The regular IDW series comes across as an 'all ages' comic to me. If that finds a market thats great. Backing it up with a run of interesting limited series (Year One, City of Courts) and the Colour Reprints as well as the Artist collections - pretty impressive effort to kick the door down on the US market.

I'm not a great fan of the regular comic but I'm certainly done with complaining that its not 'Dredd'.

Eh?

We're buying Warpaint again?

Can I have my 'test money' back please.

ffs.

I guess you missed the Simon Davis 'man cut in half with his forehead lopped off' Stone Island cover.

I liked it. If I was 12 I'd think it was the most awesome thing ever.

Film & TV / Re: Doctor Who - Season... Spring 2013

Everythings is too fast and too shallow. Its more like Mike Reid's Runaround than Dr Who. Much as I like this Doctor the scripts and format of the show are killing it. Multi-part stories, deeper characters, more suspense, more terror, less singing please.

Prog / Re: PROG 1826 DISAPPEAR HERE!

i must be the only reader who finds Zombo boring. Book 1 was brilliant, book 2 had a nice conceit but started to bore me with just too many cultural reference gags i could care less about and book 3 ramped that up. Four is heading the same way. Beatles jokes? Really? Al Ewings musical joke stuff just leaves me cold, far better the sly references like Bird House In Your Soul from Dredd than flat out jokes that sound like they came from The Huddliners in 1986. Okay, thats harsh, The Million Pound Radio Show in 1996. (Actually the best part of this series so far sounded just like The Dark Lord on Elvenquest).

Zombo was a great character but the surrounding world detracts from the strip. His character works when the world is dangerous but the people relatively 'normal' and he goes around asking to eat them... when his surroundings are insanity and staffed by characters like obmoz etc then Zombo becomes an instrument to tell the story not a unique central character.

everything else in the Prog was great, Dandridge being so much better in the hands of its original artist. but yeah, much as its good to see a talented new art droid... those broken shoulders on Dredd (cover and pg 1).. yuck.

ps - the PSI being muslim, think that was established in her previous appearance - some friction between her and Dredd about PSIs being allowed faith-based principles that ordinary judges are not.

Bloody hell. This Comic is actually cursed, right?

Hope they'll put the missing episodes of Warpaint etc up on the net or something. Pulped editions are a bit tricky in sequential anthologies.

Not really seen much about this but its very good - Via the Newstand app is a (bi-monthly, really more like bi-annual) UK digital comics magazine - seems to cover whats happening in digital comics with a slant on UK producers.  Has some hack called 'Holden' doing these 'Grifter's 101' tutorials (rather good) as well as some free actual comics (the publisher seems to also do apps for UK talent like Hunt Emerson and Eddie Campbell).

Pretty Damm fine.

7 never showed up in FP here. They tend to know as much about it as they do International Trade Law.

I'll keep on trying to get it for the number of Irish and 2000AD folk involved but I can't say that its been anything like professionally handled.

With MediaFire, AcesWeekly, Titan's new range, the return of AI and the Phoenix all chasing the UK comics consumer pound  Strip is up against a lot of competition that requires its regularity to come good and fast.

I simply don't get the praise for Dredd. None of the character development stuff is in any way convincing - The Sov's defection, Dredd's endorsement, Hershey's passivity, the sentence to return the ambassador (which made sense in itself but why the word of a defecting judge holds sway is baffling). I don't want to slam creative people but yet again I read 'this' Dredd and am convinced I'm reading something aimed at 12 year olds. I simply don't see any of the deftness, subtly, anger, cynicism or realism that others have brought to the character and have made it the modern classic.

Books & Comics / Re: New Comic Book Day Megathread

East of West seems fairly standard Heavy Metal Sci-fi fare. The only part that really stuck out was the joke of 'why are there only 3 of you?'. Its good, but TPB good, not 'must buy now' good.

Bonus marks for the impressive 'leg shot' page tho. Who doesn't like framing a a full page panel through a nicely turned heel and set of pins.

great looking line-up.

Fantastic first issue. Lets hope this is the first of many Dredd mini-series that IDW put in the hands of those who know what to do with the property. Interestingly it really emphasises that the main IDW series is much more of a kids comic than the Dredd we've been lunching on. If having both approaches works for them then that can only be great for all things 2000AD.

I've not done a page count with this run of American Reaper but for the first book the page count of comics in the Meg was expanded without any increase in cost.

Of course if you don't want extra free pages fine.

Thought the Meg was great this time out. Now get Wagner back in the prog so we can get away from the dross Dredd of late.

7/100 here.

these are lovely. Great production values, PJ's Rogue was the pick.

20000ad should commission you to do a series, as they are cracking and you've proven you have the production chops.

Stop it. The more we high light it to them the more likely they will pull it.

THIS.

good lord emailing amazon is the stupidest thing you can do. Their prices are from an XML feed from publishers lists and unless they get (1) 1000000 orders too many or (2) somebody stupid enough to tell them what is happening then they wont notice it... just like they didnt notice the Rian Hughes book last month.

if they fxxking pull this now after 4 months then your buying me my damm copy. gurr.
