to 2000ad for the heads up!

Was anybody else sucked in by the blatant whoring?

I also, recently  watched a DVD a mate gave me to look at about the development of the core characters of Marvel and DC. A great history and a bit from Dave Gibbons too.

Prog / Re: PROG 1599 - Blind Rage

I've read this weeks finally. Tharg if yer gonna give yer subbers it on saturday, please give us the shop shelf on monday. Its been like avoiding a blow-out in a Korean minefield this passed week.

That said, looking at all the spoilers is as much of a reveal as what's in the prog!
I really like a fistful of Dredd. There're many reasons to why the fist was used and not his usual style of cold, calculated style of execution. The guns were lost in the transition of the cuffs. The cuffs went on because he couldn't see. It was easier to beat the Trask JUDGE killer to death.
Morrison's angry rhetoric covered two stories.
We wanted a furious justice to arrive on two villains this week. One got by with just a wound, the other, though getting killed, took a young judge off ther street. And In the former, our hero is charred like a barbequed red pepper.I was anry the Tsar didn't die and angry that the true justice hadn't been served to Trask.
TT+TT. BB 1st:Quickly looked at it and it reminds me of those sixties comics that publish these weird stories that you have to be stoned and make your own dialogue.

A.W. + C. R. Weell. I'm gonna have to get back to that one.

Sin Dex. With a little help from the board it just pipped above average. It may be having watched footage of  Jack Kirby, but I want an action story reflected by the artist and even if you know you may not ever be number one, aiming for first place will always grant you a place on the leaders board. From there, you may one day reach the heart of the pride's kill. This is my mantra and I'm sticking to it.

Cover was good but I didn't enjoy the the type where it was or it coloring.

All I think is that people need to be reminded of the awesome power of these "Bombs" and it's been a while since a film like this was made. Like we are brushing it under the carpet or " it's so very eighties" to think of it in such a way. Threads was an accurate portrayal of an "attack" but it still lives in the world of fiction and the ending looks like it could open to a sequel.

As a body of work I think Threads is worth seeing. Infact my GF was born in 1984 and doesn't even know the film exists. This probably got me to thinking about it going on IPlayer.

As for foresight, doesn't William H Burrough talk about a man who puts eyes in his ass? Well that story reminds me how to feel about premonitioning.

Some great simple but effective tips there Ruf.

I'm always looking for outstanding techniques but I must say the Megazine hasn't seen a cover of that magnitude in some time.

I was unable to get the latest three progs until recently. In a way it has enriched the thrills, reading them all in one go.

The Dredd story smacks of Die Hard. No bad thing really. Great art and remeniscient storyline are a thrill.

Dante builds from a Bond end/beginning from last weeks prog to this high alert this week. I'm sure the story could have done without a whole episode of dante talking the Major Liberty to being on his side as he really didn't seem to do much more than give a rallying cry. I wasn't that moved by it. I think it would have fit better with the emergence of the Tzar's betrayal and then Dante having to pull the speech out but I can't see that working to well either. In fact it works well as an Americanism.

Defoe is palpable and with readiing it one after another for three progs, I'm veritably decided it makes sense and was ready for Pat Mills to do his usual volume crimp off. Essentially it is all for the meeting of the two with a harridon baddy. I understood perfectly and a little insight into the colorful team of zombie killers was also a benefit to thrill buffers.

The Terror tales was great and the serial killer reminded me of, Ade Bamforth from pictures I've seen of him. The artist is so ready for a color project that he is chomping at the bit. Nice backgrounds. I'm with "I don't want a back story to the visionary thing" block, who you fighting with?

SinDex is a good wheeze. Anthoy williams artwork makes me want to read it in the shower so at least the print will bleed slightly. Probably the only strip which benefits a weekly wait.

And finally...

Robot Chicken for the GF's birthay present. Perfick!

Yup. Great film.

Glad I watched it. As for the other two, I'll keep an eye out for them.

I'm also glad it is on a cirrculum somewhere.

I saw it again last night on Google video. It is all on there. An utterly unrelenting film.

There is the sample of the tv/ radio broadcast, Frankie Goes to Hollywood used in Two Tribe.

I still want it up on BBC's docu-dramas.

Well I watched a bit of it this morning o Google video. And I agree with all the comments above. It should come underneath some history/scientific analogy, educational thing. Its significant now  with the "age of the cellular or the internet" because that's all going to go down with the EMP pulse. It's a technology we've had for over fifty years coming and a mind-set consistant to its development by human beings.

It also has my home town of Buxton, in the story. I was thinking on the bus back from Manchester, the draft from Sheffield would maybe pass over a lot of Buxton as its hugging a valley wall. It  always reminds me of Threads.

I aslso agree with Home to Roost comment, too.

No worries el-lopo, I just get the impression Alan's a bit of a moaner when it comes to business and hoped you'd have a spot of gossip on it.

Ivory, rare?

Well that could mean he sits in an ivory tower or, as he certainly is, a rare and as precious to the comics world as ivory. And I shouldn't mess with the supply of it. But I can't help thinking that if I met him, he would bore me lots, with rightious indignation about where his stories now go, commercially.

Quoteit's a shame it's been tainted for Alan.

Are we sure that Alan doesn't get pissed off with every one of his creations, once they become the property of someone else?

How was this character tainted for the ivory rare Alan, el-lopo?

I would dearly like to know.

Film & TV / Should BBC's THREADS be shown on IPlayer?
03 August, 2008, 10:37:38 PM
A film I only caught a glimpse of in '84. Yet I still feel it is an underrated, British, scifi (small 's') classic of '84.
