Quote from: Richmond ClementsNothing worse than being stuck ...with a group of men talking about fucking well football or cricket...

On the contrary - football is so universal that it's a wonderful ice-breaker. It's inherently geographical so when someone says they're from Brighton you can go, "oh, we just sold Craig Noone to you lot" for example.

No other subject comes close to being all-encompassing amongst men.

I did try to start up conversations about my passions for Judge Dredd, Ken Loach films, London's Burning and the latest album by some 80s Paisley Underground survivor - but you get to be far more popular if you make reference to the beautiful game.

I agree with Banners 100 per cent, he is absolutely right and I came to the realisation many years ago. Unfortunately, try as I might, I just was incapable of learning anything about it. I really did try, as I work in an office with 3 other guys who talk about nothing but football all day long and I am constantly sitting at my desk like Billy No Mates while they natter away happily. I know I could get involved if I could just somehow pay attention to the sports news, or read the sports pages in the free newspaper I get on the train in the morning, but every time I try my eyes just glaze over and my brain goes into automatic shutdown. Cant be done, wish it could!

This is more or less what I tend to do...I wouldnt let it build up for a whole year now, but I can get 4 or 5 months just letting them build up and then hit them and read story by story. Don't know why really, probably a time issue. Not that it takes long to read a single prog but since sprog number 4 turned up, even that amount of free time seems to elude me. I have about 15 odd progs to read at the moment and had planned to bring them with me to Japan to catch up........of course, I only went and forgot the bleedin' bag I'd packed them in, didn't I!!!! DOh!!!

A timely thread as I've been thinking along the lines of doing something like this myself lately. Just had a look at the ka-blam site Rich mentioned and got a quotation for 100 24pp b/w interior with full colour exterior/bw interior separate cover "magazine sized" (Im assuming that's close enough to 2000ad size in American comics terms?) at 175 dollars - about 140 euros. A hell of a lot less than I was expecting and very manageable. The only question I have - and maybe Rich can help - is, once you pay this for the 100 comics, what then? Do they ship them to you directly or just put them in storage for you to be called off as orders come in? Had a look at the f.a.q section on the site and cant see anything about it. If they do ship them to you I would imagine there is a separate charge?

Suffering a bit from lack of thrill power here in Tokyo - toyed with the idea of ordering this and having it delivered here, but when the options are 10USD postage for it to be here in 17 days (Ill be home by then) or 68USD to get it here in 3 days....I think I'll just hang on til I get home. I'm not suffering THAT badly!!!! Oh well, back to the hentai manga then.....

Just finished reading this in one go (sorry Im quite a bit behind in the weekly). Overall I liked it but preferred the first half to the second. Ill admit it lost me a bit when the witch woman came into it. I think I would have preferred a straight forward "run away from the werewolves" romp myself rather than all the hocus pocus stuff---but that says more about me than anything else! Still, I read it all, it didnt bore me and I didnt feel it was a chore going through each episode (like the most recent Red Seas adventure - sorry Red Seas fans!!) so....it was okay I guess!

Just took a bit of time out from packing for Japan to read through these and get my votes in. Great work by all as always, disappointed I didn't get something entered but my advent calendar game sucked up all my writing time! (Now you understand!)

Anyway, votes-wise, I'm going to plump for...

1) Greg M
2 - Lady F
3- Dounreay
HM - Blue Meanie.

I've now got a month in Japan ahead of me with plenty of free time so will definately be back for the next comp!

Cheers!
