Prog / Re: Prog 1994: For the attenshun of Judge Dredd

Random note, I wonder if Dredd will ever really catch PJ for good? My guess is PJ's tale will end with a darkly comedic/tragic demise or something of that nature.

Books & Comics / Re: Comics to be excited for in 2017

Definitely, it's harsh to see Invincible go so soon, felt like it still had a lot of story to tell. One of the best! It'll be 144 issues, or 12 Ultimate Collections long total when it concludes. At least it'll go out with a bang, nice 12 issue epic saga.

Other than that, in 2017 there's going to be an Overwatch original graphic novel telling the origin story for the crew in that fine video game. Worst World, a graphic novel trilogy by the Scott Pilgrim team will probably hit in 2017, that could be interestin.

Film & TV / Re: Suicide Squad has (most of) its cast

I am back in Newcastle as freelance work. There is subtitled screening of Suicide Squad tonight at 8pm, as it could be first film to watch since The Force Awakens. Is it worth to watch or wait till DVD?

cheers!

Up to you, I don't think it's a must see in the theater or anything, but that depends on how much you're guessing you'd dig it. I thought it was just okay, cheesy and shallow but with some charm.

New trailer rocks, way better than the first one for me. And Donnie Yen is the man. And I dig that guy at the end of the trailer.

(watch Tiger Cage 2 everybody, classic Donnie)

No edit button, I'm talking about a different Monster, but you'd probably dig that too. About a fugitive doctor on the hunt of a maniac.

The anime adaptation of Monster is really really well done, for the record, awesome stuff.

Lookin' good! Oddly enough I think it'll look even better with the logo and text in the empty spaces.

Those boots are too small. 😉😉

Possibly a nod to A Question of Judgement?

It's funny how details like that stick with you. I often think of that funny Dredd detail if I tie my running shoes too tight.

Dredd:  Wagner ... Ezquerra ... P. J. Maybe on a murderous rampage (dressed as a woman) ... nuff said.

I'm quite behind, but hot damn I'm excited for this! Man we're lucky.

Agreed on the Morricone love!

My most recent watch was River's Edge, really good movie! Dennis Hopper, Crispin Glover ruling us all, a soundtrack featuring lots of Slayer, an offbeat masterpiece.

Announcements / Re: Mezco Judge Dredd!

Looks very cool! I still dig my ol' Judge Dredd and Judge Death action figures from the Legendary Heroes line, but this is very tempting. Ditto for the more expensive 1/6th scale Dredd in the other topic.

The Lawmaster looks really awesome.

Nice to see the Sinister Dexter love, I agree, it's one of my favs.

From a scribbled note I wrote years ago, book 1 (Gunshark Vacation) is missing the stories from progs 982, 983, 986, & 1032. Book 2 is missing 1065, 1066, 1069, 1074, 1076, 1078, & 1083. Book 3 is missing progs 1087, 1096, and 1116-1122. Barney (2000ad.org) is the best.

Speaking of, since Barney at the moment covers just up to January 2015 (prog 1913), is there anywhere else that lists all Sinister Dexter's recent appearances? And ditto for other thrills? There's the wikipedia page which has a couple more stories listed up to prog 1961, not sure if that's up to date.

Am I failing to remember the relevant bits of the film, or was this also the first NuTrek to rein in the objectification of women that stood out so badly in the previous flicks?

It lacks the fun sexuality seen in the first two films, yep. Not that it's necessary for every story, but Kirk being in bed with catgirl aliens right off the bat is something my friends reference as fun. I think it fit the characterization, and I wouldn't call it a demonized "objectification" personally, but we all have different lines on things.

And the second one had Alice Eve in her underwear, but it also has a close-up of naked wet Benedict Cumberbatch in the shower. Anyways, I personally don't find those things offensive. And the writing for characters of either gender has generally been fine.

As for being determined not to like this movie, I thought it was okay. I go in with an open mind, I really liked the 2009 one, this one to me was a bit ho-hum.

Pretty cool, doesn't get much more 90s than Acclaim.

Yes, I have a graphic novel of the first 12 (?) issues somewhere.
Picked up the occasional single issue too from time to time.
This would have been early 1990's if memory serves.

Right on. Did you like it? Remember enough for an impromptu review?  :D
