Best prog I've ever read, despite the lack of letters and Droid Life. The highlight was the penultimate page of Shakara with that blue bolt coming like a, um... bolt from the blue. Thrilling stuff.

Mechanismo units have cropped up a fair few times over the years since Wilderlands, off the top of my head I can remember them appearing in Dead Ringer, Lawcon, Dredd/Aliens and Mandroid: Instrument of War.

ISTR in one story Dredd is shocked to see them being used in service, but is told that they're now being deployed in low-priority roles because of staff shortages after the second Robot War.

Thank you! I had a nerdgasm when I saw the silhouette and was going to ask here why Dredd didn't bat an eyelid.

Would you consider splitting them? Some of those 2000ads from the 1300 - 1400s and the later Megazines interest me but I have the rest.

I wish I hadn't mentioned B5 now! I'm about to start on series 5 and had to skim over the last couple of pages in case of accidental spoilers. 

Have any of you ever come close to giving up 2000AD or the Meg?

Yes, and I still reget it. I came back about three years ago when I'd ditched most of my debts and had a larger income. I don't think I read a single issue from my collection in that time, it was a painful reminder of what I was missing. Nevertheless I still kept them, despite the preposterous amount of space they took up in my tiny bedsit.

I think it was probably Origins that got me back into the habit of buying my prog every week. I have some from the first few months of that year but it's still a patchy part of my collection.

Okay - semi serious suggestion here:

If it were a question of getting the best actor for the role, and they were deficient in the chin department, but could deliver the lines SPOT ON...

Possibly a good idea, although these days it would be CGI. Look at Two Face in The Dark Knight and think how much easier a large chin is.

Jaws and The Usual Suspects, as quoted earlier. Also Fredo's death in The Godfather Part 2.

Interesting, but not emotionally engaging. Jackson got it spot on in that scene.

The end of It's a Wonderful Life always has me in tears, as does most of Casablanca.

It's not a film, but Delenn's "Only one human captain has ever survived battle with a Minbari Fleet. He is behind me. You are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else!" from Babylon 5 is extremely badass. Reading it now is giving me goosebumps.

I totally agree with all the Clint Eastwood loving here.  8)

Does knowing this is on the horizon dent my enthusiasm for the upcoming kick-ass Fraser-drawn extravaganza?  Hell no. 

I'll just have to try and avert my eyes at the crucial moment.

I always find that most forum rules boil down pretty neatly to: Don't be a dick. Those rules seem to cover most of the general types of dickery that can crop up.

Funny you should say that, this forum has one rule. Can you guess what it is?

Anybody reckon Munn is a Council plant placed to keep an eye on, or sabotage, Dredd? He looked so shifty when he returned, like a man who's been told to go back, grovel and finish the job.

I assumed that he just didn't have the balls to make the trip back on his own. (I say that like I would. As if !)

I remember some discussion a week or two ago about what a 'Mork Whisperer' is but I don't remember anyone having the answer. I was reading S/D Agency Files 3 on the way home today and there it was - "Can I borrow your mork?". It's a cross between a taun-taun and a chocobo!

Nice "ah!" moment for me in Shakara:  in light of Shakara's 'liquid soul', it's interesting that Cinnabar is the ore of Mercury.

Is it just me, or is a lot of the art on the last three pages of Kingdom literally sketchy, as if Elson didn't have time to tidy up his pencil work?

My god, it's like a US comic book - earth shattering events occur, regular characters killed off FOR THE FINAL EVER TIME and, within two issues, it's like it never happened - everyone's back from the dead, devestated cities are rebuilt, zombies are mulched back into the graveyard and babies stuffed back into wombs.

And the villain, so resoundingly trounced by our heroes, will nevertheless be back for THE BIGGEST FINAL MULTIVERSE CRISIS EVER in a few years.

I only have the start and end of Caballistic's INC, neither of which really explain what the hell is going on. Maybe when I've plugged the gaps in my collection I'll understand what all the fuss is about.

No more Rogue though, please. It was great, then (apparently) a bit rubbish. Then great, then muddled. I never really liked Tor Cyan or the 86ers, I couldn't see the point. Just let it go.
