Totally rotten. Like a nice wrap of all those cringy things non-comics readers jump to when you tell them you love comics. A series totally dominated by flat smug 2d acting spouting lines Whedon is recycling for the nth time. All these impossibly pretty people failing to deliver anything other than mistimed 'quips'. If this was a comic it would be one nobody here would read.

This is really a lovely edition. The oversized art is stupendous. The design work on extra pages is magnificent. Nobody should hesitate in buying this.

Whatever happened to ThreeA? Seems 2000ad has been wiped from their forums. Anyone any news?

Read this last night, first time since the prog run. Absolutely magnificent from first to last. Ewing's potboiler Ellroy Dredd is fantastic and yeilds up smiles at every turn. Read as a whole it takes it all to another level. Beautiful hardback too, would love the Wagner stuff to come out in a hardback option.

DHP - Dom Reardon has just shown up. That was a surprise. Can't say the script was that interesting (groan at the true-true stuff at the start, WTF at the 'video boys throwdown' at the end but still it looked great.

Disappointment of the week was A1 - a comic that appears to have nothing in common with its 1989 predecessor. The whole thing read of DHP filler material and Dave Elliot trading on his name to get stuff into print. Shame.

Sex 1 - 3 was just about the worst comic I've read since the trite gubbins of Punk Rock Seamus. Its grasping in it's dullness. Another despondent 1% grapples with post-modern ennui... yawn yawn yawn yawn yawn. At least Robbie Morrison's Ms Fury has fun with being the global elite and Juniper's Berries has lovely Quietly art to tell the exact same tale as Sex.  I re-read the original Black Kiss last week, I mean at least its a good looking comic pretending to be about sex in order to sell, 'Sex' doesn't even manage that.

The Manhattan Projects #12 was all kinds of excellent and the new print of Numbercruncher is magnificent.

Saw the movie version of Radio Free Albemuth at the Belfast Film Festival. It was pretty good, straight retelling of the book with no stupid 'creative' license taken. On the down side the SFX were total bobbins. There is a kickstarter to get it a US (then worldwide) release for those that like all things PKD.

Its all a big scam see, the faux conflict, the 100 quid price tag... we're all part of a GM meta Futureshock, drawn by the great Belardinelli..

(I'm saving up now).

As the person who brought this up can I say that not only is AE gracious and entertaining as ever but I also have not, nor would, make any accusations about his politics out of the appearance of this word.

However go to Temple in New Jersey and ask if its offensive and the outcome would be pretty clear.

I don't object to the word appearing in art - it does so in Roth and also in The Big Lebowski. But in those instances it is used to make a point / joke about anti-Semitism. In The Big Lebowski when Walter says it to 'The Big Lebowski' its a pointed joke - Walter has claimed to be jewish the whole movie but here he is invoking an anti-Semitic term. It also makes clear how stupid Walter is because he reaches for the word to slur his foe (The Big Lebowski) while forgetting that what prompts him to the insult (the Jewish name) is the same as that of his best friend (The Dude). In Zombo it just appears tossed in there as a general work-shy reference and that makes it stand out to me and to others who may well find such casual use offensive.

It may well be that my reaction to it comes from my time in the NE US Jewish community and that UK audiences have no cultural memory of the term but my mileage is indeed 'different'. I may be the only 2000AD reader to have found the term offensive but I'm certainly not the only person who considers it a very loaded term.

On the flip side, as I have said, I have absolutely no wish to insult or impute ill on the reputation of Al Ewing nor imply he knew of this offensive meaning. I would also hate to think that this would impact on the inventive wordplay of Al Ewing and other 2000AD writers, which is always one of the strengths of the comic.

I posted as I was pretty taken aback when I read it plus I do think that its reprint in the States, where Zombo seems to have quite a profile, may raise more eyebrows.

Steve Parkhouse should have been the heir to the Cam Kennedy 'Citizens' Dredd stories. His lugubrious schlubby 'Ordinary Joe' characters is always a joy and is very much in the Kennedy-mould.

Plus, ya know, he just has a beautiful line that so few comic artists are equipped with.

'Goldbrickers'

Really?

Thats a tad unfortunate. You might want to ensure it doesn't make any reprints.
