Announcements / Re: 3A Toys/Rebellion Press Release

HI TV, can you point me to where i said that?

what i DO know is that a few years ago it was certainly 3A policy that he had to sign off on the final packaged product before they shipped. Its his call whether it goes out or needs reworked. that appliees to all ThreeA goods. whether this is still the case ive no idea.

one might suppose that as hes in reciept of a Dredd in Packaging its ready to roll, however one might also postulate that that Dredd in the picture  was from the packaging error Dredd batch and he caught the problem. we have no idea.

ThreeA's only official photography is done by Ashley Woods. He lives in Australia far from the production site. They never release production photos after the promotional photos are done. Sketches - Blurries - Sales Pics - Pictures from conventions. That's it.

They have explained that the ordering system (bambaland) isn't set up to create / harvest email lists so they can't batch email people on any particular order. Maybe they'll change that on the next build of their ordering site but for now it is what it is.

This post-Prog 2000 run is just golden. 5 top art droids delivering different styles and all producing superb stuff, strong stories mixing old characters and new, top notch covers...

Hardly a need for a weekly review, just weekly praise.

Really?

I'd say being called 'a sycophant' and being accused of running to 3A and 'telling tales' (when all I posted was people here were getting annoyed and was there any firm shipping date we could get to them) is all fairly out of order for this forum.

I would add that thenoon cut and pasted my post here on the 3A forum and started objecting to it  accusing me of 'bitching' and hating him. Heyho.

I'd also point out all i stated was that there was no basis for saying 3A were 'blown out of the water' by Mezco. And there still isn't. Indded in his comments since asking him for a firm date Gregory has stated that 3A did look at a specific company's bodies and it wasn't Mezco.

Im a newbie - IDWs Judge Dredd Mega City Zero was the first Dredd comic i read (10 months ago more or less). It was good enough to get me interested in the character that I bought a couple of case files to read more of the character, and now im hooked! I now have the first 14 case files, America, The dead man etc. (Not to mention a few volumes of rogue and strontium, and recently purchased Kingdom, Jaeger, and Glimmer rats!) Im addicted to everything 2000 ad! So i can thank IDW for that - the only problem is i no lounger enjoy the IDW dredd as much, as it feels like a hollow comparison to the real thing.

Fairly astounding levels of personal abuse aimed at me by theToon and techno Viking. I trust the mods are on the case.

But let's stick to what I objected to...

There is zero evidence for an 'assumption' that 3A's were 'blown out of the water' by Mezco's Dredd. But if spouting that is your idea of support for the one shot we have at a line of obscure 2000ad figures like Sam Slade and The Gronk then cool.

Do you use the 3A forums? Greg is pretty prompt at replying to people there. If there is a delay down to the design team he gives the reason. If its await final approval from Ash he says so.

When it gets to the production line thats a chinese factory without anyone really familar to speaking english and they clearly have their own schedual for production based on a myriad of factors.

3A treat 2000AD no differently to their own lines - its done when its done and its up to standard. I've waited longer for their own lines than I have 20000AD stuff. And yes their own lines are niche - they are pretty open about selling more 'female' figures because it funds their own niche lines. Female figures have a large market, Robots have a smaller but strong market, weird made up Ashley Woods characters have a niche market. But compared to Transformers, Marvel and DC licences or sexy female figures 2000AD is the nichest of the niche.

We should be honest, outside of Dredd 2000AD merch has zero public recognition. Even huge comic fans in the N.American market would be pushed to tell you more than 2 or 3 characters and certainly none of their main stories or key elements. That 3A makes this stuff is astounding, that they knock it out of the park every time is something we should appreciate. The wait and the delays.... unavoidable. Make peace with it cause there is nothing you can do about it. You don't want an ucler either be zen or don't buy. But don't blame, I honestly think its incredible they commit such effort to such a niche zero-profit thing.

