12 April, 2013, 06:22:25 PM
Is it too early to call him, our own Inaki Mirandi? Maybe it is BUT he gets a nice write up over at The Beat and it links to his quite wonderful website. Enjoy.

You know the really chilling thing is there a Hollywood executive somewhere who doesn't get this is joke and is wonder if someone has that Bill Waterson's number cos this idea has legs... there really is.

I found this here

News / IDW colours Dredd
02 April, 2013, 08:44:37 AM
A while ago we were speculating that the artist focused volumes of Dredd material would be coloured in the way they had done with Dave Gibbons' Doctor Who stuff. This turned out not to be the case. It would seem however that IDW are planning on colouring some Dredd's. Found this hidden towards the end of an article on Bleeding Cool covering IDW's panel at WonderCon this weekend.

QuoteJudge Dredd Classics will be reprinting the best storylines in color, starting with Apocalypse War, and following it up with Block Mania. These will be done with modern color, and look brand new. They will also be printed in HC in the original black and white, for those who prefer the traditional look.

So that might be exciting? Full article here.

Seems strange that they are following Apocalypse War with Block Mania, maybe be the 'reporter' mishearing? Who knows.

... By Mark Waid and Paul Smith.

Sweet mother of God I just had a powerful, powerful nerdgasm. I mean really does it get any better than that?

I put up a linkie for a website the other day that mocks up covers for comics crossovers you'd love to see.

http://forums.2000adonline.com/index.php/topic,38241.0.html

Now normally stuff this good would be the stuff of fantasy on site likes this BUT according to Bleeding Cool, not so, this is real and happening. Anyone who read Mark Waid's recent Rocketeer - Cargo of Doom knows that its in very safe hands too.

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/03/30/its-rocketeerspirit-by-mark-waid-and-paul-smith/

Colour me giddy!

Edited to add: 4 issue mini, more details here.

(thought they get the date of the last Spirit series wrong, he had one in 2010, ending 2011)

General / The Beat reviews Prog 1824
27 March, 2013, 08:44:27 PM
Well, well, well. Now I should have out this in my previous tread about superb comics website The Beat's recent courting of the Galaxies Greatest BUT this is such a great piece I wanted to highlight it. With Prog 1824 being a jumping on point and jumping on points seeming to be a big deal in a lot of comics overall, The Beat got its reviewers to do just that and jump on board and see how it went down.

So why not check out how 6 new(ish in one or two cases) got on with the Prog.

http://comicsbeat.com/review-everyone-at-the-beat-jumps-on-to-2000ad-prog-1824/

The results are both intriguing and very gratifying. Just the sort of thing I'd love to see happen more often when the Prog is discussed across the pond. Fantastic stuff.

Via Comics Should be Good I stumbled across this fantastic site.

http://braveandboldlost.blogspot.co.uk/

Well photoshopped (well to my eyes) for a change mocked up covers of fantasy team-ups

I defy anyone who like American comics to look at this site for more than a couple of minutes without seeing something that they really wished actually exists.

General / Molch-R on marketing 2000ad
19 March, 2013, 01:30:56 PM
Well The Beat is really cranking up its coverage of 2000ad of late, which is good as its possibly my favourite comics site (after this one of course). Its latest offering is an interview with interviewer and marketing droid Molch-R (though they insist on being grown up and calling him by his proper name.).

http://comicsbeat.com/interview-2000ads-mike-molcher-on-spreading-the-word-of-tharg/

Its a really interesting read AND maybe seems to say that readership is increasing, which can only be very, very good news... though I might be misinterpreting a statement, which says 2000ad is adding readers, may not be increasing???... anyway just read it, its good.

Books & Comics / Stan Lee - Parkour
15 March, 2013, 04:12:11 PM
Now I have to say sometimes Stan Lee's endless self publicity goes kinda grate on me, though at his age its incredible he still manages it with such vim and vigour. Anyway this however is so, so right.

So very, very right...

Books & Comics / Women in comics
08 March, 2013, 08:13:16 PM
Great interview with the two female writers of two of my favourite runs in comics. Anne Nocenti (whose Daredevil is in my top ten defo) and Louise Simonson (whose Power Pack might just miss out). Its a really interesting, if nostalgic and I think very interesting in the context of the Galaxies Greatest.

