Don't mind it at all.

Are we getting a reworked theme tune too?

Ah yes... Lawman of the Future... I forgot what it was called.

That Dredd/Death strip in it really was good... if anyone has original art from it or knows where to get some, let me know.

The thing that pissed me right off* was
they randomly kick Kirk off the ship onto the nearest planet and he just happens to land about 20 feet from Spock who then handily explains everything
Or did I miss a logical reason for this massive coincidence?

*and Im not even that into Trek.

It's very Trekbabble but the reason
the massive coincidence with Kirk/original Spock is apparently down to time tryig to correct itself after Nero ballsed everything up by travelling back and changing things.

It's time/reality/the universe/whatever trying to get everything back to normal (or as close to normal) by forceing events to make the correction.
Or something like that.

The scene explaining it was cut from the final film but could have done with being left in because that's a hell on a coincidence.

I found Pegg as Scotty more a distraction than anything else... If I didn't know who he was I'd probably have accepted him like I accepted the rest of the cast.

No idea where he is but I really liked his stuff too.

He did a great Dredd/Death in the kids comic that came out after the film.

I'd love to see him do Dredd again.

Also loved this and will get the DVD on release.

The first ten mins alone is some of the best Star Trek put to film.

Just hope they can keep it up in the following films, which, depending on what you read, will have Harry Mudd.

I'm guessing Khan is going to make an appearance by the time of the third film.

It's very good but not what you might expect from a Pixar film.

Looking forward to seeing it again on it's general release.

Robocop 3 was on telly a while ago and it looks like a TV movie... how the hell did that get made???

I generally can't stand kids in 'adult' films as they generally turn out to be just very annoying, like that little brat in robocop 3 and that whiney wee bitch in Aliens... urgh!

Although I did like Robert Burke as Murphy and disappointed the Nancy Allen got killed as I quite fancy her and I don't like to see wimmen I fancy in films get killed off.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with the remake and further sequels if it turns out to be popular.

I don't think your argument holds much water though. Irrespective of the quality, wasn't Sandman's impact and popularity largely down to the extent to which it drew in a non comics reading audience?

My surefire path for gettin a non-reader into comics would be: Asterix -> DR & Quinch's Guide to Life -> Leviathan -> The Mighty Kev -> Everything else.

Ypu may be right about sandman. I can only speak from my own experience. I spent many years trying to subtly influence my colleagues into reading comics. Truth is, they wouldn't touch Sandman. Threw all the cliched 'pretentious' insults at it. Got a good few with Preacher though. This may speak more to the kind of people I was working with than the merits of the books, I don't know.

All that aside, Preacher/Sandman isn't an either/or for me. I enjoyed them both immensely.

I've found a couple of times now that Hate has worked batter than Watchmen as the gateway comic of choice. The people I gave Watchmen too struggled a little with the Superhero thing while trying to work out how to read comics. Were as Hate was something storywise they related to much easier and so they could concentrate more on relearning how to read comcis.

Agreed.. an old girlfriend of mine absolutly loved HATE but never even hinted at the slightest interest in any other comic... it was if HATE was the only comic ever produced.

Almost every time I seen her her first question to me was 'is there a new HATE out yet?'

If I had have given her Watchmen to read I'm sure she would have given me funny looks wondering why I had a comic that feature a blue guy with his knob out all the time!!

Aw don't be like that Ump! I'm away for the weekend but can have a look when I get back if you like OR you could email Carl and ask him to choose three that are his faves and ask him why they're special to him. That'd be cool!

By the way, mine came on Thursday and they're frikkin' gorgeous. I'll post 'em up on Monday.

Might just do that Pete!

19 September, 2009, 02:29:47 AM
Not sure what to make of this. I'll say I felt something, not quite stuck to the chair more a feeling of I had no desire to get up.

After about ten seconds of that I thought.. oh for fucks sake just stand up.

And I did.

So, big fake or genuine hypnogoggins... you decide.

I am always sceptical of stuff like this onn the telly, it's just open to so much manipulation and you can't really take it all at face value.

Was this supposed to be broadcast live??

Was that really people calling in live to tell of thair experiences.

I think not.

I do like Derren Brown but this (and last week) smacks of set up, more about good telly than mentalisam.

It's when he throws in stuff like 'it wont work on youtube' kinda thing makes me think, well, why not! Explane yourself.

All in all, enjoyable and interesting but did he really stick anyone to their seat.. I don't think so.

Although I'm sure attention seekers will tell everyone how it all worked on them, for, you know... the attention.

Help! / Help required picking Carl Critchlow pages...
18 September, 2009, 10:53:26 AM
In response to the recent thread telling us about Carl selling off Dredd pages I dropped him an email.

He has quite a bit for sale and I'm keen to buy a few pages BUT... I've never seen the stories in print so don't know which pages would be a good buy (lots of Dredd action I'm looking for).

So hive mind.. I call on you to choose four or five pages for me to pick two or three to purchase.

If you can post images of the suggested pages then all the better.

The pages Carl has for sale are:
All the pages from 'Backlash', 'Under New Management' and the last Lobster Random story 'The Forgetme Knot' are still available so far, apart from Backlash Pt1 pg2 & Pt3 pg5 and Pt4 pg1.

Now I don't know which of these are Dredd stories so I'm putting my faith in the great Hive to pick out a few crackers for me!

Cheers in advance.

Oh yes... and Akira.

It hurts my head just thinking about the amount of work that went into the artwork!

Worth a re-read soon I think.

I must have missed the meeting telling me all about how good Preacher is 'cause I don't rate it at all.

You mention Dillons art, I found it more Dillon lite.

Steve Dillon has done some brilliant comic art (just about every Dredd he did was top drawer stuff) but Preacher isn't one of them. I'm convinced he cut back on the detail to meet the monthly deadlines.

A better comic with better art... I'd rate The Dark Knight Returns, Peter Bagges HATE, Sterenko on Nick Fury, Alan Moores Swamp Thing, Love and Rockets, Born Again among others above Preacher.

But I understand it's all subjective and each to their own.

Didn't buy the Meg when it was in that, wanted to wait until it was in it's own book.

Looking forward to it and to more new TG material from Team Tank..

Have you been picking up the Tank Girl Remastered volumes?

Not yet but will, maybe as a crimbo treat as we're rapidly heading towards the festive season... reading material for the time off work.

And I think Titan will be doing the trade of the Megs TG's.
