I thought I knew it and that it meant a group of three people, normally in some sort of position of power.

That would be a triumvirate; like Julius Caesar, Mark Anthony and the other one.

Aww, I wish I already had a copy. I could trade it in for £0.25 worth of Amazon vouchers to spend on millions of items.  :(

Automated pricing is amusing.

Darn, that's a shame. I had hoped I could add it to my Christmas list.  :(

Books & Comics / Re: Aces Weekly from David Lloyd

I subbed last week so was able to read the whole of volume 1 in a single day, and I really enjoyed it. Return of the Human gripped me a lot more than I thought it would. I wouldn't mind seeing more of Lance McCoy and his world, and I'm very keen to read more of Progenitor.

There is a facility now to read all episodes of a series. In the bottom left of the screen you can select which episode to jump to.

I've just read the first issue of volume 2 and it's a good mix. I think Legion Zero and Catalyst Island will be the ones to watch, and I hope Santa Claus vs the Nazis lives up to the promise of its title. The two cat-related strips are intriguing and The Kept Woman already feels like a sinister J-horror film. I'm not sure if I like that, but unsettling is clearly the intended effect so it's doing its job well. Only three pages was frustrating though.

You have to wonder how on earth they are going to put together a graphic novel of this whole thing, given that the three strands developed simultaneously side-by-side.

I have a feeling that each story will read clearly on its own. I'd also really like to see a volume collecting them all, with each episode in order of publication. Call it Trifecta, put this week's excellent cover art on the front and it's money in the bank.

Oh yeah, great prog by the way.

SAUDADE:

I have a colleague who translates to and from Portugese as a sideline. I asked him about this word, and he explained it amounts to a feeling of nostalgia, but idealistically, almost like a belief in the good old days when they weren't necessarily that good. It was linked to a musical movement and, apparently, a political trend where people became disaffected with a dictatorship.

I've no idea if any of that's relevant but some of it struck a chord.

Having experienced the feeling of saudade over the last week it got me thinking. My pet theory is that it refers to Frank's feelings for his sanity.

Putting aside all the drama and the group hugs, the news is that Case Files 5 is out of print now but will be back in shops very soon? That's great, because one of my friends is dipping into the series and that's the one I recommended he get next.

Quote from: DrJomster on 24 November, 2012, 10:30:12 PMThat last panel on ABC was very nicely done.

That entire two page spread is wonderful. The dialogue flows well and the whole composition leads to that silhouette. For all my complaints about Mills' storytelling, it's worth it for moments like that. I think the series overall could have done with less waffle before the flashback but I'm pleased it finally answered the question none of the characters had needed to ask. I really need to get my hands on some early ABCs now so I can read what came before.

Also, what scrotnig said.

Would it be so bad to have mis-remembered the publication date of a comic over a quarter of a century old? It's not like the spines don't match or something.

All good stuff, thank you. From perusing my wants list it appears that I already own most of Blood Trails, and the other issues mentioned are already top priority for future purchase. Payday on Tuesday.  :D

Wasn't Regime Change the South-Am story with the
tanks and the mass graves
? I read that a few months ago and don't recall Kazan.

An excellent prog. I didn't even realise it was a wraparound cover until I got to the back. That was a nice bonus and confirmed the Disraeli droid as my favourite cover artist. He knocks it out of the park every single time.

I'm off to read it again now.

If there was ever an excuse to get that reprinted in a Meg Floppy... now would be a good time.

Qué? When was this published?

1986. "Chapters 1 to 6 appeared in a different form in Raw magazine between 1980 and 1985."

My copies of Alice in Sunderland and Grandeville each say "Copyright Bryan Talbot".
