TIL Kate Bush did a delightfully silly reggae version of Rocket Man in 1991, complete with ukelele and Uilleann pipes

I do like Creep and Plagues of Necrpolis, but Mach 0, Mach 1 and Shok! easily swing my vote for MacManus. I hadn't realised he also co-wrote VCs with The Notorious GFD, but let's not dwell on 3000ad

Off Topic / Re: Pub Quiz Questions

you've probably done the quiz by now but I just remembered one of my favourites:

Q: What took place in Britain between the 3rd and 13th of September 1752?
A:
absolutely nothing as these dates don't exist - they were skipped when we changed from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar. Trivia follow up - England took a lot longer longer than most of Europe, but Russia didn't switch until 1918 and Greece until 1923 - by which time they had to lose 13 days rather than 11 to catch up.
nice find, not seen that before.

Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?
28 April, 2020, 06:16:38 AM
I'm reading through my Ultimate Marvel books start to finish - the tone shifts quite a lot and there are some bad continuity glitches along the way, but I loved this series. The original Ultimates books by Bendis are great, and Ultimate Human (Hulk/Iron Man) by Warren Ellis is superb. Ultimate Iron Man by Orson Scott Card is a great piece of sci-fi, even though everything it established about Tony Stark is instantly forgotten in the other books. I've just gotten past the death of Spiderman so far (I'm not crying, you're crying *sniff*) I also liked the way that the ending of the series was tied into the ending of the whole Marvel multiverse.

I've attended a Martha Tilston livestreamed gig from her living room, and spent much of tonight dipping in and out of Moovin.in, a live DJ fest as it looks like Moovin festival won't be happening this year. Krafty Kuts was fucking excellent

Books & Comics / Re: Favourite Asterix Book
26 April, 2020, 03:12:04 AM
Probably a heretical view on this thread, but I really wish I could like Asterix like you guys do. I can appreciate and respect it as an adult, but I have no affection for it and as a kid it left me cold. Even today, the sight of Asterix books in a comic shop viscerally takes me back to crappy school libraries where they were the only comics that were approved of by the teachers. Reading Action and 2000ad was precisely a reaction against stuff like Asterix ... TinTin also falls under this curse and is forever ruined for me.

Could it be bots?

Unlikely surely. why? Does Putin need to know that two long-departed 2000ad fans failed to instigate a discussion of Bloodstock '06?

I've done it myself - googled some random obscure topic and ended up on a forum discussion from 15 years ago that I really wish was current as I want to join in.
