Film & TV / Re: Doctor Who - Closing Time (24/09/11)
24 September, 2011, 09:27:10 PM
Just watched a double bill of God Complex and this. Enjoyed both I have to say. Although, yeah, did have to groan a bit at the end of this one with the "power of love" destroying the Cybermen. Ididnt mind the baby crying bringing Craig back to his senses bit, that was all pretty cool , but they could have left it at that and then just had the doctor use his screwdriver thingy to blow the ship up somehow, instead of all the head-explodey stuff. But oh well.

Events / Re: Octocon 2011

Seems like fun, I reckon I'll make it along to one of the days. No timetable of events up yet but I'd love to say hi to Mike and Richmond - let me know what day you both will be there (if not both!)

Film & TV / Re: Johnny five is alive (again)

Yeah I'm up for this. Love the old ones of course but they are a bit dated. Be cool to see a new version. And I always did want a Johnny 5 figure (did they ever make them?) which would be a guarantee with amovie like this nowadays.

Books (got a shedload of Koontz novels to catch up on). Games (the upcoming new Zelda game for the Wii would be nice). Graphic Novels (from the House of Tharg, natch). DVDs (some Japanese B-movie types, or the 2 new Van Damme ones that should be out by the end of the year).

Oh, and of course a copy of The Jikan Chronicles Volume 2!!

I'm pretty sure everyone who posts here will have remarkably similar lists!!

Prog / Re: Prog 1751: the Exterminating Angel
17 September, 2011, 03:37:06 PM
Loved the start of Angel Zero. Great art and although it looks like its set in some ordinary desert town, the various references (organice car parts, sky sharks) hint at a lot of coolness coming our way. Art is fantastic as well, especially on page 2. Think I'm going to like this.

Also enjoying Indigo Prime, it seems like this story has been waiting to be told for about 20 years, at last a proper story about the organisation itself and not just spot agents. Like the last page of this one and am suitably intrigued.

Everything else was great too but these two were my standouts.

Ah balls, for some reason this comp passed a lot quicker than I expected. My Sinisterus Dexterus story featuring the duo as a pair of Roman Centurians-for-hire never made it out of the ideas stall unfortunately! Well, I'll have a jolly good read of this lot and get my votes in asap!

Devlin Waugh is in the pipeline (with Peter Doherty on art).

Oooooh, hadn't heard about this? For the prog or the meg??

My kids (7 and 4) had no idea what was supposed to be happening and I was having a hard time providing a running explanation as it seemed to be a bit lacking in logic to me too.

They liked Rory bot though.

Oh yeah I did have to keep on explaining why there were 2 Amy's and why the older one would cease to exist if they took the younger one away....I find it helps explaining the plots of these things to kids, you have to dumb it down to its much basic summary - and forces you to figure it out for yourself!

The Van Dom's enjoyed this episode as well, a bit more than last weeks. Yeah, the Mona Lisa bit was just stupid, even my 5 year old asked how smashing a painting over a robots head could 'kill' it!!!

He didn't even have the decency to get my name right before bashing me!

You're not alone, I got called Van "Doom" in a couple of places....hope he's not trying to tell me something!! :)  Shame chapter 2 disappointed him by not being as 'straightforward' as chapter 1...that could be a problem, as this story will turn out to be anything BUT straightforward!! This story is going to be MENTAL! (Tell 'em Davey!!!)

Bit short and sweet that review, I would have liked him to expand a bit on how I was stumbling over my ideas. Too much exposition? It was the "what the hell is going on" chapter so a certain amount of it was unavoidable, maybe I went overboard.
