Oh and all you folks who voted Strontium Dog do you want to make Simon sad after all the joy he's given us, do you. Huh?

Its not too late to change your vote!

I love how, in all of these competitions, we pretty much know exactly which side Colin is cheering on from the get-go.  Though, given we are all openly voting, that's true of everyone else too.

For those playing at home, the hive-mind tally so far:

287 pages of content
+14 title pages
+  5 covers
+12 JD 2012 Christmas story (which would be a brilliant addition, and up the Dredd content)
----
318
----

The book's 320 pages.  That only leaves two pages for all the framework around it.

If the layout falls the right way, there is no need to intersperse the stories with those black pages they use to ensure the stories start on the correct page and any double page spreads or other cross-page shenanigans aren't back to back instead of side by side.

But even if that all fit together okay, then two pages wouldn't be enough.  One page for contents. One page for copyright and address blather.  But you still need a page with the writers and artists CVs, and they'll probably add an introduction explaining what Dice Man was and how it came about, etc.

It could fit if the covers were reproduced only as, say, small illustrations dotted around the intro, but I think it's more likely Christmas Dredd won't be included.  As fitting as it is, it wasn't part of Dice Man.

A question I sometimes ponder is how much my interest in 2000AD is encouraged by the fact it's still a current, ongoing publication.  It doesn't matter how long ago the reprints are from, they are still part of the live, moving stream that is 2000AD.  I wonder if it had got cancelled and was finite, and (after awhile) something of years past, whether I would be as into it and enthused.

"Where did you get these from?"
"My cupboard!"
"What?"
"I said, from Mike Hubbard!"

Roy of the Rovers: The Best of the 1980s Volume 2 : Dream Team - Paperback, 8th June 2023, 176 pages.

"The 'Gold' Generation!

Melchester Rovers' reign of the 80s continues! As the team surges forward towards a Milk Cup final, they are undoubtedly the best in the country. But this hasn't stopped some discontent behind the scenes. With cricket legend Geoff Boycott acting as chairman for the club and Roy bringing veteran keeper Bob Wilson and Liverpool legend Emlyn Hughes back into the game, many fans and critics are questioning Roy's managerial decision-making. And now Roy is about to sign Steve Norman and Martin Kemp from the hit-making pop group, Spandau Ballet - they may be worth their weight in gold as musicians, but can they perform on the pitch?"

My favourite strip in The Phoenix was Planet of the Shapes.  They said it would be back.  They said...  : (

The listing shows the writers and artists as Pat Mills, John Wagner, Bryan Talbot, Kevin O'Neill, David Lloyd.

I'm sure that's not a complete list.  Hunt Emerson drew at least one entry (about Ronald Reagan?).  I can only vaguely remember the imagery but I can remember his 'O's with dots in them...

Curse that fine print!

There should be a GI Doll named Tuesday Blues.
