Prog / Re: Prog 2021 - Weapon of Master Destruction!
05 March, 2017, 11:59:06 AM
I'ver actually found that my prog arrives on a Staurday more often now than it used to in the past - as Jim says, the progs leave the warehouse and go into the post at exactly the same time they used to - the rest is down to the postal service.

I hadn't realised just how ubiquitous Dan Abnett is at the moment - 2 in the priog and one in the Meg - I can't remember anyone having so many stories running together since the eraly days when Wagner, Mills & Grant wrote evrything (albeit under several pseudonyms). Normally this would worry me (I get antsy if Pat has more than one strip on the go at once) but as Sin/Dex, Kimngdom and Lawless are just so drokking awesome, I'm happy.

Top prog - this current fine run of quality shows no signs of abating. Adverts include new trades for The Order and KIngdom, plus a teaser for a new MC1 table-top game
She pretended to be ignorant at first, but when she thought that he'd been incapacitated, she began showing off her skills - the clues in the crossword should've tipped her off that her plan was already known to the victim
yeah, as soon as a mod decides you're not some kind of automated spambot or evil troll, they'll fully actiivate you.

If this is taking a while, give 'em a bump by posting a request here: https://forums.2000adonline.com/index.php?topic=43559.0

The 40th event wa a blast wasn't it? If I bumped into you or drunkenly slurred my opinions about Halo Jones at some point, then I apologise!

Those BBC buggers confused me on catch up - When i saw this was ep3 I thought I'd missed one, but they were counting the Xmas one, as part of the series.

I'm absiolutley loving this, the best thing on telly for years. They all have the odd logical flaw if you think about  them too much:
The Bill:
why would he join the consptracy rather than calling the police? He's alrteady loaded, and they've got no leverage on him
The sphinx:
as she is a crossword expert, why is she so eadilly led clue by clue? She has the grid and the list of cluues, but doesn't twig asphyxiation, myistery guest or pufferfish
Minor nitpicking though - I bloody love this series

Given this outpouring of love for "god's own county" (citation needed) maybe we can resurect the Nort meet-up?

We've always been shamed by our Souther brethren with numbers atending, but I'd be willing to cross the Pennines if we could get a few folk together in Shefield or Leeds. If any of you poor white-rosers fancy a trip to Mega-City Manc, I'd be happy to act as host!

You've never watched Breaking Bad? You lucky lad - you're in for a real treat!

I have the first 4 seasons on DVD - but as soon as I own something and I know I can watch it anytime, current stuff pushes it off my agenda and I never get round to it.

I taped American Beauty on VCR on it's TV debut - the format subsequently became obsolete and I've still never seen that movie!

The glazed expression give tribute to the bottomless red wine. pizza - check the chilies on that Divalo!

For those avid Buttonman-meal followers who find this variation in expression and head angle disturbing or unsettling, I fear it may be time to repost my handy guide:

These are all reasons why I stand by my decision to remember it as being good and NEVER WATCH IT AGAIN!

Besides, considering I've never watched Deadwood, Breaking Bad or 75% of Game of Thrones, I've got more than enough to catch up on!

Film & TV / Re: The 13th Doctor

I really hope it's not Kris Marshall - he's a decent enough actor, but it would take some genius writing to make him interesting or memorable as the doctor.

I've never had a problem with a black or asian actor - skin colour should be no more relevant than hair colour. A gender swap would be more of a stretch, but they've established "in-universe" that it can happen with the Master. I'm still not sure though.

Someone mentioned Tilda Swinton - I very much doubt that she'd do it, but I'd be behind her 100% if she did, she's got that androgynous weirdness down perfectly  (she was the only good thing in that awful Constantine movie)

Eurgh, and that terrible "Irish" town as well. Awful. At least the TNG holodeck episodes gave us Moriarty.

Oh god, I think I'd blocked the Irish town from my memory

Damn You!

I dread ever doing a re-watch of Voyager as I may be disappointed. I really enjoyed it at the time, but I am painfully aware of it's many flaws especially:
Quote from: TordelBack on 03 March, 2017, 02:28:32 PM.... space-anomaly-is-really-living-creature (and the crew are amazed every single time) or everything-depends-upon-the-Doctor-but-he's-developed-a-new-amusing-quirk (it's possible I've already blocked out the Chakotay-is-an-Indian-in-Space ones all over again)
,... and ...
Quote from: TordelBack on 03 March, 2017, 02:28:32 PMTom Paris and Chakotay are as pitifully boring and planklike as they always were. Paris' sole interesting moment is unfortunately in Harry's alternate present where he's still a drunken ex-con, but bam, back to Paris Prime by the end of episode and snoozeville.
The only one I really hated at the time was Chakotay - the way he went from violent revolutionary to starfleet asshat in an instant, and the cod-spiritual native american BS.

The finale, unlike Enterprise, was fantastic. They got them home (they had to) with some cool time-travel gubbins thrown in, rather like the TNG finale (which is one of the few episode I re-watch quite often, the other being the original 2 part borg story)

If memory serves, the point where I lost faith in Voyager was the episode set entirely in Paris' 1950s pulp-sci fi holodeck program, when I decided they'd finally run out of ideas.

If your "complete" set includes the series after Denis Waterman left, I wouldn't bother with those - but the early ones are great. Keep that cockney rhyming slang dictionary to hand and let me know if you have ever seen a more wooden actor than Dave the barman.
