What baffles me is that, yes Dredd and Anderson go forward in time to 2120, but aside from that, it's not really a time travel tale is it? Maybe they had bigger plans - or maybe they felt that ultimately, because whatever happened, Dredd would undo everything when he got back to his on time it meant then entire strip wouldn't have an impact.

City of the Damned holds a special place in my heart; it was teased in 2000AD JUST as I dropped the prog as a teenager (my heart breaking, but being the only comic reader in a school full of prison-inmates-in-training the peer pressure was too much)

I'm unsure how, but I'd managed to read bits of pieces of it between then and a few years ago, and while at a con (by this time, a proper comic artist and immune to all peer pressure) I'd was explaining to someone how great the Dredd clawing his way blind through hell scene was and I figured I should buy the collection to read - and man it just stood up for me.

Hi gang, I'll be at that-taking commissions up front (if you're interested) €60 for a head/shoulder water colour sketch piece on water colour paper.

(I'll also be at Dice, doing the same!)

I've always understood the 12A certificate to imply that you should watch it before deciding whether to let your kids watch it (esp since the origins of the 12A come from the original 13 certificate being lambasted by parents who wanted their kids to go and see the spider-man movie).

I loved it.

There were things I'd struggle with more than the name calling, specifically, for a bunch of people motivated by the terrible deaths of their friends and families, they don't seem particularly bothered about murdering all round them (even given the faceless/nameless canon fodder of the badguys, the nova corp - ostensibly good guys - get quite the slaughtering at the kyln).

(Pretty sure the language in Ghostbusters was worse, a film I saw on my own in the cinema when I was 14)

The 'whore' joke, opens up a whole bunch of problems - Drax has insulted all the team in various ways, and Gamora has been shown to be a strong and more than capable female character - and it's clear that Drax's comment is heavily disproved of, so I'm not going to lose sleep over it. (It's not like he calls her a whore and everyone high fives him and they all agree that Drax is dead-on, which would be a very different situation) (that said, If they'd found a different thing to say to Gamora that would have worked as well, I'd've been happy)

But those concerns aside (which I'll be honest, I'd not thought more than twice about until I read BPP's objections here), I thought it was surprisingly beautiful looking in places, laugh out loud funny in places, and I'll happily see it again.

I was recommended Use of Weapons, and I heartily endorse/pass on that recommendation.

Man, that's a great price (assuming it's even a half decent product).

BUT... My heart is now set on some sort of standalone cintiq/cintiq-alike. :(

All righty, folks...

A reminder for anyone attending this year's San Diego Comic-Con: the 2000AD Zarjaz Hour is taking place on Thursday at 14:00, in room 29A. Moderated by Mike Molcher, the panelists include Jock, Chris Burnham, Henry Flint and yours truly!

And don't forget to check out the 2000AD booth for lots of signings, and to pick up your Comic-Con exclusives!

-- Mike

I'll see you there. No wait. I won't. I'M NOT IN SAN DIEGO AND I HATE YOU ALL.

Hah, no I'm suggesting that every one is getting very excited about JJ Abrams Star Wars because he's teased an X wing, when we all got excited about his reinvention of Star Trek (and then disappointed by the second one) and I was the most excited a human being could be for the prequels on seeing their trailers, but... you know how that worked out.

So as exciting as this thing looks, I'm not gonna be charlie brown...
