Tried to copy a whole folder full, then tried individual files - but when I first plug in the cable, the little charging symbol on the ipad lights up but then immediately goes out, sugggesting it's not accepting the connection at all.

Please give this poor old fella some technical help.

I just bought a new ipad but I can't transfer any files from my laptop - got comics and movies that I want to be able to access on the ipad. When I connect them (USB to charging port) I just get "cannot copy files. The device has stopped responding"

Any ideas?

(took me 2 days to find the partciular setting buried away that let me access my emails on it!)

Off Topic / Re: Stuff You’ll Never Read Again...

my shelves are groaning with books I'll never read again, but books are like pets .. you can't just ... get rid of them ...it's inhumane!  Look at them on my shelves, see how well-read I am, fondle them, remember them, but I'm physically incapable of dumping them.

I am grateful for my English degree that I ever read poetry and shakespeare at all - I've got a whole shelf of Byron, Keats, Owen etc, and I'm glad that the academic discipline forced me to read and understand them, but I'm never going to think "y'know what? I fancy a bit of Keats tonight"

Lord of the rings however is a book I can reread to infinity. I reread it for four consecutive summers in my teenage years, and 3 or 4 times since, and I know I'll do so again. Gave up on the Silamrilion when I was 15 however, and have no desire to revisit it.

Never read Ayn Rand and never want to - read enough about it to know that life's too short for that crap

Back to the map - Remind me: What's the Web and where was it mentioned?

Pre Summer 2023 Southern Contingent Gathering
The Spice of Life - Soho

Hello fellow drokkers!
Summer is basically here, so let's gather before we're all sat at airports for days on end.
The pub this time will be The Spice Of Life, so make sure to take note of the location. It looks like some of us popped in there 6 years ago, from my google maps notification, so it can't be that bad!
See you all for a good old natter over a drink or two...

Sadly, I'll  be on a Greek beach - maybe the next one

The forum can stand only so much controversy.

Well feck me.  Seems I have little to be thinking about these days.
Anyway I've been reading Oink! online; one of the rare 80s funny comics for kids that was actually funny.  Lots of death, blood, piss, shite and bums - that's what kids really wanted, unless that was just me.

Much of which was written by Charlie Brooker in one of his first jobs

Quote from: The Legendary Shark on 11 June, 2023, 07:23:18 PMWhich was the one that used to have a "disguise" on the back cover? I remember enjoying that so much that it became the first comic I ever collected. My Mum made me sell them to some swine at Southport Market who gave me virtually nowt for them, to teach me the value of money, I think. It seems to have induced the opposite effect.

Ah Krazy comic - I gave up The Beano so that I could start getting Krazy

By ignoring and excluding anyone who doesn't want to be on Facebook?

Quote from: Lawman of the Present on 02 June, 2023, 01:50:15 PMArt Stars 2023 has concluded, and since I'm not big on social media, I just wanted to take opportunity here to offer a congratulations to everyone who entered - there were some fantastic entries!

The third place runner up entry, 'Dirty Protest', was mine :) Absolutely delighted to have been selected, it was not expected given the overall calibre of entries.

Congrats to Brett and Alan for second and first place, superb entries both. And a massive thank you to Rebellion, Mike Molcher and Tharg for the recognition and the wonderful shipment of graphic novels!

Considering the last post was 3 years ago, I wasn't even aware that this was even still going. It seems if you're not willing to become a subject of the state of Facebookville (national motto: Privacy is not an option, join us in the sewer of hate), then 2000ad doesn't really give a fuck about you any more. It evolved from the wholesome amateur monthly art comp on this forum, and it was great fun then - a community producing stuff ranging from pro-quality art to crap jokes in MS Paint (with obligatory piss-stains - I'm looking at you Mr SW of Paisley). Rebellion seemed to have washed their hands of this place, even though it's heavily moderated, whilst the facebook groups just seem to be folks slagging off the comic.

Quote from: sheridan on 18 May, 2023, 02:34:40 PMp.s. regular (three or four times a year) Southern Contingent meetups occur at a central London pub - usually near Covent Garden.  We'll probably have to wait a few months until the next one.

Which we never hear about any more since Burdis left the forum. I really enjoyed the one I attended -  any chance you could flag 'em up here when they come around for folks who hate facebook?

I  chatted to so many people and have such a bad memory for names/faces that I have no idea if I spoke to Trooper McFad or Barrington Boots over the weekend (if it was in the bar I would have likely been with Eamon or Jim Campbell)

The Tharg cosplay was brilliant - I didn't see Judge Death or Blackblood, thanks for posting those. Nice collection of sketches - I am now also the proud owner of a Lew Stringer original  "Ming the Merciless drunk-shopping for Ferrero Roche in lingerie on a space-hopper", which has been added to Colin MacNeil's "Tank Girl riding a dragon on the moon" from a previous year.

I think I was slightly stitched up by Glenn Fabry and his missus - bought a copy of his new book Lot 13 (very good) and asked him to sign it. His partner said "Glenn, you could do a doodle as well" - and then charged me £35 for it (and it was literally a 30 second doodle that I hadn't asked for).

Great to  catch up with Eamonn, Jim Campbell, Burdis, Stacey and many others.

I'm sure I've missed meeting many boarders at Lawless cos I didn't recognise them - if you see a beardy bloke in specs with half his front teeth missing (broke my bridge), say hello

the bogie man kickstarter seems to be cracking on - I signed up as soon as I got the e-mail and it was already at £3200 out of £5000
