I've always felt they had an idea that something was there - now this all depends on what theory one subscribes to: biological lifeform or bioengineered lifeform.

Plus, I never stated the company couldn;t have known about the Aliens - just that I didn't believe Aliens would have been running around Earth. Presumably the company could have met up with the critters on another world...

EDIT: And I've always felt that Aliens having already been on Earth somewhat cheapens Ripley's "We can't let them get to Earth" stance.

Bah! The Aliens should never have made it to Earth - or, for that matter, have been encountered at all before the events in the original Alien film. Grumble.
