TBH post around here has been bizarre of late.  Tuesday it turned up around 7pm.  No idea what was happening there.

So mid-week and still no signs of the prog, much less the meg.

Easy enough to do in powerpoint.  A google search will turn up the method.

The only thing I don't like is when he looks at the camera during the transformation.

I know what you mean, Johnson bugs me senseless every time he does a presser ...

The question is though, when do you watch "In the Beginning"?

It's interesting to watch it right from the word go rather than further on down the line (so to speak).

One thing that has always bothered me with the DVD release of "The Gathering" is the music.  The original VHS release had a different soundtrack that I always felt worked better.  Would be nice to see it again to see if recollection still holds up.

Anyway, currently at "Voice in the Wilderness" ...

Dredd is most definitely a cracking idea this week.  What works best in Dredd, a thinly veiled attack on real world issues.

Assuming I'm not the only one that has only just had their subscriber prog?

We might as well discuss re-defining the value of zero, as to try to re-define a word that already has a (consensus-driven) meaning.

Ah well, that's an easy one ... after all zero can be contextual.  So it doesn't necessarily mean 'nothing' per se.

I am overdue for a Babylon 5 rewatch as well. Slightly nervous. Modern space opera is light years ahead, but I'm hoping the Londo and G'Kar double-act still reigns supreme to carry me through the show's deficiencies.

Ah, restarted with S1 recently and it has actually aged well (okay not the graphics but compared to the likes of Blakes 7 ...).  What strikes me is how pertinent some of the themes around racism, isolationism and so on still resonate so strongly.  When you think that this was back in the 90's and yet years later we are not just dealing with the same issues but someone has put them on performance enhancing drugs!   :o

Apparently Trump's campaign team have set up a 'voter fraud hotline' for people to pass on concerns.  Unfortunately it would appear that it has not had the response they hoped for ...

Probably just as well the X-Factor and Strictly finals weren't on this week!

Basically, Putin did to America what America does to South America, albeit via different methods.
His methods are - allegedly - to cause tension in as many disparate groups as possible, ...  if it's true this is some pretty intersectional thinking, and seems to be working out great for him.

I think this is quite a valid point.  I've always found Pratchett's quote from Good Omens about government conspiracy to be quite a good touchstone.

Is it a case of cunning manipulation or is it slowly simmering forces as populations grow and resources become scarcer?  Are we just seeing a handful of canny individuals surfing these waves for their own benefit (Farage, I'm looking at you here ...)?

Certainly the last few years have given the yanks food for thought but I think the same is true for us too.  Mind you it looks like Johnson's been pasted pretty well.  Seen their latest moniker for him?  "The Shapeshifter."  Priceless!

VOTING CLOSED

Henry Flint

is through to the second round.

We may need to wait on the legal challenges here .... if it was on legal votes we know who would have won ...

Another happy thought to throw in the mix ... Trump is up to his neck in debt off the back of this failed campaign.  How much was he banking on winning to keep him out of hock?  Looks like life is about to get really interesting for him, and not in a good way!

Do bear in mind that's like a parent in 2000 AD's early days saying "I wish this comic was like what I grew up with in the 1940s. Things change. Tastes change.

Ironically enough there is a historian of comics that makes that charge against the tooth in his book (wish I could remember his name and I'm sure it'll come to me or someone here will fill in the blanks).  He is incredibly disparaging of Mills' creation and what he sees as an abomination in the Dare reboot.

I'm currently working my way through the original Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers newspaper strip collections from Titan and Hermes.  If anything these show how far things have come in the 3/4 of a century or so of regular / high profile science fiction comic strips.  We comment on the racial insensitivity of early tooth at times but Buck Rogers takes it to a different level.  Some of the female figures in Gordon would have incensed Mary Whitehouse (and quite possibly did).

It's worth remembering the impetus behind Eagle, to create something to combat the tide of those 'horrible American things' polluting our children (just wait 'til you see what Kevin O'Neill can do with a pen!).  Dare is often the only strip remembered despite the fact that it was often just the front page.

The only thing I do find baffling is why Rebellion isn't doing more with Tammy/Jinty, Cor/Buster and much of the stable of material they've now got access to.  How many of us have kids that lapped up the meagre output so far and clamour for more?  Surely that's your 'entry drug'?  Not to mention the 'county lines' of aged comic officiando's ready and willing to push the product and then some  ("you like that?  Get a load of ...").
