I've just finished reading the Secret Commonwealth and was quite disappointed by it, to say the least. When it started, I did like that it was set back in the original continuity and that it featured him coming back from his "time travels", I also liked the choice of villain (won't say who since you haven't read it yet, Colin) but as it rumbled on it got more and more annoying. I really think the art made it read worse than it actually was though. Terrible, terrible, terrible, really couldn't tell what was going on half the time, especially in the battle scenes, and the colouring was way off..................... I think had this been done by a different artist it wouldnt get slated half as much as it did, because the script was no worse than any of the stuff that happened throughout the time travelling eras, in fact I'd say it was better than most of those tales.

Anyway, with that said - Enjoy the story when you get to it Colin!! ;)

Don't have much to add to all this except to say I enjoy Defoe quite a bit too. Its bonkers and the art is fab and when its running its a strip that I have to take a bit of time over reading and digesting, which I like, coz it makes the prog last longer and makes me feel like I'm getting more value for money! Plus it keeps you on your toes by referring to stuff thats happened in previous books so you have to keep on looking up the old stuff so you know whats going on... Sounds like hard work but again, I enjoy this, it engages the brain and you can't just breeze through the six pages in a couple of minutes.

Red Seas...I WANT to like it, and I don't DISLIKE it but...yeah, it would be nice if it actually went somewhere, or picked a direction and stayed with it rather than chopping and changing every couple of stories. The art I think does detract from it somewhat, I do like a bit more detail in the panels than just the heads of the two people who are talking. Back in the old Zenith days Yeowell would have been my favourite artist but these days I dont enjoy his work that much unfortunately.

Havent got to SCB in my trawl thruogh the old progs yet but I'll keep an eye out for it. I did enjoy Canon fodder 2 (more than the first!) and Rose O'rion though. Wasn't overly sold on Grudgefather 2 I have to admit, bit too bizarre for me!

Anyway, welcome to the board kek-w! (I presume, from your first post, that it is kek-w that you prefer to be addressed as?)

Other Reviews / Re: Early done in one Sinister Dexter

I hear you Colin.
I'm slogging my way through the old progs myself and am up in the mid 1100s now, having read what you are on in the last few weeks. Those Sinister Dexters are brilliant. I almost enjoyed them more than the unending arc-linked stuff Ive been reading since coming back to the fold with prog 1500 (though I am still enjoying all that stuff too). I actually wish they would just end this War of the Roses thing already though, then rest the characters for a bit, before returning to this one-off story format. I think it works really well, in the same way as Dredd one-offs work well. I can't think of any other strip that can do it.
Great stuff.

Krombasher, I agree about the way this episode of Mork Whisperer was put together. Very cinematic, with scenes fading into each other while the " voiceover" keeps us up with events. I dont think Ive seen this approach before and it took me a couple of seconds to figure out what was happening. Very cool though. Theres a real Marlowe feel to this installment! Love it!
