Yay! The Dredd movie is happening this year!

I remember buying the first few 2000 AD annuals the hard way, by paying the newsagent in Ballybrack 10p each week until the annual was paid off. That was how most of us did it in those days, except for one of my best friends whose parents were (relatively) wealthy: he got the annuals as soon as they appeared, and then spent the new few months spoiling the stories for us.

He always got tons of really cool presents - anything he asked for - and he'd laugh at the rest of us when we told him what we'd received. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure why I considered him to be such a good friend!

Yay! We watched it - and it was good! Lots of Vicky - who came across really, really well - but not so much of Rich, which is a shame (but he was wearing a Hi-Ex t-shirt at one point, featuring the logo I designed!).

Is it true that the treehouse will be the venue for the next Hi-Ex?

That was the location of the last Carroll family holiday, in 1983... I was seventeen. The only thing I remember about the place was that they had a good collection of arcade machines, which consumed about 90% of my waking hours... It'd be interesting to go back.

Of course, it's not really that far from Holyhead. I could just take the ferry for a day-trip...

So, the official 35th anniversary celebrations won't be held on the 35th anniversary, then? Shame!

I'd love to go to the SFX weekender, but we're already going to the Cardiff Comic Expo (25th & 26th February - the actual 35th anniversary of the first prog!) and Hi-Ex (31st March - 1st April), and three trips across the Irish Sea in two months is not really feasible... Unless someone wants to pay our travel and accommodation costs!

The Dredd keyring is nice, and I'll certainly be getting one or two, but it's a shame that they didn't use the more detailed design Wake and I came up with for the Termight badges.
