General / It's my birthday tomorrow.
08 January, 2003, 06:44:35 AM
On 9th Janauary I'll be 35.

And to quote Mat Johnson

Another year over and what have I done,
All my aspirations have been shriveled in the sun,
I've been cripled by guilt and blinded by science,
I've been waiting for tomorrow all my life.

Thank you.

General / Highlights of 2002
09 December, 2002, 06:22:20 AM
Comics in general but specifically 2000AD.

What makes your hit list and what makes your shit list?

Comic highlighs for me have to be the Spider-Man movie as well as the Spiderman: Blue series from Marvel. If you havn't read this yet I suggest getting the collected volume when it's published (next year I should imagine).

Also up there is DK2. I know this has been knocked from here to high town but I really enjoyed this. The only thing that let it down was the colouring from Lynn (I'll have a go at computer colouring, now what was that Photoshop thinggy you were talking about) Varley. sheeshh what a mess. If she had have hand coloured the books a la Dark Knight or Electra Lives Again it would have been fantastic instead of just good.

The League of Ext Gents is also a must!!

2000AD's biggest event I think will be the Dredd/Alien story. It hasn't happened yet, but I think that's gonna kick ass.

Anyway, just a thought.

As for the shit list, well I guess Bison is gonna get trashed by you boarders. I can take it or leave it.

Outside 2000AD there was a Spider-Man series by John McRea and Garth Ennis earlier in the year - MAN THAT SUCKED!!!

So... anyone else want to add to this.

General / If you are going to DreddCon.....
29 November, 2002, 07:05:17 AM
Would it be possible for anyone attending DreddCon to do a write up for ximoc.co.uk - due to family comitments I am unable to go (sob!) and would really like a personal viewpoint of the event.

If you can get a few photos as well that would be great.

I can't offer any payment (the site is just a hobby at the moment) but I will send you a ximoc.co.uk t-shirt (to wear at the event) and I'll try and dig up something else (how about a Spider-Man bill poster - quite rare and really nice!)

Any takers?

Just email ximoc.co.uk (link below) with details.

Cheers

General / Dredd movie
18 November, 2002, 06:20:04 AM
Still like it.

Biggest problem is that during Dredds trial no one thought to ask him where he was at the time of the murder.

I would imagine that a Judges location is known to Justice Dep[artment at any given time, through some sort of tracking device on the Judge (or whatever).

All Dredd had to say was 'I was on duty in sector 123 etc...'
Justice department computers would comfirm this and Dredd would go free.

It's just stupid that noboday asked this, some defence Hershy was (although Diane Lane is a FOX!!!).

Just a thought

Read this on Hollywood Reporter.com and not sure if we know this already.

Is this a development or a rehash of old news???

2000 AD comic strip rights acquired
Oct. 31, 2002

LONDON -- A group of British investors said Wednesday that they have picked up the rights to characters and story lines from the comic strip library 2000 AD for the development of screenplays and live-action films. The group, which obtained the rights for an undisclosed sum, aims to develop features based on the Britain-based comic books, whose characters include Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog and Rogue Trooper. Working under the banner 2000 AD Films, the group's management team comprises Jason and Christopher Kingsley, co-founders of U.K. computer games company Rebellion. Andrew Curtis, the founding partner of media law firm Drew & Co. Solicitors, is a partner in the venture. Also on board is film financier and production executive Daniel Figuero ("The Scarlet Tunic").
