I feel your pain having dealt with council/housing association repairs for the last three decades - last week our toilet inlet pipe sprung a leak so we had to turn off the water or the long suffering lady below us would get water dripping through her ceiling again (we've flooded her house twice already, once when she'd only just redecorated). If we needed water, we'd have to put a pot under the leak, do what we need quickly, then shut it off before the pot overflowed.

Called them on Friday but it's not an "emergency" so they said they'd try to come Monday and someone would call me back to confirm. No call (obvs), but my manager kindly sorted a day off on Monday. Rang at 8am to make sure they were coming and was told no - best they could do was Thursday. As I had the day off anyway, I went into town - soon as I get off the tram I get a text - "the plumber is on his way and will be with you shortly" - had to spend a tenner to get a taxi home and beg the plumber to wait when he called to say he was outside.

Quote from: Dash Decent on 27 September, 2023, 03:57:13 AMGood to see Derek Griffiths getting into the picture.

I saw him in Gogol's The Government Inspector at the Royal Exchange in the 80s - a surprisingly fine actor

The Flash. Distinctly average, but with fun bits - I let out a heartfelt 'oh for fuck's sake' at the Nic Cage cameo, but I was smiling at the same time.

Three conspiracy theorists walk into a bar. You're not telling me that's a coincidence

Colin MacNeil genuinely says "Jings" when surprised, I've witnessed it.

Quote from: Definitely Not Mister Pops on 06 September, 2023, 12:14:13 AMI'll see your daft saucer separation and raise you "Fully Functional", or the episode when they visit Planet of the Tit-Tapes, Wesley is put on trial for violating a shrubbery and Picard's response is "Tough shit Bev". Or every scene with Worf.

You forgot the Scottish ghost fucker

And they say educational standards are slipping.
Northing wrong with it. In my day it was wheeling in the big telly on a stand that would win over any class

Attempt #2 - taking no chances. I'm checked in, bag dropped and through security lickety split. It's over 2 hours to my flight. Time for a pint I think.

going on holiday today and missed my feckin flight. Every time I have followed the instruction to arrive 2 hours early, I've then had an hour and a half wait in departure lounge but due to problems with the baggage system the queue was immense and arriving an hour and a quarter early wasn't enough - I was still queuing for security when the gate closed. Back home now with an afternoon flight booked that has added another £150 to my trip.

success .. of a sort. Moved the file (an episode of Babylon 5) to idrive, found it on the ipad - took ages to download though with my shitty broadband speed. I'll have to take my laptop somewhere with better wifi and copy the rest.

Thanks for all the tips, moral support and of course, the cheese. Tread caerphilly now, don't cheddar tear, it will all brie fine, things are getting feta all the time.

the annoying thing is, I've got icloud drive on the laptop and it gets the photos off my phone no problem - I don't think there's a fault, I just can't work out how to do it.

tried bluetooth "the operation was not performed because the device has not been authenticated" - WTF does that mean?

tried several cables, including an official Apple one, no go. The USB port is regularly used. I've been suggested to download iTunes on the laptop but I dunno...

Could it be something as simple as changing one of the million and one settings? (when I tried to access my emails it just kept asking for my password but then did nothing, no explanation or error message - after two days fiddling, I found the appropriate setting was set to OFF)
