Ordered! Thanks for the tip

Amazon pricing is weird: "4 used from £32.36, 12 New from £19.37"
Guess which one I went with (inc free postage)?

Will the 2000ad FCBD feature any original material?

A new Al Ewing Dredd story has been confirmed.

Well that's chuffing excellent news. I'm surprised though - I thought Marvel writers were usually tied to exclusive contracts (which is why I thought Al was Ken Niemand for so long)

A convoluted google trail led me to this gem : https://youtu.be/xwPVk72GLfY

A 7 minute animated map of the British Isles showing who ruled which bits, every year from 43ce to 2016 - The 9th century was particularly fun

I must admit I haven't had the energy to join in with the frenzy of voting recently (though props to Colin & broodblik for running them, I'm an interested lurker), I couldn't ignore Dredd epics. so hard but my list is:

1. Necropolis
2. Apocalypse War
3. Day of Chaos
Frankly I juggled those three so much they could have ended up in any order - a trinity of world-changing awesomeness

4. The Cursed Earth
5. The Judge Child
6. The Day the Law Died
Because these were the thrills that blew my tiny little mind and branded DREDD onto my brain forever

7. Tour of Duty
8. Block Mania
9. Tale of the Dead Man
Because these epics-in-their-own-right turned out to be just the build-up to my top three

10. Graveyard Shift
11. The Pit
12. Sector House
Justice Dept in all it's multi-character glory. Dredd as a cop rather than a world-saviour

And a final three based on instinctive feels as I scan that list...

13. Origins. Bollox, this should be higher, got too into the trilogy thing
14. Oz - another warm fuzzy nostalgia vote
15. Emphatically Evil - can't omit PJ!

...but I want to pick more! At first I thought 15 was a chore, but Now I've gone all Slaine - I didn't think it too many!

We are of one mind!  Not much of a mind, mind, but definitely singular.
my mind to your mind
my thoughts to your thoughts...

Yeah the casting really is terrific all round, and watching it so close after the original cast movies has made me really appreciate what a good job Karl Urban does of Bones in particular.

It was positively uncanny!

Star Trek 2009 was pretty good. I think they should have left it there.

Into Darkness was shite.

Beyond was an above average Sci fi adventure film but a rubbish Star Trek film. All that Beasty Boys stuff really made me cringe.

How so? I thought it felt more Star Trekky than ever - of course they had to ramp the threat up to Federation-threatening levels, but the basic 'investigate planet/oh no disaster/find a clever way to beat it' formula is pure ST. And as you said, its a well-made sci-fi film in it's own right. And is it the whole maguffin you didn't like or just the choice of music? I'll concede it was semi cringey.

EDIT - Tords posted while I was typing, but yeah, what he said

I'm halfway through that - It is better than the first season, it seems to hang together a bit more coherently rather then jumping about so much. It also works so much better as a TV series than a comic - I bought the first trade and was completely underwhelmed by the comic version, but this is a lot of fun. I love the MiB/X-files/Vector 13 type guy and Aiden Gallagher does a great job of portraying a 58 year old teenager. Ellen Page's fivehead is a bit distracting though.

The music choices are usually good, the only one that dropped like a clanger was "Golden Brown" over Diego and Lila's love scene. *cringe*

I'd also started Futureman, but I've had to pause that one as my brain can't follow two time-travel-to-the-sixties shows at the same time.

Working in medical insurance we have to ask people about their symptoms, what treatment they're having and with which doctor or hospital. My favourite conversation was:

- My GP's referred me for an ultrasound scan
- That's fine - where will the scan be taking place?
- My Testicles. (long pause) errrm... London Bridge Hospital.

Others I've heard about include:
- My wife's been referred to a gynaecologist
- What are her symptoms?
- She has a lump on her lobelia

And the famous call when someone got very angry that we wouldn't fund an ultrasound scan for his dog "I've got my policy document here and it clearly states you cover PET scans!"

Sorry Dan, but this is unacceptable. You simply don't have time to be ill, we need you to keep churning out top-class thrills at an unbelievable rate for the prog and meg. Back to work that droid!
