The Sopranoes is classic televison but I'm going to buy something so scandalous even the strong will faint at my purchase and an angry mob of peasents with torches will gather outside my room to demand righteous vengence on the heathen. Yes you've sussed it.

Difficult, very difficult. So I say wait till CGI get's cheaper.

No star tantrums, no huge fee's or ego boosting 'I must take off the helmet so the public can gaze upon my awesome visage' type of thing.  Just DREDD.

Hail the pixels I say !

Quote from: "IAMTHESYSTEM"I must admit I can't really think of an actor to play DREDD.

There is, and has only ever been, one actor worthy of the role, and that is his majesty CLINT! I've always thought of Dredd (in terms of voice and attitude) as Dirty Harry. He'd be perfect in a film of the current Dredd continuity - an old guy passing on the reins to new clones (though where you'd get a young Clint clone to play Rico...)

sadly, he'd never do it.

You never know dandontdare. You never know!

Would a CGI DREDD be preferable to an actor with chin extension?

I must admit I can't really think of an actor to play DREDD. Hugh Jackman maybe? The Rock ? Timmy Mallet ? Suggestions anyone.

Course a fully CGI 'd DREDD woud cost the Earth so it's probably too expensive at the moment. The Judge Dredd character in Rebellions computer game was based on Greg Staples rendering of J.D but Carlos Ezquerra seems to be the choice here.

Who to direct? Spielberg? Tarantino? Tweak72?

Aye, it was perhaps a ramble to far from the original DREDD set up. Must admit I've been watching quite a few documentaries recently the one about the allies in WW2 for instance. Must have filtered into the sub concious.

Still I think it's difficult to make DREDD without some explanation how the Judges got into power while democracy failed.

What age group would you try and target ? 'Batman Begins' is a pretty good film that appealed to the cinema going public but DREDD seems to have more adult themes to it that must surely put it at a 15 certificate. Would you sacrifice the ultra violence to get the film made and seen by the widest audience possible?

The trouble with DREDD as a movie is that there is almost too much choice for a storyline. Which story would have the most audience appeal is the $64 million dollar question that any creative team or commissioning Producers would ask themselves and already here on the forums there's differing opinions as too how 'realistic' DREDD should be.
Some want to eliminate the more fantastical elements of DREDD's universe, Psi-powers, Judge Death etc which in effect gives you a suped up Robo-Cop type scenario. So here's my pitch on that.

Say Drug cartel infiltration of the State authorities renders the Justice system so useless that only a new, near incorruptable Judge force is needed to combat the suffocating grip of Organized crime has on society. Not only are the Judges less corruptable, faster with superior firepower but have been genetically engineered to survive battle wounds that would kill most ordinary citizens. It pitches the Judges against there corrupt, fellow officers, the beuracrats and politicians who resent any change plus the street gangs and heavily armed Drug Cartels in an all out war for supremacy-and we all know who wins in the end!

I think that the only way the Judge system could come to power in America is either some absolute emergency -accelarating global warming bringing about enviromental disaster or the people VOTE the Judges in like they did Mr Hitler and his less than  charming Nazi Party a brutal satire on 'Democracy'. What if people found democracy a burden and believed in a viable alternative ?  Would a slow, but sure democratic Justice system begin to fail against a more aggressive, pro-active  Judge force that elimanated problems before they became problems? Getting a bit like Dirty Harry 3 but  I saw a documentary on Venezuala about extra judicial killings by the authorites and Venezuala is a democracy yet the killings had the quiet approval of a large section of society.

Trouble is the whole Judge Fargo, Nuclear war and even the Cursed Earth etc scenario has to go as the reasons for the Judges coming into being are completly different in my sketchy rough. How did the Judges become so powerful would be the central question for me? Like the people of Venezuala (and I include my own wicked self in this) a sizable section of our own society could live quite comfortably with the thought that the State would kill to protect them even if the methods and justicfications given were dubious. How far down the line do you take that ?