One of the things my favourite comic is very poor on is its track record with female creators. There has of course been some and for letterers we're spoiled, but writers and artists the record isn't so good. Is it just the talents not out there, well we know that's not the case, is the talent out there not interested in writing for 2000ad, seems strange if that is the case given one of its strengths is the apparent freedom it give creators, but who knows. Is it us lot, has the comic just become so male fan orientated that, that becomes a barrier? Is there other stuff I'm not thinking of and is it something we should be worrying about anyway? I personally think it is. One of tooth's strengths is its ability to run different and diverse stories in-between its covers and I'd love to see more female creators, not for their own sake, but as in the past its its really added a different voice to the comic...

...anyway christ listen to me going on its meant to be about this great interview.

Bleeding Cool has an article about another example of an artist knicking Brian Bolland's work

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/03/04/swipe-file-3/

If you follow the linkie to this fella's website you can see its not just Mr Bolland he brazenly steels from but a number of others including George Perez and quite surprisingly (given his mass appeal) Herge and some Disney characters. Surprised the lawyers haven't got onto that one yet!

General / The Beat does 2000ad
01 March, 2013, 10:23:29 PM
To mark the Galaxie's Greatest's 36th Anniversary The Beat does a really nice bit of coverage. Part introduction, part review.

http://comicsbeat.com/review-2000ad-1821-happy-anniversary-tharg/

Of course since he's not so sure about Red Seas the writers needs to be shouted at, but he's not a regular so I'll let him off, and he like the mighty Yeo-OWLS art so he's good.

Film & TV / Doctor Who - Season... Spring 2013
01 March, 2013, 11:07:09 AM
Not sure quite what how we're meant to number the season any more with all these half seasons and years of specials etc etc. Oh it used to be so much easier back in the day.

Anyway thought I'd start a new thread as all the old ones seems quite specific to particular things. The reason, well Bleeding Cool have this promo for the first part of the new... seasonish

Original article http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/02/28/doctor-who-promo-pic-for-the-next-episode-the-bells-of-st-johns-stuffed-with-monsters/

Have to say I'm not a fan of style of these new images. This one manages make Oswin... Clara, whomever (God there's another thing that used to be easier!) look terrible, which I have to say based on everything else I've seen of her must take quite some doing. Also when did The Doctor suddenly become Willy Wonker?

General / Is Megazine 322 becoming sort after?
22 February, 2013, 05:44:59 PM
Well according to Bleeding Cool it is. Apparently Snapshot 1 has sold out and is getting sort after, as much as $13 BUT the Meg has gone for $23 in one case.

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/02/22/speculatoir-corner-judge-dredd-megazine-322/

Teach me not to get the Meg!

So anyway here's a list of 10 of the best pairs of Superhero boots in comics. Which of 'our' 'heroes' makes the list, like you can't guess, but just to give you a clue, they ain't a superhero.

And yes I really read this type of stuff! And so will you when you know there's a mistake to be spotted...

Books & Comics / Al Ewing on Avengers Assemble
14 February, 2013, 04:20:44 PM
Not heard talk of this, but looks like Mr Ewing has made the big time at last... well assuming you think Marvel is the big time. I've lost track of my Avengers titles so not sure quite where Avengers Assemble fits into things but this being an Age of Ultron cross-over it must be a fairly high profile title?

QuoteAVENGERS ASSEMBLE #15AU
AL EWING (W) • BUTCH GUICE (A)
Cover by NIC KLEIN
AGE OF ULTRON TIE-IN
ULTRON RULES OK! The AGE OF ULTRON hits Britain, and Captain Britain hits back with a little help from his friends - including a vacationing Captain Marvel! Fighting a guerilla war in the ruins of London, AGGRO! is a way of life for Avengers UK - but when they might just be the last super heroes left alive, can there still be hope? Or is England dreaming?
32 PGS./Rated T+ ...$3.99

And he gets to write Captain Britain who has to be on everyone list of characters to work with.

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=43749 for the full list of Marvel books.

Edited to add: Oh he's doing the issue before this as well a quick check has revealed, is this a case of me being slow on the up take then...
