General / Re: kids read comics shock...........

For a few years in my childhood I lived in a Spanish speaking country.  Unfortunately, I never learned Spanish.  Finding reading material was a real treat, so now my eyes are well trained in spotting comics in unlikely places, a skill I now put to good use at car boot sales.

There are a few years in my collection where I have about 30 comics dated Nov-Dec, and none for the rest of the year.  This was my Christmas package.

++And seriously - what DOES a weather balloon look like?++

Like a silver, cigar-shaped object capable of moving at apparently incredible speeds and changing direction instantaneously.

Funnily enough the other day I was having a waking fantasy where I went back in time and brought with methe secret of hygiene.  I also realised that I couldn't really tell them anything else, I just didn't know the very basics of technologies.  But I taught them to wash their hands.

I don't see what's wrong with her now.

And anyway, I might also fancy Marylin Monroe, but now she's a... let's not bother finishing that thought.

++I wouldn't mind it if they went back the the early premise of just visiting Earth history for a while (be it with a sci-fi twist)++

Gotto make sure it isn't just Quantum Leap.  Mind you, I like the idea of a duel across time between The Doctor and The Master (with Cybermen allies).  With The Master played by Tom Baker - he wants the part, after all.

Okay, what do dreams mean?  I'm not talking predictions, but what they say about your mental state.

Last night I dreamt I was shouting at my housemate, but halfway through my rant and rave I found my bellows were whistling out of my mouth - I had developed some sort of lisp.  When I calmed down, I found I had lost one of my canine teeth, and it happened to be in my hand.  It had broken off halfway down, and the piece in my hand was full of holes.  When I realised this I got a terrible pain through the rest of my teeth, as if all of a sudden another tooth was squeezing up from my jaw.  There not being enough space, I could feel and hear my teeth cracking and braking.  It actually hurt.

And then, like all good Terror Tales or Future Shocks, I woke up.  And my teeth were fine.  They are fine.  What does this mean?

It means I'm mental, doesn't it ;)

Do you really believe that the liberation of the Iraqi people was a motivation for the US neo-cons who pushed for this war?  These are people who support hideous governments right around the world.  It might have been a motivation behind the decision of some to support the war, indeed a noble motivation, but it stretches the imagination to suggest that it was a motivation of the decision makers.

And the WMD reason cannot be 'discarded' - it was the reason.

Thats wasn't my point.  I wasn't commenting on the rights or wrongs of the war.  I was pointing out the re-writing of history, the manipulation of information, that is at odds with the functioning of a democracy.

Or News Speak?

I just heard BBC News 24 state, 'the British and American governments have always maintained that the war in Iraq was fought to free the Iraqi people from the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein.'  Now, whatever you think about the war, this is a gross rewriting of history.  Isn't it?

++Anyone campaigning to bring back the half-page/half-advert pages is cordially invited to sod right off, however ;)++

Does that go for cut out readers' polls and newsagent request slips? :(

Yeah - forgot to add that last one.  Quite important, really, on reflection.
