Hmm... when you say "afgannies" I presume you mean "those people responsible" rather than all of those people who live in afghanistan?

I get a subscription, and even the covers that aren't remotly dodgy look like specially imported hard core porn when they're in their envelopes with the subscriber label.

I like they way you said "let's not get ahead of ourselves" and then outlined a considerable amount of thought that has obviously been applied in that direction.

I haven't read his screenplays, but I hear he does a great future shock with ironic twist.

Heh. Wouldn't it be ironic if it turned out that YOU were scojo? haha. That'd be funny, but, of course, totally absurd.

It's a pity that nice fella scojo never managed to convince Rebellion to use his script.

In reply to Someone who was Spur:
"To get back to the original post. Don't you think the current Rogue and Stront lack urgency? All right, I know they're both good fun and that in the grand scheme it doesn't really matter, but we *know* Rogue finds the Traitor General. Equally we *know* Bubba kills Wulf and then Jonny gets spiked by a big horrid spiky thing. "

"This goes contrary to The VCs of course, which progresses the legacy well.

"So, without even a hint of danger surrounding the current retro strips, you know nothing's going to change - and so a vital potent element is lost. To me it's all so 'yeah, whatever'...

"SD and Rogue are rock-solid franchises (and hence part-reason why Rebellion bought 2000AD) so they need to be visible. But to me, although the current strips are fun and well-executed, they're soul-less.

"And I wouldn't want that to happen to Dredd.

"M@

I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but Dredd is a rock-solid franchise and he's not going to die, so, in essence, that's already happened. Having said that, the won't stop me reading the strips or enjoying them. There's nothing to stop the Rogue strip from say introducing new characters (via new adventures) and then killing them, there's still a sense of urgency to that. And in fact, the Dylan Teague illustrated episode of Rogue introduced a "genetic flaw" in Rogues makeup which means his body is going to self-destruct. Now, obviously the character won't die, but now I'd like to know how this flaw is resolved so it *won't* impact on what's gone before.

Knowing Gordon, though, Rogue will wake up and it'll all have been a dream. :P

Suggestions / Re: Measure the Future Shock stack...

Maybe we could get some sort of 'future-shock' street team together to go around the country leaving copies of slush-pile-future-shocks about into little minature piles and maybe, just maybe, Matt will stumble across one, think 'Hang on, what's this? Why, it's a story about Vampires - but SET IN THE FUTURE - that's genius'. And then publish it.

who's with me? Future-Shock-Street-Team Assemble!

I picture Mega-City 1 as being bright, plastic and sterile at the top and going down the levels to dimly lit, seedy and filled with life. It's a big place, so it's possible everyone's vision is right ;)

General / Re: DK2

I bought/read it, but have yet to RE-read it (which I did MANY times with DK - but then, I was younger then ;). Didn't like the colouring, wasn't keen on the artwork and the story didn't grab me so much. I'd wait for the (inevitable) collection.

(Oh yes, "news in the nude" is not without precedent (www.nakednews.com - rated 18) -- I don't think it's nudity for the sake of nudity, rather another swipe at the way the media glams up the news)

General / Re: A serious question to Rebelli...
18 December, 2001, 02:19:20 AM
While I can't speak for Rebellion, but given DCs recent stance on unsolicited submissions (they won't look at them any more) it's likely most companies will follow suit. (DC landed in trouble because they were sent an unsolicited idea which wasn't used, then, a few years later the idea turned up in a graphic novel. I'm sure this IS coincidence -- they idea was fairly generic - What if Superman was rocketed to Krypton from Earth! - so it's possible that more than one person would've come up with this.)

Most movie companies will only look at unsolicited submissions via an agent and since agents are sharks (frequently conning poor dumb sods into thinking they're literally minutes away from selling their script) I wouldn't even bother trying. Work begits work. You generally need to have some sort of reputation (preferably a good one) before most companies will even entertain the notion of your scripts.

Sounds like an interesting idea. Possibly an internet based option as well, as I've found, many don't know that 2000AD is still around.

I'm never sure whether your responses are serious or not, scojo, so I'll err on the genuine side for this one.

Photocopied color artwork reproduces the color as gray it doesn't "remove" the colour. The original black and white will look radically different from photocopied colour pages.

"As far as the cow story is concerned, I will personally apologise to anyone that finds 50ft bovines insensitive. "

I have a friend who is a *30ft* bovine. Can you see where I'm going with this?

I got an e-mail yesterday from this friend who asked the following:

>they dont seem to be very sensitive do they?

I take it he was referring the height of *50-ft*

>Whats next? Someone burning a pile of potatoes?

I don't think he'll be reading this weeks dredd!
--------

So, if I understand you, he thought a story that was a about Mad Cow disease and it's cause was funny, but he was offended because a pile of potatoes being burned reminded him a little of foot and mouth?

hmm...
