I just feel with all the comic book films getting made now 2000 ad needs some attention since they've done some wicked stories and has some great characters apart from Judge Dredd of course.

The stories and characters are just something different from what people have seen unlike the typical super heroes.

Thats one of the reasons why i created the other thread on what other stories would make great films. Its a bit of an insult to 2000 ad just to say  that Judge Dredd is the only story that can be made into a film when there loads of other popular stories.

Give Dredd another chance but make some more stories which i know can find an audience. They need to give the other stories a chance and then maybe go back to Judge Dredd and hopefully there will be a good script and director that will please everyone and do really well with it.

This is info what I found on Wikipedia which is quite interesting.

Certain elements of the film were altered from the comic series, but it still did not find wide mainstream appeal. From the beginning the film was intended to receive a PG-13 rating. Due to excessive violence the MPAA refused to downgrade the initial R rating despite repeated appeals by the studio and Stallone. Mostly because of schedule constraints the film could not be re-cut and was released with an R rating

I know they wanted a PG-13 to get wider audience but wouldn't that have watered down the film and like I mentioned  before I'm not a hardcore fan,  I thought Judge Dredd was quite a violent comic strip. And that for me wouldn't have captured the character well.

Also Stallone has spoke about the film which seems a shame from what he says because it had the potential but unfortunately flopped. Well not sure if it flopped at the box-office but could have done so much better.

"I loved that property when I read it, because it took a genre that I love, what you could term the 'action morality film' and made it a bit more sophisticated. It had political overtones. It showed how if we don't curb the way we run our judicial system, the police may end up running our lives. It dealt with archaic governments; it dealt with cloning and all kinds of things that could happen in the future. It was also bigger than any film I've done in its physical stature and the way it was designed. All the people were dwarfed by the system and the architecture; it shows how insignficant human beings could be in the future. There's a lot of action in the movie and some great acting, too. It just wasn't balls to the wall.

But I do look back on Judge Dredd as a real missed opportunity. It seemed that lots of fans had a problem with Dredd removing his helmet, because he never does in the comic books. But for me it is more about wasting such great potential there was in that idea; just think of all the opportunities there were to do interesting stuff with the Cursed Earth scenes. It didn't live up to what it could have been. It probably should have been much more comic, really humorous, and fun. What I learned out of that experience was that we shouldn't have tried to make it Hamlet; it's more Hamlet and Eggs...".

Not sure if theres a topic on this already but this is what I think of it now.

I never really liked this film as a kid but now I think its pretty good. I think its because they don't make fun action films like this any more. I would rather watch this film than the new Batman films any day of the week.

I do know of 2000 ad comics and some of the stories they've done and there really cool but Im not a die hard Dredd fan so I dont know all of the concerns that the fans had at the time. Although I did hear that fans were unhappy with Judge removing his helmet because that's part of the character but I don't think the film went awful because of that. You saw him again with it on near the end and I couldn't see how he could wear his helmet the whole entire film. Having said that Judge would be better with it on for most of the film and I can understand the concerns with it

Anyway the look of the film was great and it had a good cast which I liked, a typical cast back then to play those characters. I think this film is very underrated. It was a fun entertaining ride with laughs along the way.

Reboots are ok but in my opinion the new Batman films are so boring. Instead of batman fighting crime is mostly character development and I found the old Batman films so much better and enjoyable because they didn't mess around and gave you what you wanted.
I could see them rebooting Judge Dredd but there probaly have too much character development and it will be boring. I would like to see a sequel and try and please the hardcore fans with Stallone returning as Dredd but I carnt see it happening, so Ill just settle with this film instead.

Books & Comics / Trying to find some issues?

These comics are quite old but hopefully you might know which issues there from. Basically Ill try and describe the story that I read in them. Not sure if all these were in the same issue or separate.

One is Finn.
Finn fights this big red dude in a jungle I take it he was an alien newt. Finn basically got beaten up bad. Then this sexy brunette came that had a magic ball or something that some recovered him.

Judge dredd
Dredd was in the wastelands fighting this guy. I carnt quite remember his name or why he was fighting him but it was a great fight. Loads of blood and it was really gritty fight. The guy had long brown hair wearing a brown trench coat he looked a bit like Gambit.

Lastly a Rouge Trooper story
They gone into some complex and had to open a door but one of the men got shot by some sentry gun or robot gun guarding the complex. They were all wearing space-suites.

It would great if you knew what issues these stories were from but I can understand if you carnt since there quite old.

I used to read these comics when I was younger. Basically I had a comic with short stories in and Im trying to remember the name of one.

It had a man with a metal helmet that had a fight with this big red dude in a jungle or island that beat the crap out of him. I think fought him in different demensions Then this sexy brunette came that had a magic ball or something that brought him come back to life.

There were other ones but it would be too diffult to describe.
