There are one or two self-contained vignettes in Book II - the tale of the Glyph, for instance.

But would you care about the characters if you didn't know why halo was on that spaceliner? An episodic story of one character (a picaresque narrative, to get all Eng.Lit on yo' asses) will always have nice episodes that seem self contained, but the whole point is to portray how the ongoing travels and adventures change the central character.

Actually, nah, that's bollox. Halo Jones was of such quality that any particular segment is worth reprinting whenever possible!

Seems like there's loads of good old stuff in there - as the first 1000 progs or so are still in my mum's loft (no room in my flat!) I've rarely had a chance to re-read some of these, so I may be tempted. Doesn't say which bits of Halo Jones are included, but it's not  story that lends itself to excerpts IMHO, you ned the ongoing context thingy.

And Robohunter sucked big time after Verdus.

Can't find it now. Perhaps Mike will repost?

Your wish is my command... (mostly).

Arrgh! Can't re-link to the images because they're over 700 pixels wide, but here's the original thread:

I wasn't around at the time of that thread, but I'm very impressed! Have you done any more of those 3D models recently Mike?

General / ULTIMATE ROBOT POLL FINAL
11 September, 2008, 07:57:21 PM
Sorry, almost forgot about this!

There were clear voting trends amongst those who like their robots cool and hard, and so picked pineapples and mongrol; and those who prefer a comedy robot, and went for the stogie-sewerdroid combo. Very few split the mix.

RESULTS:
RO JAWS beats Mongrol - 7-5

However, the Pineapples/Stogie bout was a dead heat, so I've been forced to use my casting vote. It's gotta be JOE PINEAPPLES - the coolest assassin ever, and a droid that's comfortable with his sexuality. And besides, thee accent was a leetle annoyeeng after a while, No?

Which sets up an interesting final -
 ROJAWS   vs  JOE PINEAPPLES

Quote from: "IndigoPrime"(And, yeah, I know Finn was originally from Crisis, but by the time he ended up in 2000 AD, he was a '90s Sláine, but without any of the intrigue.)

I have warm memories of the original Crisis version (was the story called Third World War, or am i mixing up the title of another Crisis story?), though some of the crusty politics may seem rather dated if it were reprinted now. The 2000ad version was a serious case of dead horse flogging, and is better forgotten.

I never really got the clown, but the art made an impression.

We've waited 30 years for a fully working tooth-o-pedia, so I'm happy to wait a wee while longer. I'd rather it was done well than quickly. The summer disappearing act was a diferent matter. Would it have ben impossible to e-mail active boarders to let them know? (ignore me if this has been hashed out elsewhere) At the time, I was abroad for a month and I thought maybe Rebellion had gone bust and had all kinds of dark imaginings such as the prog folding for good. Eventually i found the refugee community at 2000adreview though, and all was well!

Prog / Re: Prog 1603 - Hammer Time!

Quote from: "TheEdge"PAGE 2 Damage Report....... ITS In small Writing under the disclaimer,

I find this really annoying! I wish I could ignore it, but every prog, there I am squinting and gurning away to read some teeny-tiny gossip and cliquey in jokes that surely only mean something to a handful of people (who no doubt find it hilarious). No offense if you're one of the blessed inner circle!

I guess it's just that empty feeling when you get to the end of the prog and have even read the letters (unless you're Buttonman who I imagine works in reverse!) and you flick back desperately seeking some crumb of thrill-power that you've overlooked. You read Tharg's burblings and then all that's left.....

Well at least it doesn't take up any room and don't do no harm. I just wish I'd never noticed the damn thing in the first place!

Off Topic / Re: End Of the World

If anyone gave it a moment's serious thought, it will be apparent that what will obviously happen on Wednesday is that a hole will be punched through to an alternate Earth.

From Thursday onwards, I would advise everybody to be on the lookout for their evil counterparts, who will probably have goatee beards or dress like dominatrices. If you already have a goatee beard or dress like a dominatrix, you're basically screwed.

If you have a goatee beard AND dress like a dominatrix, get help.

The Democratic Dozen have voted and the results of the quarters are as follows:

RO-JAWS v Dr FEELYGOOD
The doctor is struck off as scum rises to the top by a narrow margin - RO-JAWS WINS (7-5)

TOBY v MONGROL
Mongrol smush! The hound is put down - MONGROL WINS (8-4)

JOE PINEAPPLES v WALTER the WOBOT
No contest. N&V. A1. Cwipes! PINEAPPLES WINS (10-2)

HAMMERSTEIN v CARLOS SANCHEZ ROBOSTOGIE
In the shock upset of the contest, the mighty Mk III War Droid is defeated by a small hispanic cigar! STOGIE WINS (7-5)

So who goes through to the final....you decide:

RO-JAWS v MONGROL
JOE PINEAPPLES v STOGIE

General / ULTIMATE ROBOT POLL - THE QUARTER-FINALS
02 September, 2008, 10:13:42 PM
Thanks to one and all for some great robo-nostalgia there. Many I'd forgotten, several I feel a need to revisit sometime soon!  :geek:

Nobody cared to mention Armoured Gideon, Metalzoic or Maniac 5; and of the ABC warriors, nobody voted for Steelhorn, Morrigun, Happy Shrapnel or Blackblood.

I have put through to the quarter-finals all the droids that received more than one vote. The total was actually nine, so one had to be excluded to make things work. After careful deliberation, I decided that Torque-Armada, whilst being admittedly very cool, is the least robot-like - It's a manned seige engine that happens to move on its own, rather than a robot. Sorry to Cosh & Tordelback there!

So, the pairings, for no particular reason:

RO-JAWS vs DR FEELYGOOD
TOBY vs MONGROL
JOE PINEAPPLES vs WALTER
HAMMERSTEIN vs CARLOS SANCHEZ ROBOSTOGIE

Honourable mention to King Trout's suggestion of Tom Frame, lettring droid supreme. to whom I'll dedicate this poll!

VOTE NOW!!!!
