VLC is what you want - that'll handle most things. Also, you may want flip4mac.

I'm on the works with Virgin: broadband, telly, mobile - and the mobile is a brilliant deal (£10 a month for 300 minutes of chat, which rolls over if you don't use them to a maximum of 600minutes).

I'm not too fussed about Sky One, I haven't watched it in yonks (when you've a 2 year old you'll find your television consumption will be somewhat limited...) but the Video on Demand is fantastic - s'pity it's mostly beeb content, but if I ever miss a show I can just watch it again without bothering bittorrent (and once my V+ box arrives it'll be even cooler...)

Well that was great - I even enjoyed the 'our future is also our past' time twister twist, I think because it was spread between the first and last episodes and I'd forgotten about it. Like the bitch Helen turning out to have an affair with handsome crackshot thingymummy (for some reason I only know Helen's name, all the other characters I know their look/trait but not their actual name) and then wiping husbands nose in it was great. Was delighted and surprised by Army guys death and glam civil servants disappearance (although, seriously, that's the only thing that's changed?). Looking forward to the next series.

Last show on saturday; in honour of this sad fact I propose that everyone watches with the heating turned up and in their skimpies.

And let's invent a drinking game:

Every time scots man says HELEN we have a drink.

Every time hunky assistant guy appears to be an expert at something that he should never know how to do (what? he's a crack shot?) we take a drink.

Every time nerdy student guy looks wistfully at hannah we have a drink.

Let's all get drunk! yay!

I think all the script writers are conniving ways of getting hannah into her knickers - leaving them very little time to sort out the other large plot holes. But I agree with their priorities.

Si, If Fraz wants to fling me over a hi-res PDF poster/cover thing I can probably get it printed (gratis) and drop it in to Forbidden Planet in Belfast - it'll be A3 (might be able to wangle a couple of them) but ... how's that sound? (And if you want to whing me over a bunch of pages that I can print in glorious mono-o-vision I can print those out as a preview for them)

Proper coca cola (not that diet stuff) + chunk of vanilla ice cream in a big glass. The cola fizz reacts with the ice cream to create a frothy coke float. (put your ice cream in first...)

Help! / Re: Help me buy a laptop
12 February, 2007, 11:27:56 PM
A mac is a really good option - having moved from a PC to a Mac a few years ago I wouldn't want to go back (and, if you're really dead set on using windows the mac can boot into it or run it within a window).

You can wave goodbye to anti virus software and spyware ... come to the mac side...

Course if you're really certain you want a PC I'd just go for the cheapest one you can find - even the moderately expensive PC laptop is a horrible plastic brick.

I really enjoyed that - more so than Torchwood - it weirdly it seemed less childish than torchwood (which had an adoloscent need to bang on about sex and snogging all the bloody time). By rights by expectations should have been low for the show but I was looking forward to it and looney bits aside (really? you'll let the prof dander through the anomaly with one soldier used to desert warfare and ... hang on... why do people keep saying it's a desert, it isn't... anyways...)

Course could be I've always been a sucker for Dinosaurs and next weeks looks fab (though the centipede reminds of the centipede in James and the Giant Peach)
