Hi guys, Just thought I would introduce myself and get some much needed advice from you guys.
I have always wanted to collect all of the 2000ad comics since I was introduced to the whole universe (clever marketing ploy by the publishers to pull some younger readers in) by the release Judge Dredd : Lawman of the Future and obviously the famous advert. I have all of these stashed away somewhere.
Ever since then I was hooked and picked up my first 2000ad comic which was (I think) Judge dredd Classics. It was the story of Chopper and it was absolutely amazing.
So in the early/mid 90's I religiously spent the little money I had on 2000ad comics. My favourites of the time for me were Judge Dredd and Sinister Dexter. The most embarrasing moment was getting my dad to go into Forbidden Planet for me to buy the "sex" issue which was hugely forgetable and not worthy of the embarrasment when the shopkeeper told my dad about what he was buying.
Anyway last year I was a subscriber of both 2000ad and the megazine, I found the 2000ad a bit hit and miss but I do love the megazines. My subscription has stopped but I recently acquired a full personal collection of Judge Dredd megazines from former editor David Bishop. I pick these up tomorrow.
I also have a few graphic novels such as the Pit which i found fantastic and I have over 700 copies of 2000ad with one of the earliest being around the number 40 mark but the bulk of them start at about the 500's and are broken till the most recent issues.
I am very confused and I need a little guidance from you hardened fans. I would like to have the whole background and stories of Judge Dredd as a start but when browsing the forums I find a lot of debate about the dredd stories being published in a muddled up way and I need to know what the best way to collect them would be. I recently seen the case files novels, will these be reprinting all of the stories?
I would of course like to have all 2000ad's but this is some way away.
Obviously 2000ad provides most of the stories i need but what does the megazine and Extreme comics give me. I am of course going to keep up my collection of the megazines but are the extreme editions essential?
I do apologise if this size of thread is not the norm.
John