I can only assume Mezco Dredd knocked 3A's original Dredd design for six. We are ALL going to compare them as soon as we get our grubby mitts on 3A's. If its piss poor its hard to come back from.
Despite the delays and lack of direct communication we need to keep supporting 3A if we ever want to see the likes of Rogue, Halo Jones, Kano etc.

If they give us good figures I'll put up with a lot.

Why would you assume that? I think Mezco's Dredd is 'not very good' but I don't go on about it on the forums because lots of people take joy from it. But if you use it to start shitting on the efforts of 3A then I'm going to take exception.

3A have given us plenty of examples of their 2000AD work now (4 1/6 figures, 5 1/12 figures) and they have all been top notch. Is anyone disappointed by these things in hand?

3A's delays are down to it being a small company that needs to produce commerical items to fund its niche pursuits. 2000AD is the nichest of pursuits out there. They don't deserve anyone levelling 'assumptions' that their initial work was 'knocked for six' when there is zero evidence past or present to support that.

An artist who always made it look so effortless and a great great talent whose pages brought much joy.

Sympathy to all who knew him better and will be feeling his absence.

Thanks from a fan.

Ireland is always portrayed as fairly liberal from the basis of Garth Ennis' 'the irish don't give a fxxk long as there is drink' perspective. The UK in Dredd and Armitage seems fairly liberal to allow all those 'oh the english are so quirky' type things. Naturally both have had 'lax facade leads to iron fist usurping power' scenarios with MC's recent slew into both focusing on brutish regimes and real politic.

Oz too was pretty liberal.

Rebellion ain't going to throw away all those bucks from the 'uncensored' version on a 3rd party release. And nor would we want them to... rather Rebellion get the money than Hachette.

Also interesting that Medivac 318 is getting a reprint. Wasn't Hilary Robinson's work under ownership dispute? I wonder if a deal has been done or if this is a case of the Zeniths? Lets see.

One can only hope about Luke Kirby.

Don't quote me but I think it was just Zippy Couriers (lovely art) that was in dispute as characters in it had appeared prior to 2000AD.

I hope they do a smaller Anderson too, at some point. I actually thought she was coming in that range.

Back when they relaunched the range (after the license fiasco) they talked about 6 figures coming - Dredd, Death, Anderson, Hammerstein, Rogue and another (sov judge?). I don't think it was Sam but Sam duly appeared. All that chat seems to have ceased, they clearly have hit a wall with Hammerstein because they've been working on him for 3 years and there is no mention thesedays. The dark judges as a thing seemed to spiral as soon as Death went on sale - imagine that was a sign of good numbers and they had the uniforms already sorted to a degree. Since then we're all over the shop with Gronk n Fish, Mongrol (RMX) coming out of nowhere and names like Giant and Alpha being mentioned as close.

To me they are great 2000AD items and Greg does an admirable job on limited resources but i'd agree that some of their decisions are a tad strange. Dredd 1/6 before sending out the 1/12 of a year ago is simply wrong. They need to get Dredd 1/12 out the door yesterday and then people will be a lot happier and confident in their investments.

How/where/from whom did they get the information about his whereabouts and condition?

The girl says they staked out every clinic in the city. They 'figured' Dredd was due a treatment.

Must have been long-term readers of this forum!

Yes its reliable (provided the toy supplier doesn't go bust in the meantime like 1/6th Bruce did).

Its more expensive tho as you'll have shipping and who knows where the pound will be by then (even more in the crapper is a good guess).

I'm 3AA so I get the discount but I'll confess one has to be very zen about their rhetoric vs delivery. On the up side if you've paid for it all upfront then you have 'no' cost when it arrives. Whereas deposit-schemes will front you a bill further down the line.

We can all get angry about 3A's slow pace but lets remember (1) they are a 3 man and a dog operation when it comes to 2000AD line (2) the product IS great (3) support it or it dies.. no ifs and buts... no crying down the line that nobody made a Joe Pineapples bot or whatever... 3A is pretty much the only game in town due the face 2000AD merch is incredibly niche.
