Should Disaster 1990 be on its own - should it just be wrapped into Invasion? Well sod it, it's two late and I'll take ya like a swan if you disagree... this one basically comes down to which shotgun you prefer I guess?

Look I love Space Spinner 2000, I really do but DON'T listen to them when it comes to Kola Kommandos, it's a great thrill, so go read it yourself... I mean with this draw you may have time before next round to!

Okay, okay I know already - but if you go look at the thread linked to below that explains all this I make an excuse as to why BtGB is here... look if you don't approve just vote for Project Overkill and we won't have to worry about it again!

As we ended week one - so we begin week two and so a quick copy and paste later... These two feel evenly matched... but maybe not for the right reasons! Two thrills I don't think will appear on many peoples 10 ten lists - but how do they fare against each other?

Round 1 might require you get your thrill-banks tuned up as we drag some lesser lights of Tharg's Thrillverse out - though there are some stonking series in here it has to be said. And even when there's not, most of the ties offer some intriguing conundrums at least.

Prog / Prog 2255 - Hag Reflex!
23 October, 2021, 08:52:28 PM
The Prog hits the Regened next week and so we get one of this end not end Progs. Three thrills - kinda - end and two go into a break.

Dredd The Hard Way ends and its gone from the moment it does really. I mean its not bad, in fact it was great fun, but its no more than that. Maitland's final "We're going to make the Red Queen pay..." line is all action  movie forboding ... but not real forboding.

Diaboliks kinda ends really well and then plays straight into the next story which will present what Solomon Ravne has been up. It ends the present story really well, with a clink of light for Jennifer. The problem with the cliffhangers it uses to pull into the next story is when see Ravne
lying victim on the floor
I'm kinda glad not worried cos he is such a dick!... mind looking forward to seeing how it all got there so its worked!

So there we have it, after 3 months and Tharg knows how many votes and ties we have a winner and  THE KILLING has been voted the Board's favourite Strontium Dog story. And what a magnificent champion it is, well deserving of its prize.

But I want to stop for a second and take this right back to why I did this one now, while before it had been buried in a long list of tourney's to get to and that is of course Bolt-01, Dave Evans a simply wonderful man who we have lost.

That makes me sad and I miss Dave. I have no idea if he'd have liked the weaving path I wove with this silly tourney as I tried my best to mark the fun, wit and wisdom he brought to this place. I have no idea if this is a fitting tribute, but it's best I could come up with, to spend some time talking about a strip that meant so much to him.

I deliberately made it ridiculously complex (well I'm not sure what my options were!) as it represented that life is just the same. That we don't always understand what is going on, but if we reach out and talk to those around us we can find an answer, and hopefully it's the answer we need.... or at least an answer to just give us enough to carry on to the next thing.

Dave loved this place, that much I do know, or at least he told me several times. And so talking about the things he loved, in the place he loved was the best I had to offer. Let's keep doing that here and make this place one great tribute to Dave, who gave us so much.

Let's keep talking about something, and nothing. But let's keep talking to each other.

I miss you Bolt-01. I miss you Dave.

So as you may have come to expect - or dread - as one tourney ends, so the prep to get another started begins and next up we have one I've wanted to do from the start, has been delayed for a whole host of reasons and well now feels like the right time.

It's going to be the BIGGEST yet.

It's NOT going to have all the convoluted nonsense. It's going to be back to the purity of straight one to one knockouts. No faffing, no qualifying (well kinda due to the number of thrills there's a wonky first round), no seeding (again see last bracketed comment) and just dead straight forward. AND if the title hasn't given it away its going to be

Favourite Series.

Simple as that.

I'll use this thread to introduce things. Explain a couple of bits (though most of this is done) and as ever explain the rules for what they are.

Hopefully not too much to say so this might be quite brief and all being well we might even get started next Monday - I'll see how things go...

#479
YES - it's here, what all this over complicated nonsense has boiled down to. What qualifying, play-offs (what the chuff was going on there???) and all those groups where no one knew which they had or hadn't voted for, all of that was for THIS.

The two Strontium Dog stories, featuring Johnny Alpha that are the most popular - EVER - battle it out to determine which rules supreme. I've learnt from this there is little point predicting these things, so I'm just going to sit back, watch and see what happens as we celebrate these two magnificent thrills.

As ever all you need to worry about is which of the following you prefer:

The Killing - more info

Rage - more info

EXTRA TIME - Just to make sure we have planned for extra time and penalties this one ends early on the morning of Saturday 23rd October and the winner ... well they lift the Bolt-01 Cup

... there's a spreadsheet to make following easier... if you fancy. If not, don't worry just VOTE!!!!

I've tried to explain the finals here.

What on Earth is ALL of this?

Why on Tharg's Earth head are we doing this?

Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN!

Oh and my 'More info' links... well I don't say how much more and they get pretty wonky at times!
#480
We need to warm up for the final and what better way to do it than the misery of a 3rd place play-off. Already crushed by defeat in the semi's we drag out the two teams defeated there and make them go through the rigmarole of another tie to determine something that none of us really care about. Made worse by the fact that the thrill that finishes 4th - a magnificent achievement when you think of some of the (better!) stories that didn't make it - ends the tourney with two straight defeats - what a misery.

BUT I'm doing it anyway as this tie exemplifies the surprises this tourney has had for me, as I expected neither to get this far. I always knew Outlaw was held in much higher regard by must than by me, but by this much?!?! AND lets face it Portrait was always destined for the final, surely???

As ever all you need to worry about is which of the following you prefer:
