strange, works fine when I'm logged in but not when I'm not.  Be interesting to see what happens after I log out.

Health warning:  do not attempt to read that while under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or strange individuals in monks' outfits.
Alternatively do, see if it makes more sense!

curious, works fine now.  If I could be a**** I would try and figure out why but I can't so I won't.  Maybe a no-prize for anyone who can come up with an explanation - rational or otherwise.  In fact, can I put in a request for otherwise.

I do have one question though .... what is it about the constipated mathematician?
He works it out with a pencil.
ah thank you,  and ow!

Almost as bad as the Mathematician arrested on entry to the united states because he had in his luggage a ruler, protractor, compass, calculator and Maths textbook.  Charge:  attempting to bring into the country tools of Maths Instruction.

Not sure about Azrael at the moment.  Art is interesting and suits the tale quite nicely but I can't help remember the story of the Saint of Killers from DC's Preacher.  Maybe I need to sit down and give it a better reading, certainly will give it a chance and see how it goes.

Time Twister - nice little return and a nod to the old Moore Chronocops and the time twister in which Elizabeth is a time traveller (mid 300's )  methought.  Read like a real old school with lots of amusing details like Wells' time machine and the Beatle's Yellow submarine.

Dredd still evolving nicely.  re-reading in their entirety is going to be a pleasure, picking up all those details we keep missing!  Particularly enjoying Mr Higgins' artwork.

Zombo - Shaun of the Dead meets x-factor meets Ocean 11 with Flint on visuals,  what's not to like?

Damnation Station - still early days but still not grabbing me yet.  Davis' art works nicely and best line prize here:

"I don't even know how to use this thing."
"Put the barrel in your mouth, then pull the trigger.  easy."

Nerve Center worth a read for the flame baiting promise of the "comeback for Chronos Carnival, Return to Death Planet and Space Girls: The Reunion"  Surely worth a thread of its own: rumours most likely to inflame!  :D

Can I just offer my thanks to all who have contributed to the absolute insanity of this thread.  Having spent a day trying not to throttle irritating little scroats for their multiple offences ( starting in some cases with breathing ) I was in desperate need of some cheering up.  The sage advice offered here has quite literally reduced me to tears and helped to put reality in perspective far more effectively than any medication ( legal or otherwise ).  I therefore doff my cap to the comic genius that has been displayed here.

I do have one question though .... what is it about the constipated mathematician?

BTW is a parting insult obligatory or optional?

Oh forgot to mention (well I have been up since 5.30 with the little un) that there is also the Hi-Ex promo by Colin MacNeil in all its considerable glory on the back cover. Well done to all concerned it looks like its going to be a cracking event. Now if only Sheffield could draw that kinda crowd...

or even Bristol ...   Mind you, re-reading the late 400's and coming across the 'current masters' series of posters I was a little shocked to notice that Mr Kennedy's DOB is in the 1940's!  No wonder the esteemed gentleman is talking of retiring.

Nice to see I'm not the only one that is a little maudlin with regard to the current crop of stories mind.  The second of a Dredd two parter that would have been better suited to the meg as a one shot, ABC warriors going nowhere slowly, at least Dante and Stickleback made up for those.

A more sensible future shock as well but I have to admit to not being a great fan of Mr Dyer's artwork.  I suppose sharing space with D'israeli and Burns is a bit of a challenge.  For all the difficulty with Langley's artwork as well it really doesn't do him any favours either.  Perhaps that is why it just seems so flat.

Megazine / Re: MEG 294 : Law Vs Claw

The meg does seem to be on a steady upward trajectory at the moment.    A reasonable Morrison Dredd that poses some questions about how Dredd copes with the ambivalent nature of the role of law in the cursed earth.  For my money it was wrapped up a bit quicker than it could have been.  A bit more depth and tension might have made for a more interesting story.  Certainly this period of enforced exile is providing an opportunity to flesh out the CE which for my money has been a highly underused resource for a loooong time.

Byrne's twisted tale is his usual fare.  Not bad.  The ending did elicit a brief chuckle.

Tempest is finally growing on me.  Last series did not do much of anything, this one however has a bit more going for it.  Best line of the meg award goes here:  "permission to defecate, sir".  Elegantly put!

Had been a bit dubious about the last couple of lost cases and whether the series would deliver on its initial promise.  A better one but still not ticking all the boxes for me.  Maybe because the central conceit is so similar to that of the Dredd, sometimes the situation requires flexibility.  David Roach's artwork still tends to vary although not as badly as it did when he was drawing Anderson back in the day.

Still struggling to get excited about the reprint supplement [no, it is NOT a graphic novel!  ;) ] but would have to agree with the above comment that we have seen some better ones recently.  Since the rest is more worth the cover price than it has been for a while I am less inclined to grumble.

sorry colin, maybe 'trust' was the wrong word to use.  I just appreciated the gesture and felt that it would have been churlish to accept without doing something.  I should qualify that it is only within the context of this thread, and not something that I would expect people in general to adopt.  If people are passing on the same quantity as has been sent so far then the postage is not so much free as covered in the next dispatch.  Sorry if I am misrepresenting you in any way, that was the least of my intentions!

Can this be anything, or does everyone prefer comic/2000AD products?

I have a few Robert E. Howard paperbacks. I also have a couple of issues of Crossed (have to check the numbers), several Dark Horse and Marvel Conans, a few Dynamite Red Sonjas, Rawbone issue #1, Viking #1, a few Northlanders...I'll post a complete list later if this stuff appeals to anyone!

suppose having initiated this would give some duty of care for the provision of rules.  The only one is if someone takes up an offer they post up something else - no restrictions beyond that applied by common sense ( so nothing dodgy like Maggie Thatchers' memoirs or any writings by Tony Bliar ).  If there is an interest then no doubt the new offer will be taken up.  To be honest I am adopting the same level of trust as with Colin.  Did not ask for anything, even postage, so seems only fair that others get the same offer.

If all history is relative, can there be any such concept as 'being'?

M@

ah, now that would depend on whether you are a subscriber to Lacanian psychoanalysis or prefer a more Derridean anlysis.  Personally I would have to fall in with Foucault's discursive theories so as such 'being' would be a construction of lived experience combined with the influence of panopticon forces ...

... or maybe just not enough alchohol?

( reality is a state of mind brought on by lack of alchohol )

I have just found that i have about three each of all those annuals (I inherited 2 peoples collections) I am sourly tempted by the Megs but Mrs Tweak may very well disagree.

The Prog slog of sorting my comic collection is almost done however. My trades (not just 2000ad) alone take up one 2x2 EXPEDIT Shelving unit and one 4x2 EXPEDIT Bookcase :S

Know the feeling.  Some of these came from trying to fill gaps via ebay.  I've taken to a combination of filing cabinet, 'really useful boxes' and comic boxes ( sorry have to confess to a slight affection for some american titles, although they are waning in interest now ).  I assume that is 'sorely' although I suppose it could work both ways!

Anyhoo, the previously offered items have now been claimed and will shortly be winging their way to a new home.  Be interesting to see what gets offered in return.
