trois couleurs blanc. three colours white.
going through the trilogy again, one of the few pieces of high art that changed my life by making me question everything i thought and every way i was for others - this latter makes it ideal viewing (more than a quarter of a century on) during this year of all years.
white is as wonderful as i remember. and as appalling, and as moving, and as funny, and as important, and as sad, too. oh my.

Ashamed to say I haven't seen any of this trilogy. This must be rectified

Oh - I did not know it was a remake!

I find with Hollywood these days it's easier to assume it's a remake first, saves time in the long run ... plus tends to be fairly accurate ...
So many times I've seen a favourite movie in the schedules, only to be disappointed when it turns out to be the new one not the good one.

Fun With Dick & Jane - isn't. To be fair, I turned it off after about half an hour. It might have gotten really, really fun after that.

I'm guessing you mean the 2005 remake. The 1977 original with George Segal and Jane Fonda is a classic

After being rushed to hospital with acute alcohol-induced pancreatitis in 2001, I had to stop drinking altogether for a while. Horrible condition, felt like my insides were on fire from neck to groin, and 1 in 20 people just go into shock and die. The only treatment is to shut down the digestive system completely (nil by mouth) and manage the pain, so I had 3 weeks in hospital with a nutrient drip in one arm, and a drugs drip in the other.

It was impossible to get a consistent answer from the docs at the hospital about future drinking- advice from different consultants ranged from "a pint a day would be fine" to "you must never touch alcohol again". The brush with death (and the fact that someone I knew died of the same condition) scared me teetotal for two or three years, but I did some research myself and the advice is to 'avoid alcohol abuse'. interestingly, the pancreas and liver are self-regenerating organs and so can deal with binges, but my habit of 2-3 pints a day after work was not giving it any chance to recover, so it went on strike. At first I tried to continue going to my local and not drinking, but I soon realised the difference between actual friends and drinking buddies, and came to appreciate just how much shit people talk later in the evening. I gradually stopped going and don't see most of those people at all now.

After a couple, of years total abstinence, I allowed myself a few drinks at special occasions such as Christmas, but gradually the "occasions" became less special - Friday is a special occasion isn't it?

Nowadays I drink quite a lot when I do, but drink nothing for 5-6 days a week, and I've been fine. Getting shitfaced on a Friday has become a weekly treat rather than a daily habit.

Only 6 days? I'm part way through a 10 day isolation - my flat mate (a one-jabber) has come down with it. Felt a bit rough, runny nose, sore throat so went down the test centre and he's positive. He's fine, but we can't even go to the shops till Wednesday. Been self-testing every other day (it's too horrible to do daily) and so far my double-jab is winning the germ-war. Did my first online grocery shop and got a bit carried away, so I could withstand a siege. And an enforced 10 days of no work, comics, weed and netflix ain't too bad.

Little known fact : I used to live in Perth way back in the '80's.
Was run out of town..
Was told if I ever show my face or step foot in the place again unmentionable things would happen to my backside.
So it's a NO from me, think I'll try Shrewsbury instead.
Keep on Drokking !!.

Oh c'mon, now you HAVE to tell us what you did to rile the people of Perth.

To avoid any further monitor mishaps, you are advised to keep all liquid dispensing units far from your laptop / desktop when viewing this pic.   :)

There was an old video on YouTube (which I couldn't find last time I searched) of cats in a graveyard that was overgrown with catnip. It was like any top night out. As evening falls, they stroll up casually one by one and start enthusiastically snorting and monching the 'nip. After a while they're getting frisky, jumping about and chasing each other, generally 'aving it large. After that, things get a bit freaky, as they do, and they're lying on their backs, rolling their eyes, swatting imaginary prey, staggering about and just generally tripping balls. As dawn breaks, they're on full come-down mode, sprawled around the graves, sleeping it off. Bangin!

The Naked Gun 2&1⁄2: The Smell of Fear was my chosen tonic. Still a classic.

I adore those films, Airplane too of course - I saw the first Naked Gun film in France where it was called "Y'at-il un flic pour sauver La Reigne?" ... there is a logical reason for this, I promise!

Best journalism of the week. Reporting on the Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul boxing match in the Grauniad:

This is a great line-up of strips that bodes well for the next few weeks (though talking of Bode I presume Feral & Foe will be bowing out soon).

'Adios, Rowdy Yates': Great old-school knockabout stuff from the Weston brothers (what? oh) with some lovely touches like the dignitary taken out by the ricochet and Dredd's mangled respirator at the end. Would it be churlish to ask why Dredd thought he could survive the block's demolition? Probably.

Mechastopheles: Apart from his being generally brilliant, I've noticed that across all his strips, the Rennie droid really knows how to sell an opening instalment; and this is no exception, hurtling from the fantastic trio of imps, to the Broken Crowns, to a majestically rendered sea battle (Boo Cook was an inspired choice as replacement artist) and finally the titular mecha itself... and still finding a spare frame to fill in the backstory! Exquisite... absolutely exquisite.

Department K: I have to admit I didn't really pay this much attention on its Regened appearances, but I'm very much liking what I'm reading here. And let's face it, art courtesy of top-tier art droid Dan Cornwell is never gonna hold a strip back, is it. Although I don't think this is the first time the Staring Championships have been interrupted by a furry starfish...

Feral & Foe: One of the things I love about Dan Abnett's scripts is that even in a five-page instalment where not a great deal happens, there's still something worth reading in every frame. Just a little joke, or a turn of phrase, or something to give a character colour. They're never just treading water.

Chimpsky's Law: Freed of any need to crowbar Dredd into the story, this absolutely shines. Special mention to the gorgeous little tableaux of the run-down apartment interior on the third page.

I can honestly say that I'm really looking forward to the next instalments of all four back-up stories, and great as 2000 AD is, that's not always true. As the time-honoured phrase goes: good proggage.

no need to review this prog - couldn't have put it better for every strip
