Started off not too bad, if a little generic, and then it just disappeared up its arsehole after the 'twist', getting all mopey and going off into being some other type of film altogether - just not a clever or interesting one, in my opinion.  It all seems in retrospect to be a film made because once upon a time:
"What would a real superhero guy do?  I bet he'd tell some guy he was gonna stick some other guy's head up that guy's ass - but he'd totally literally do it for real!"
"Holy fucking shit, dude - you totally need to write that shit down!"
"Already taken care of, buddy - the guy who wrote and produced Batman and Robin offered me two mil!"

Mind you, at least unlike Heroes, the crew of Hancock haven't tried to convince us they've never heard of Superman or something.  I wouldn't say it was a bad film or anything, just a bit aimless and not terribly engaging.

With all the pseudo-wierd stuff, I had an inkling Crispy was someone from Bad Company (Kano?), but Peter Milligan is too high-profile for 2000ad these days, I would have thought.  Or possibly on an exclusive contract with someone, as seems to be the rage with American comics at the minute.

Like the Vort so far, although for some reason, I have no idea what the E-Mag is.

That's pretty much it, Jim.
There's no specific era from which to draw inspiration, or any guidelines to what it has to be.  Just take something from popular culture and 2000ad-ify it, creating what (in your opinion) looks like a potential series, or - and I admit that I suspect this as being far more likely - take the piss.
I merely drew upon the spirit of 2000ad of old (when the 'inspiration' for stuff like MACH 1 wasn't exactly hard to spot) to give you an idea, not to tie you to any specific period or style.  It can be a cover, a promo image, a sequence of panels, or even an actual pitch, as I don't see any reason writers can't get involved with a competition about ideas.  Okay, the 'art' bit of 'art competition' might be a sticking point, but where's the harm?  It's only a bit of fun.
You can do quite a lot with any given starting point - Synnamon was apparantly 'hard science fiction in the style of Iain Banks' according to Tharg himself, so you can take 2001, bung in a leather-clad slapper with a comedy talking robot sidekick in the grand tradition of Rob Schneider and Bob's your uncle - instant 2000ad classic for the ages.
You can even just come up with tag lines for old strips if you want.  As you can tell, I still find 'In the style of Iain Banks' hysterical, and would probably buy that t-shirt.

God, I can't think of anything.  So I'll go the easy route of the first thing that popped into my head: "Wherever Do You Get Your Ideas?"
From looking at promo art and blurb for upcoming series (or stuff that's appeared in 2000ad in the past) and thinking "looks like Hellblazer/Bad Boys/LXG/Matrix/X-Files/Pirates Of The Carribean/Underworld to me", the compo is to take an existing property and come up with a 'coming soon' picture promoting the 2000ad equivalent - basically, pretend it's 2000ad's early days and you've just been asked by Tharg to come up with something based on a currently popular tv show or film (ET=Skizz/Pulp Fiction=Sinister/Dexter/X-Files=Vector 13, and so on).
The only rule is that you have to tell us where you got the idea if we can't guess ourselves.

Huzzah!  So cool to have won when the esteemed competition was so good.
Thanks to everyone who voted.  Dead chuffed at this, even if life imitated art a little - of which we do not speak.

Bit stumped for a follow-up competition idea, but I'll have a ponder...

A bit hard to tell if Im just so sick of RTDisms that I will latch onto anything by Moffat and believe it to be fantastic.  All the same, this episode seemed a lot better than usual, undone by an unnecessary final scene that RTD has been quick to point out he never insists on putting into Moffats scripts.  What an odd thing to point out in an interview, thinks I.
Although - all of time and space and every woman in creation to pick from and he ends up with her off ER.  Id cry too.

Remakes are for a newer audience who shouldn't have to subject themselves to watching anything that doesn't have bang up to date tech and fashions.  That's why Escape From New York is such a shit film - no celphones or internet, emo streetgangs, My Chemical Romance soundtrack, Snake isn't played by Stone Cold Steve Austin, and at no point does he shoot a harpoon gun into the back of a speeding truck so he can ski up a famous New York street on a taxi door while shooting down a jet fighter with a bow and arrow.

The sooner these films are all remade so people can talk through them in the cinema, the better off we'll all be.

Survivors was also remade as Not With A Bang, with Josie Lawrence and Stephen Ree - although that wasn't as funny as Survivors.
